You have to ask yourself what you want in a hotel. The Grand Royal Lagoon is not in the hotel zone (which if you're renting a car you might appreciate not having to drive through the hotel zone every night since it can be hell!). It's on the lagoon so there's no swimming or beach access but has a nice... more

We were pleased with the helpful staff. The room was adequate to sleep & shower. There is easy access to local transportation, eateries and entertainment. Away from the hustle & bustle of Cancun hotel row. Staff was more than willing to please us. more

This quiet little hotel has only about 30 rooms and is not a fancy hotel by any means but it is well maintained and clean although there may be a few lights and so forth that did not work over all it is very clean , has a nice view of the lagoon has a very good free breakfast every... more

We had two nights here in Jan 2009 before travelling on to Belize. We paid US$50 per night which included breakfast, served in a cute open sided cabana at the waters edge. If you are looking for the all inclusive resort experience then this is not for you, but if you just want somewhere clean to crash for a few... more

The hotel was what i expected. I booked online and pre-paid, and got the room for $42.00 US per night, what a good deal in Cancun! As a frame of reference, I am a flight attendant, and stay in hotels A LOT, from 5 stars to total dumps. Also, i speak spanish, so my experience might go more smoothly than... more

The room was clean, quiet and all staff was wonderful. We had good meals there and over all a great place to crash while you explore the real Cancun. We only had one concern - the Cubans who stayed while we were there were selling scamers and selling drugs. Not something one expects after their country just got hit with... more

I just want to warn anyone who is thinking of staying here - I got my cell phone stolen from my suitcase in my room!! The security here is nonexistant and the manager was unhelpful and tried to tell me that we must have brought guys to our room (definitely not the case!!) It took a lot of effort just... more

Just returned from a one nite stay here (after several days in Playa del Carmen we wanted to be closer to the airport for our return flight). This is my 4th time staying here but 1st review. Hotel is small but clean. We had a large room with a king sized comfortable bed, tv that worked and great AC. The... more

Great deal for those wanting a hotel deal with a lot to offer. Grand Royal has friendly staff, a pool, A/C, clean rooms, bathrooms, hot water, comfortable bed, TV w/ English channels, ping pong table, hammocks, sun deck overlooking the lagoon, hut/bar with $1 USD beers and $4 USD meals-no kidding! We booked based on reviews from this site and... more

First the hotel pictures from expedia's website were deceiving, the rooms were nothing like them. This is a hotel for people who just need to sleep somewhere for a couple of hours. The hotel is not on the main strip and is about 8 blocks from the downtown, doesn't seem like much but if you walk it several times a... more
