Oh No, Omni Beach Gone??? |
|
Just read the most recent review of the Omni....we are staying April 20th, 7 nights. The reviewer said the beach was gone! I'm devasted because we are devoted beach fans and our friends who are joining use will be first-timers. All we do is rave about the beach that is why they going. Any hope the beach will be okay by the end of April? |

We were just about to book here this weekend and now we are leary, i called the resort and they said the beach is beautifful, they don't speak english that well so not sure how much they understood my question??? But, please tell me what you find out too,

I hate to break the bad news to you but I had the same circumstance back in Aug, I was bringing a 1st timer (my gf) to Cancun to show her just how beautiful the beach and water is , in comparison to her home in Honolulu. Well to our dismay the beach was pretty beat up , littered with seaweed in most places, and where it was not, the water was very cloudy. The sand was still white and pretty in the dry areas but when you get in the water, it's very rough and sharp tiny pebbles, not like it was before the hurricane. I jumped on the forum before going to find out the truth but people were trying to be very positive about it and I tried to keep my hopes up. But I can tell you from my experience, better be prepared.

where did you stay, is the beach that bad at the top of the seven too in addition to the bottom>

I'm referring to the entire beach coastline from the top of the 7 (starting at the old Fat Tuesday) all the way down as far as El Pueblito.

Have you searched the forum for beach related posts? You will get the info you need. I was at the omni 3/3. There were rocks at the water line. There is a news story about the beaches if you search google news you will get it. We walked about 200 yards to the Oasis where the beach was fine. We always go to several beaches anyway. OUr favorite is at the Westin.

I stayed at the tri royals next door last week and it was hit and miss. Some beaches have rocks and some don't. If you just want to lay out there is plenty of beach for that. If you want to play in the water, you can, but you may have to pick and choose. It was pretty rough last week. Also the beach comes and goes depending on the tides. Chances are it could be worse or could be way better by the time you get there. On Sunday our first day there were rocks everywhere and on Wednesday there were almost no rocks visable. Then by Friday there were some rocks again. Also I have heard that they will be working on the beaches again before mid summer. You shouldn't worry too much, unless your friends are picky, they will have a great time in Cancun regardless of the beach. The weather was overcast and a little cool all of last week and we still had a blast.
