We stayed at the Sun Palace so took the #2 bus to Market 28. If your goal is to find some good Mexican merchandise such as tequila glasses, souvenirs, hammocks, etc and enjoy haggling for prices; then this is the place to go. Getting around can be a bit confusing as everything looks the same. My wife and I got... more

Where to start.......first, it is a pretty long haul to get out there. Once you do get there you are hounded by shady looking guys who are all over you like white on rice as soon as you step out of the taxi wanting to power sell you and promising prices "lower than Wal-Mart", yes that is a direct quote... more

Went to the Market 28 today and was just as anticipated. If you like mall shopping, prices posted and laid back sales people, this place probably isn’t for you. Took a cab from Excellence Resort in Playa De Mujeres which ran 15. US each way. Typical local shopping and haggling with everything from jewelry to hand crafted items with several... more

DO NOT USE A CREDIT CARD HERE!!! Don't go here at all! This is a very dangerous place! The vendors swarmed like flies and were very very aggressive. I feared for my safety. I attempted to make a $200 purchase. My card was taken around the corner and a charge of $600 was charged to my account!! I was told... more

Ok, so after hearing everyone saying 'go to market 28, its so much cheaper' - we did. Well, we didn't realize that those same people were probably going to the REAL expensive places to compare it to. Here goes my suggestion: Go to the Mexican Outlet (the yellow stores). There are a few of them on the strip - my... more

July 6, 2008 I just arrived back from Cancun with my daughter, we absolutely loved shopping at Mercado 28. It was exactly what I thought it would be like. You have to haggle of course with the people, but you will get a good price for the things you want if you are smart and don't buy the first thing... more

The market is not worth the visit. My husband and I went there on our trip to Cancun. One vendor wanted to charge us $35 U.S. for a small bottle of vanilla - and when we finally bargained down ($5 U.S.), we still paid more than in the store - which we found out later was $3.50 U.S. A silver... more

Market 28 was pretty easy to get to from the hotel zone via bus. There are no signs to the market when exiting the bus so ask the driver. And...on the way back, you need to get to Walmart and it's difficult crossing the streets so be careful. I think it was worth the trip overall..but the shopping experience was... more

I agree with what most people say about the market. It seems that Mercado 28 has the benefit of many tourists which tend to drive the prices up. It is true that you're not missing much in the way of shopping, however there is some excellent seafood available at very affordable prices. I can't remember the name, but in the... more
