 cancuncheapticket.com + Travelcomm + SCAM!!

I received a fax at my work that looked like it was from my HR dept advertising vacation package specials for $329 per person for a 6day/5night cancun vacation.

I called the 800 number and after they assured me there were no other fees than what I was agreeing to pay at the time I went ahead and purchased the package with cancuncheapticket.com.

A full week goes by and I still hadn't received the package! They referred me to their "customer service" number who ended up being a supposedly different company named Travelcomm and they said that my package hadn't even gone out but they'd send it right out.

I googled the company Travelcomm and read all these horrible things about how they end up charging you a whole bunch of other fees for peak season travel dates. Supposedly, I had agreed on tape for the chance of these "peak season" charges. Guess what Peak Season is?!?!? Basically any month that isn't hurricane season so unless you want to be there during a hurricane you have to pay an additional $200-$600!!!

I immediately went to my bank and disputed the charges to my credit card and got a new card issued with a new card number so they can't mess with me in the future! I haven't received the package yet so I'm hoping that my credit card company will be able to deal with them and I'll get my money back for sure! Has anyone else had trouble getting their money back by just disputing it with your credit card company? Should I also send a letter of notice to cancel the contract with this company?

This is my first time to post anything on-line. I am a bit ashamed to admit, that I too just got scammed, just like the many others who posted their experience on this site.

While working for a Retirement Community here in Texas, we received a fax,on June 27, 2008, just like the one others received while they were at work.

Re.: Wholesale Vacation Packages

Reply To: Booking and Reservations at 1 800 679-3965 (This # doesn't even ring anymore today).

Supposedly, a vacation package at a wholesale rate to either Cancun, Mexico or Mayan Riviera for 6 days & 5 nights for only $361.00 pp. You choose your dates. Packages are open dated & valid for 1 full year.

So....I thought this was a great deal and I must be honest, I was skeptical. I also thought that it sounded too good to be true. So, I called the Booking & Reservations # to inquire.

June 2008: Spoke to John Moore at ext. 311. He told me his direct line is 800 731-2470. He somehow managed to convince me that this is legit so I went ahead and told him I was interested in the package. I asked him if they have a website. He told me it's lowestpricecancun.com. Gave him my credit card information. He then passed me on to a lady named Rachel who reviewed the charge over the phone. The whole conversation was being recorded. Told her that I will call & book my trip once I have my passport in place. Rachel then said that she will send me an e-ticket that I need to sign. I signed and authorized a charge of $798.00 which I was told is non-refundable. Faxed the signed copy back to (407) 363-1782.

October 2008: Called (407) 472-3320. This number was listed on the e-ticket as their Customer Service # to call to begin the Reservation process. Phone rang and rang then a recording came on. I was on hold for a very long time. Finally...spoke to Elisse. I tried to book my trip for April 2009. Elisse told me to call back in November. Too soon book. Reservations have to be made 6 months out. She said she can't access reservations this far out.

November 2008: Called several times. Phone just rings & rings. Sometimes I get frustrated I just hang up. Called again several times, same thing. When someone finally picked up, she told me that I should receive a call from Manjie. She is supposedly the Rep that will be handling my reservation. Never got a call back.

December: Got really busy with the holidays and didn't get a chance to call them back right away. Still haven't heard from Manjie. Called them again late in December. Finally got someone to pick up the phone. Gave them my April dates. I was told that the week of the 12th-17th is a holiday. There will be additional charges if I travel on those dates. Something like $300 more pp. I then said, ok, how about the 13th-18th. Same thing. I wish I was told this back in November. Now I'll have to pick out new dates and call them back again and they're so hard to get a hold off. Just getting them to pick up their phones is so frustrating in itself.

January 2009: Called the same 407 #. Got a recording that says, all circuits are busy, try again. Tried calling them all day long. Finally got them to pick. Again, the lady that answered the phone, told me that in 2 minutes, a lady named Sheila will call me back. 1 hour passed, no call from Sheila. I started getting more concerned about this vacation. I called them back, ring, ring ring, held for a very long time. Finally, I was transferred to Sheila. Not a friendly person at all. Gave her my new dates. April 18th-25th. Sheila said that this is peak season and travel on these dates will cost an additional $200 pp. I just sighed and asked her, ok, I am interested in the Cancun/Bel Air hotel. She said that the hotel is not available. I said, well what about the The Krystal. Not available either. She said I can stay at the Omni Cancun for an additional $299 (not sure if this is pp). By this time, I am already very irritated by all this. So I asked her, so when can I travel where I don't get charged more than what I already paid? She said after May 8th and only until June, after that there will be additional costs again and not to mention, I only have until July to travel. Apparently May to June is hurricane season. I told her I'd have to call her back.

