we just returned from our stay at the sun palace. everything was great. the room, the food, the booze. the staff and their service was wonderful. the beach was also great. i can't say enough good things about the place.we stayed a week and i have no complaints at all. we will be going back. the only construction is on the convention center and it was not a problem at all. didn't notice it at all.....the cancun palace IS open. there is alot of construction going on out front. some going on inside. it could be a distraction for awhile yet. we went there one night for dinner, two days after it opened. let me say this. if you loved the old cancun palace as much as we did, we stayed there 6 times, you won't like the new cancun palace. the old cancun palace was cozy, homey, warm and had a personality. the new cancun palace is just ANOTHER great looking hotel. if you had never been to the old cancun palace, you will probably love the new one. if you had been to the old cancun palace and loved it, you probably won't like the new one. at least i didn't. it has no personality. it wasn't warm and cozy. and the beach! we were there at night during high tide which takes away some of the beach of course. but i expected to see more than about two feet of beach from the retaining wall to the water. there was a beach chair on the beach. it's head end was against the wall and its foot end was in the water. not sure what the beach is like during the day and low tide, but there can't be too much there.....
