Yeah, I never get stuck getting home, but I can almost promise I will lose the first day of vacation.

Last year we lost the first day and a half because our connection was cancelled.

A few weeks ago, DFW Airport got 8 inches of rain in non-stop thunderstorms that rolled through, so we lost a full day due to cancellations there.

Never get cancelled on the return flight though!

I know everyone thinks it is great to have your return flight cancelled. But it really isnt worth the stress. We were traveling in the Dominican a few years ago and there was a storm in NY (or home city) so out flight was cancelled. We could not confirm rooms at our hotel for the night (they kept telling us they were sold out) nor was the travel group (Apple who I had used many times before) any help. We could not get any answers as to where we would be sleeping or when we would be flying home. With that looming over us we could not sit and relax on the beach and we had to check out of our rooms. While eating lunch someone from Liberty Travel walked by with a sign that said "New York". Even though we did not book with them we asked and were given information that a flight was scheduled for the next day. When I called our travel group they said there was no such flight. With my insistance they finally found the flight and got us booked. And were eventually able to get rooms for an additional night. But it was so stressfull I would not wish that on anyone. I was never contacted by our travel group during the entire experience. I have booked every package trip since then with Liberty Travel and have never been dissapointed.

I also experienced a good flight cancelation from Cancun a couple of years ago (I like to travel during the winter). But this time I was staying at at time share with friend and they still had another week. Knowing you had a bed to sleep in and a room you could go back to anytime during the day made all the difference. I only had to spend about 4 hours on the phone trying to figure out which airline I had to talk to to get rebooked. That time I booked American flights thru Mexicana. I will never do that again. I like ( and pay extra for non stop flights) Mexicana only has connections in Mexico City. But I did eventually get home around 3AM 2 days later.

My only experiance getting a flight cancelled was great! It was coming home from Vegas on a trip I won in a drawing! Double luck. They even up graded our hotel on the strip. Plus, the travel agency had some pull, and the airline gave us all vouchers to fly anywhere they went worth $400. So the next winter I flew to Puerto Vallarta on the airline.