Talked to my husband. He said just go ahead and book for any date after May 8. So I called back. This has taken my whole day already. Talked to Sheila again (she was still very unfriendly). I told her I'm interested in traveling after May 8. She said that she can't tell me if they have any availabilities in May because she doesn't have the dates yet. I asked her what do you mean you don't have the dates? She said, she can't access those dates at this time so I'll have to call again, say, next mont or closer to May. I couldn't believe it. I told Sheila...forget the whole thing. I told her it would be easier if I just booked my own vacation. I told her I want to cancel the whole thing. She quickly reminded me that the charge is non refundable. I told her that I know and I will no longer deal with them and I will just deal with my credit card company.

Anyway guys, bottom line is, I don't know if this is a scam or not. But I do feel that they are very deceptive. The more time in invest in trying to book this trip, the more I feel that I keep getting the runaround. I certainly felt scammed. I went on line to do some research on this company and I was not surprised to find that I am not alone in this experience. I even called the FTC to inquire about this and the lady I talked to told me that considering my experience with trying to get this trip booked, it is very likely that even if they were a legitimate business that their practices are very deceptive. I didn't know wether to call again in March or just give up on this whole vacation. Right now, I feel like, I will just run out of time to book this trip within the 1 year. I talked to my husband and he told me that even if we already paid for this trip, even if the charge is non-refundable, since we are in very good standing with our credit card company, he doesn't think that we'll have any problem at all getting a refund. We haven't gone on the trip and we have made several attempts to book this trip. I think this company has wasted enough of my time. The savings is simply not worth all the wasted time, the frustration & the headache.

I read that some of you are looking for a copy of the original fax? I have it. Do you still need it? I'll do a follow-up post to let you know how it will all work out with the credit card company. A lot of people seem to think (or know), that this vacation is truly a scam.

I am in the same situation, I booked my trip on 2/9 for 3/22-3/27, I was supposed to get conf of my trip 7-10 days from 2/9, still have not got it. I already have plan tickets so I contacted a local travel agent a booked the trip. I disputed my cc on 2/23, I will let you know how it goes.

I am STUPID, STUPID STUPID because I used my ATM/Bankcard for the transaction. The banks do not have the same guarantees as the credit card company and my husband and I just looked at each other and asked ourselves "How could we have made such a stupid mistake?". At this point, we both decided to not even bother trying to pursue this matter with our bank and charge this whole experience to our "Lessons learned in life" and hopefully, we won't get scammed again in the future. It's just too much hassle so we decided it's just not worth our time anymore. We lost more than $800.00 on this deal and we are cutting our losses.

As for you, you should definitely try to get your money back from your credit card company. Others have been successful at getting their money back. Have you read the other blogs posted by others who were also victimized by this scam?

Please... don't give them any more funding than they have already scammed from you!

Call the AG's office and also call the BBB to report your scam. Only when we all do the same thing will they finally disolve and go away.

Here's how they work:

They are hopeful that their "scam" about a recording (which has never surfaced, and always has been found to be for the victim and not them.)

They prey on those who are not able to fend for themselves on the legal end of it, or at the very least- learning about them on the Internet.

And for those who think they actually offer something worth while: Think again. My daughter and son-in-law went to Cancun and looked for the address the posted. TRUST me... it was not there.

The same address was also listed for "lowestpricecancun.com" and also for others who were posting this address. I've even sent this to the folks at 20/20 (TV news show) and I hope they do an expose on this.

I gave my real E-mail address and many came back to me saying the same thing- scammed and no where can help be found.

Only with complaints to the AG's office as well as the BBB (in your own State), will they finally be put out of business and go away. Until another person comes upmwith the same scam. I am trying to have a Federal law filed that states these fax scams are illegal to use business fax lines for sales and if they do... they will be pursecuted to the fullest degree of the US law. Maybe then, we won't have to worry about these scams and have to worry more about the state of the US economy.

