I just returned form the Akumal Beach Resort and I must say I was disappointed. I was well aware that this was a 3 star resort prior to booking but it was more like a 2 star resort. Rooms- Moldy and smelly. Very old. Beach- Beautiful, however, a women at the resort got stung by a sting ray even after... more

How wonderful to be back at the ABR 6/28 - 7/6/08). Our last visit was in 2006. We met friends from upstate New York (3rd timers) and from New Hampshire (2nd timers). First things first: The main bar was nearly under roof by the time we left. Amazing that it was all done by manpower. No heavy machinery. They would... more

Four families with a total of 8 teenagers and 8 adults booked this resort last August, but Hurricane Dean blew away those plans and we re-booked for this past June. We were a little concerned about the loss of some public rooms due to the fire in the main restaurant and lobby a few months ago, but many of the... more

The four of us (my wife, myself and our best friends) arrived in Cancun on 6/7 and the bus was waiting to take us to the Akumal Beach Resort. It took about 1:45 min. but was pleasant. A great deal of the reception, main dining hall, bar and gift shop had burned in late April so we were a little... more

This was our 4th visit to this resort. unfortunately, we found out about the fire that destroyed the main restaurant, the lobby, the main bar, gift shop, and public seating areas only two days before we went. If we had been told about the fire when it happened on April 28, we would have tried to reschedule to another hotel.... more

Great place to stay - definitely not "uppity" so if you are looking for that type of place do not stay here. The rooms have a great view of the ocean, the beach is beautiful! Everyone who worked there was very friendly. The tips are included and I read some reviews that said to tip more to get better service... more

We have recently returned from a week at the Akumal Beach Resort (ABR). The resort is aptly named because it's right on a wonderful beach. The location is magnificent. We spent a lot of time under the palapas on the beach soaking in the warmth. If you stay at ABR, the snorkeling right off the beach is so great that... more

My husband and I stayed at Akumal Beach Resort on March 16/08 for two weeks. We had no complaints as the beach and water was fantastic. I've never seen so many beautiful fish and turtles in my life! The only negative thing I have to say is that the beds are terrible! The mattress was so hard that I had... more

My husband and I went to ABR from Apr 25th to May 2nd. I had done a lot of reading and research prior to going so we knew what to expect before we got there. This place is a jewel from the past. Yes, it is a 3 star hotel but it's location, gorgeous beach which you can snorkel off... more

Imagine - all you can eat and drink, white sand beach, large pool, snorkeling with giant sea turtles, entertainment, and handicrafts (but no beach peddlers) all for under $300/night for a family of four . . . Too good to be true? Not at the Akumal Beach Resort (ABR)! We stayed in a ''superior'' room in building 6 at the... more
