there were only the two open. well, really three if you count the one at poolside where they had burgers and other sandwiches for lunch. it was open from 11am to 4 pm. we ate lunch there everyday. they also have an italian and a buffet. we ate at the italian once. too fancy for me. everybody who i talked to thought it was great. we ate every breakfast and dinner (except that one dinner) at the buffet. i thought it was very good. they had steaks, pork, fish, mexican stuff, potatoes, rice, etc. it kept me happy and full....

March 13 - 22nd. Are you saying that all the restaurants are not ALL up and running? Also how is the beach as far as rocks etc.

I heard that the beach is just now returning to normal. I am disappointed that it is only a few feet wide thiugh.

Thanks for the post ! Interesting about being a repeat guest but you do not like the "new" CP. My wife and I have also stayed at the CP many times. I have to admit though; it did need some updating. The black mold was always a problem for me. If you moved the ceiling tile in the bathroom ( once the plumber had to fix a leak) you could see the wall was chuck full of black mold. Obviously, that problem is fixed.

We will be staying at the SP in the Fall. How much has the SP changed around the pool. The pictures I have seen, facing the ocean, appears the small cabana on the right is gone and there seems to be an overhang of some type. Is there still a dining spot for lunch outside on the left as you face the ocean? I thought I saw a pergola on the left as you face the ocean. It has always been my wife's favorite spot for lunch. Is Valeria still the short order cook in the morning. She makes GREAT omelets !

Thanks for the update! Please tell us you will be posting pictures of the SP-I can only look at the ones that Ken so graciously shared so many times. I would love to see more :)

some answers....sorry, no pics. used an instamatic and can't download......re: cancun palace.. yes it did need updating a little. but this a whole NEW cancun palace. there was 1 pile of rocks to the right as your facing the beach. if that is all there is, it wouldn't be a problem. but like i said, it was night and the water was almost up to the wall, so i couldn't see what may or may not have been covered by the high tide. even at low tide, i don't think there would be much of a beach. i may be wrong, but at the sun palace at high tide, you still had as much beach left as the cancun palace had at low tide before the hurricane.....re: sun palace. not sure when the other restayrants will open, but they said soon. so who knows for sure. i never saw the pools before so i don't know how they have changed. they are nice though. have a swim up bar at one. singer, there is no babana by the pool. that overhang you mentioned is where they have the sandwiches, etc. they have about a dozen tables where you can eat. it is close to the pool and has a great view of the ocean. there wasn't any valerio cooking omelets. we talked to one of the waitress at the sun palace who had worked at the cancun palace when we were there in the past and she said after the hurricane they moved alot of the staff from the cancun palace and the sun and beach palace around to other places to try to keep them working. most of them are still working at their new places so you may not see too many familier faces. hope all this helps everybody...

A little update on past staff from the Sun Palace. Valeria is now at the Royal Solaris, along with Willie who used to run the lobby bar. Arline, waitress from the lobby bar is at the great Parnassus, I talked to her there a couple of weeks ago. Alex is at the Playacar Palace but said he is returning to the Sun. Maria who made the stirfries at the Sun is also at the Playacar, but will return to the Sun