If you want to join the folks who are trying to make this a new Federal Law, please contact me at gagnes@comcast.net

I will be more than glad to add you to the list of folks who want these scammers stopped dead in their tracks.

Hi There,

Thanks for the advice. I will follow up with a complaint to the AG's and the BBB. I have already filed one with the FTC (Federal Trades Commission). My husband and I are considering filing a case with the small claims court also. This might help get our bank to help us recoup the money we lost (I'm not sure we would but it might be worth a try). I do want to join your group so I'll send you an e-mail at the address you gave. You're right! Only if we all gather together can we put this scammers out of business. Thanks again.

HELP!!!What do I do? I think I have been scammed too, but I called the hotel BEL AIR directly and they say I am confirmed and paid for. All the details of the trip sound like it is all good to go....all inclusive, ground transportation. Does this hotel really exist? I called the hotel directly, not through CMBTT or any other "travel agency." I leave for my trip in 4 weeks and I am wondering what to do.

As long as you have confirmed your reservation and have gone online to view the resort, I would think you were ok. My biggest complaint with this was not necessarily that it is a TOTAL scam. I was not interested in doing the mandatory timeshare presentation thing as I have been to MANY and most of them are a royal pain!!! I asked over and over again before providing my cc # that there in fact was NOT a mandatory timeshare requirement and was told absolutely not. So just be prepared to attend the presentation and make the best of it. If you have everything booked, I would go and have a great time! Godd luck to you and have fun!

I think if you are booked for your trip you are OK. The trouble I was having is that when I call to book my trip, it's so difficult to even get them to pick up the phone. So much of my time is spent trying to book the trip after I've already paid for it. Then, when I manage to get someone on the phone, I am told that I have to pay an additional fee for every travel date I give them. When I ask them...when can I travel where I don't have to pay anymore than what I already paid, they tell me April but when I try to book the dates they give me, they tell me to call again because they don't have access to the booking system at this time. I've been trying to book my trip since last year. I am starting to run out of time. My husband and I decided to just give up because we couldn't even get the trip booked. It's so aggravating and every person I talked to on the phone is also very rude.

I'd love to hear about your experience when you return from your trip. Did you have to pay extra? What was your experience like booking your trip?

At this point, if I could get my trip booked, I am willing to sit and listen to the 3 hour timeshare presentation since I already paid for the trip and I can't get my money back. The problem is, I couldn't even get to the point of booking the trip. They may be a legitimate business but they're practices are very deceiving.

Today, I decided to see how quickly this company responds to e-mails. All my previous attempts to get this trip booked has been via the phone. So, I sent an e-mail to sandoshotels@gmail.com. Much to my surprise, I get a call from the same rude Rep. that I talked to in the past. Her name is Sheila. Again, I ask her to tell me when I can travel without incurring additional charges. She told me the same thing she told me before. If I travel towards the end of April, there will be no peak season charge, however, the only hotels she have available are the upgraded hotels which will cost an additional $300. So I told her this: So Sheila, basically, what you're telling me is that if I want to go on this trip, I would have to pay extra and there is no getting around it. She said "yes". So I said to her, ok, where can I choose which hotel I want to stay at? So she gives me this new website which has never been mentioned before http://www.cmbtt.com

She also told me that her direct e-mail address is sheila.fields5@gmail.com

I visit the website and it looks very much like the old http://www.lowestpricecancun.com website. I did a search on the internet on this company, and I found this. ripoffreport.com/reports/…ripoff0434021.htm

Let's continue to share information because I think this is the only way we can protect ourselves from this modern day bandits.

OK, well my trip is booked for 4/22-4/27. I called the hotel directly and they told me that I am confirmed with an ocean view, all-inclusive and everything is paid for. They also told me that the taxes would be dealt with Cancun Travel Now and Cancun Travel Now called me to submit payment for the taxes. So far it seems like this is really going to happen...let's see once I get there. Supposedly, sometimes these things are partial-scams. So, yes, everything may be booked, but once I get there I may hear a whole different story. But like I said, we'll see. I will be bringing the name of another hotel in the area and a credit card, in case this one doesn't work out! I will make sure to reply to the post after my trip to let you know how it goes.
