Just returned from Cancun Feb 27 and stayed at the Sun Palace. The spa is open as well as the restaurants. The Italian cuisine starts serving at 6 pm and it is elegant as well as delicious. We were serenaded by a jazz saxaphone--very nice. The other choice in the evening is a Mexican buffet in the main dining room which also serves an awesome breakfast with an omlette grill as well as a pancake/french toast/waffle grill. There is also a menu dinner served outside on the patio by the pool at night, but we did not experience that as the wait was longer than we cared for. There are two options during lunch--pool side as well as a luncheon buffet in the main dining room. Never worry about the salads. I have been to Cancun five times now over the past 10 years not to mention our kids and friends have been there and so far no one has become sick to the point of ruining a vacation. There is some construction going on next door to the south, but not obtrusive. The Sun Palace has just been reopened two weeks when we arrived, so they were just beginning to landscape. The decorations were slim to none--rather stark, but the potential is there. There are some glitches in the construction, but a call to the desk and someone was there within 10 minutes to make the repair. Overall we had a wonderful time. And our friendly, gracious Mexican hosts did all they could do to make our stay pleasant.

So are there only 2 restaurants for dinner - Mexican & buffet? Is the Oriental restaurant open yet? How are the rooms? Did you have an oceanview?
|
Dinner, (evening) available options: 1. Mexican Buffet 2. Italian with menu, brought in courses. Very elegant 3. Steak Menu on the patio outside the Mexican restaurant. There is no oriental restaurant, but the web site says there is an oriental lounge, but I did not see it. It may be in the bar, but I did not go into the bar, as I do not drink etoh. Didn't see any area that looked like a new eating area being constructed. You can rent a car for the week, and drive over to Moon Palace or Adventura Spa Palace for an oriental sit down. I rented a car for the week, and that adds a lot to a vacation. Rent at the airport. The basic Hertz rental is less than $100 for the week. I think all rooms have an ocean view. You can see a picture taken from our room at: http://cancuntrip.homestead.com.

Your pictures are almost painful to look at from Iowa! Maybe if I click my heels and wish......... what did you think of Playacar Palace?

LDC, What type of amenities do they have in the rooms? LeBlanc has BioSilk products, I was wondering if Sun had the same. You mentioned that all the rooms seem to have an oceanview. Are the jacuzzi's near the window, and does all the rooms have balconies? Karen

Sun Palace has BioSilk products. And not just little hotel fingerlings. About 6 oz bottles. Body Lotion, Shampoo, then smaller containers of conditioner, and silk therapy for your face. Shower cap. Shaving kit. Toothbrush and paste. Sewing kit. Hair dryer. Bathrobes, slippers. Iron and ironing board, shoe polish kit. All provided. The safe is huge. My laptop fit in it. Has wireless internet everywhere. They also provided a wheelchair and crutches for my sister who sprained her ankle at Xcaret. Doted over her to the max. The refrig was well stocked with sodas, water, and alcoholic beverages. Don't know for sure what the alcohol was, as I don't drink, so didn't check it out. There is an exercise room that looks out over the lagoon side. There are 2 main pool areas. One heated for evening or early morning dips. The other larger for swimming and sunbathing. Under the covered patio, they have padded lounges for relaxing and reading. There is also an exercise pool that has a current for swimming against. All the rooms have an ocean view. Jacuzzi is near the window, you can watch the ocean while you soak... Balcony on every room. We did not look in any rooms at Playacar Palace. But spent some time there. They have 2 big restaurants, then poolside food. The lobby is open with a large tree growing in it. I'll add a couple of pictures to http://cancuntrip.homestead.com. When we go back, we will probably stay at Coz Palace or Playacar Palace. Not that Sun Palace wasn't good-it was fantastic. Just like the variety.

LDC-Thanks for answering all our questions. Have a couple more for you. Did the gift shop have a lot of stuff? At ASP last year they had a lot of hats and tshirts and cover-ups really cheap (like 5.00) and also did they have a jewelry store on site like at ASP? THANKS
|
LDC, Thanks so much for your response. Sounds like their amenities are the same as LeBlanc's. Sorry to keep asking questions. Do you have pictures of the resort on the inside, and any room pic's, just trying to get a good idea before we get there. Karen
