As with many resorts the reviews are mixed. I am not a big fan of all inclusives as there are too many great choices in Cancun to get tied down to one resort even with multiple restaurants. Also, suspect there are better all inclusives in Cancun.

My mini trip report of the Omni. Have not been able to find time to do the full review, or post pictures, but hope to shortly.

courtbud, I think the reason why this resort isn't mentioned more is possibly because it is viewed as a good all around family friendly resort in a moderate price range. People tend to mention the upper echelon resorts and this one is more, I hope I don't insult anyone, "Middle of the road".

Now just for the record, I have not actually stayed at this resort, however many guests have very positive things to say, mostly about the service staffers and the quality of the food and beverages. Yes, the beach bar and jacuzzi is a nice feature, but just be aware that during school holidays, it tends to become a big attraction for the children.

On the topic of food, it has been a very long time that I can recall reading anything consistently negative about it. Most people miss the coconut shrimp which has been removed from the All Inclusive menu. The only repeat comment that seems to come up is that when on the All Inclusive program, you must sign for every single item you order. This becomes a bit of an annoyance after a while.

We visited a couple of the rooms and I can honestly say, that they are very basic but kept clean.

As for the service staffers, I think they were among the friendliest folks we have met at any of the resort in Cancun. Mind you we have stayed at more than 15 Cancun resorts, so this is really saying a lot, IMHO.

So all in all I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel if you have a family with children. However if you do not have kids then perhaps you would be better of to stay there only when school is in session. Finally, I would really trust the above poster’s as ag700 I know had recently stayed there and can really answer your questions a lot better than I.

eric, our problem is that we want an excellent beach, the rui palace i heard is small and looses the sun, we are going to cancun for beach and sun, we want huts on beach, palace doesn't have them, large pools, palaces are small correct? beach service, i know omni definitely has this, can't get a definite on this for palace, food reviews are better than rui, omni even has inpool lounge chairs and comfortable beds!!! How is this middle of the road, and rui palace rated higher - please explain, as the reviews i've read about the palace are glitz and glamour, but it ends there, food is terrible, not good service, looses sun early, and terrible smells throughout, especially at pools, please help us understand why this resort is rated so high??? We want to be close to shopping, bars, etc, but we want the sun, beach, service and good food.

courtbud, it doesn't sound like there should be any kind of confusion for making your decision. Since a large beach is very important to you then RPLA should not enter your decision making if Omni is on your list. I can not say for sure which of these have added palapas on their beaches but other resorts you may wish to consider include:

NH Krystal-this resort has All Inclusive and an innovative Dine Around program where you may eat at participating restaurants.

Gran Caribe Real

Le Blanc Spa Resort-high end Adults Only AI resort

Flamingo Resort

Barcelo Tucancun

Golden Parnassus-this is an Adults Only All Inclusive resort however they just opened their new family friendly sister resort Great Parnassus

Le Meridien-this is a higher end resort but is not All Inclusive, however they do have huts on the beach to rent and beach/poolside waiter service.

For the record, let me say that I visited the RIu Palace Las Americas and did not smell any horrific odors by the pool. Furthermore, the food was excellent at their steak restaurant. Since other guests mention they thought the food at the RPLA is better than the Riu Cancun, and we stayed at and enjoyed the food at the Riu Cancun, I am not sure why anyone would comment negatively about the food at either resort.

Courtbud, Your right, the Omni does look amazing. Have you seen the "beach beds" that they have?? They look freakin awesome! Can't wait to have a drink at that swim up beach bar jacuzzi while enjoying the spectacular view! My wife and I will be there in November and cannot wait. At least we will be going to Jamaica in July with the kids to hold us over until then. I say go ahead and book it, I don't think you will be dissapointed.

The best beach in is at the Westin IMHO. We have been to the Omni seven times. Of course we love it. Service and food is great. The beaches are eaten away on the ocean side the seven when we were there 3/3. To find the best beach you will need current info because the beach changes with the current.
