Cancun Forum: Le Blanc is about to get slammed

Le Blanc is about to get slammed

Just returned from a 5 day stay at "all inclusive, adults-only" Le Blanc. Notice the quotes...

A group of 10 of us wanted to celebrate our 30th birthdays in style, so we booked Le Blanc way back in October. No long details yet, I'm about to go to bed.

But long story short, they cancelled reservations so that they could accomodate a group that booked the entire resort for the next 3 years during Passover/Pasach. The group, which includes hundreds of children, arrived on Sunday and apparently paid over $2.5 million to reserve the entire hotel. That cost included the price of new silverware, glasses, plates, cups, etc in order to transform Le Blanc into Kosher for Passover resort. It also included the cost of floating toys for kids, cotton candy makers, jugglers for lobby entertainment, and many other wonderful things.

Of course, this is wonderful if you're actually part of the group. I was not and neither were the other 9 of us. Upon checkin on Thursday, in order to get our room key, management insisted we accept a transfer to Sun Palace for Sunday, because they would be transforming Le Blanc into a Kosher, family resort without alcohol beginning on Monday. We quickly accepted because it was the only was to get our room keys. Negotiations on reduction of price, or spa credits, were fruitless. When the kids started pouring in on Sunday, we were screwed. We have kids ourselves, but there is a reason you book adults only. You pay $500+ per night so that you have premium alcohol available if you want it. You pay that much so that you have gourmet food available, which hopefully includes non-Kosher/Passover foods like bread, meat, seafood, and countless other items.

I'll post more details at a later date, but be forewarned that the negative reviews on TA are accurate regarding the management at Le Blanc. They are ruining a fabulous resort with their disgusting customer service. The real clincher for us was when we spoke with an on-site member of management, who I won't name at this point. We asked to be compensated for our inconvenience, similar to how HE COMPENSATED OTHER GUESTS. We had proof that he had done so..like a $600 spa credit for a couple. His reponse: "I have the power to do so, but I will not do anything for you". Can you be more of an arrogant, SOB than that?

The fact that they would boot couples from their hotel so that they take in a boatload of money from a group is bad enough. The fact that they offered to move us to a lesser hotel (Sun Palace) in order to call it even is even worse. Lastly, and unbelievably, that they would then lie to our faces about deals they struck with other groups is sickening.

Our group of ten has vowed to never attend another Palace Resort again. I would advise you and your friends and relatives to reconsider any future plans with them. And if you don't believe me for some reason, I am positive that you will find other reviews/posts in the coming days/weeks to substantiate what I've told you above.

I am truly sorry that you had this incindent in what is supposed to be the best resort in Cancun. I am sure that you and everyone here agrees that Le Blanc has the right to book a group into their complex. What they did not do or forgot to do is to block all others from coming in and checking out the same day or a day after this group shows up. Someone obviously screwed up, and forgot to do their job properly. So what they tried was a joke in my opinion to make you feel better. One has to admit that they did try to place you into another resort, which in essence is not an unusual move for any hotel in case they run into problems. The way they went about it though is questionable at best nor should you as the guest accept it. What options you have are really very limited. One contact your travel agent, the owners of the resort to see what resolution they would offer to you. Finally contact your credit card company to see if you can contest the charge for the room portion of the trip since it was clearly not what you paid for. Between all of these you will more then likely come to some sort of resolution(which may not be exactly to your liking). But you really have no other options. When they made refused to allow you to check in with their story, that should have been the first clue for you to get out while you can. You also had an option to stay in the room past the check out time and see what would happen, but I agree with you the idea of kids in and adult resort would not make me happy either. But this is in hindsight. Perhaps you will have better luck on the 40th Birthday wherever you may go to.

The amazing thing is that Le Blanc truly acted as though they didn't care when we said we would rate them appropriately. It will be interesting to see if they change theri tune (whether openly to us or behind closed doors doesn't really matter at this point) when they see the overwhelming number of responses in a mere two days after the initial post, with constant additions almost by the minute! Thanks again guys, for all your support. We will definitely keep you posted.

Come on, this was not an oversight. They should not even have the right to cancel your reservation prior to arrival for no other reason than profit. If it's all about profit, maybe the guest should set the price for the week they contractually paid for. They also advertise "adult only", unlimited liquors, and I would think breakfast would include bacon and ham. If this is a accurate accounting of what LeBlanc did, they made huge money at pre-paid guests expense and should in turn make it profitable for the guests they inconvenienced. They also tried to book the guests at time of registration, into one of "their" properties that form their own pricing structure, does not compare to LeBlanc. If it's all about the money for them, they should compensate in the same way to insure that the people they screwed come out ahead just like they did. Bad, bad business model for the long term.

So sorry to hear your story. I would be furious.

I stayed next door to the LeBlanc from March 24 - 31. It seemed very, very quiet and empty there. We never saw many people at all out on the property.

Maybe they had finally stopped taking reservations so they could prepare for this group?

Just think of the damage done by hundreds of children???

I don't think I'd ever want to stay there.

Let me clarify a misleading statement that has been posted by a couple of well-meaning people here.

LeBlanc does have the right to book a group of people as long as they don't change the nature of the service offered at the resort, which is the reason why other people chose to book there and not elsewhere.

If I book an all-inclusive hotel, I expect to have access to all the food and drinks I want without having to pay anything extra. Suppose that a group of rich people booked an all-inclusive hotel but demanded that they want European style. Does the hotel management have the right to impose the hassle and worry of carrying a credit card or lots of cash on me, when I booked there on purpose expecting the opposite?

If I book a no-pets-allowed hotel, I expect no pets at all. Suppose a group of rich people offered the hotel a lot of money to bring their dogs with them. Does the hotel management have the right to impose other people's dogs on me when I booked there on purpose to avoid any contact with such animals?

If I book a non-smoking hotel, I expect no smoking at all. Suppose that a group of smokers offered the hotel plenty of money to have a big party where they are allowed to smoke. Does the hotel have the right to impose other people's second-hand smoke on me after they advertised that the hotel would be smoke free?

If I book a family-friendly hotel, I expect no full nudity at all. Suppose a naturist or lifestyle group offered the hotel a lot of money to hold their annual convention there. Does the hotel have the right to impose the presence of naked people frolicking around on me and my children?

Any court of law would dictate that failing to provide exactly what and all they had promised at the time I booked is a gross misrepresentation of their product and a breach of their contract with me since they didn't provide all and exactly what I paid for. This would be harshly punished by demanding the guilty party to offer equitable redress to the satisfaction of the victim.

Let's be clear: LeBlanc has the right to book 99% of its rooms to whatever group of people they want, as long as it doesn't inflict on my right to enjoy my stay there in the type of room I booked, receiving all the services promised to me when I booked. Anything less than that is not their right, but a violation of mine.

Just catching up on this situation, I have been sitting here reading since I got home from work. Shame on Palace resorts for treating their guests this way. You should be compensated for the entire trip because you didn't get what you paid for IMO.

I have never stayed at any Palace and now I'm so glad that they have never gotten one cent of my money. Good luck, amen! I hope you get 'em good.

Did all ten of your friends set up user names here and post their "reviews" of the resort?

I do realize it takes a couple days for them to show up.
