Newbie to the Cancun Forum - a little disturbed

Thanks to the destination experts and fellow travelers from Tripadvisor, my family and I planned and enjoyed an incredible vacation last year to New York City. I have been following the Cancun forums for the past several weeks hoping to gain the same kind of information for our upcoming 10th anniversary trip to Cancun next spring.

I must say I am a little disappointed at the amount of squabbling and bickering that goes on in this forum. This morning the first three posts I opened -Cancun Dangerous?, Appreciation to TA, and car rental questions - all turned into personal attacks between members rather than providing the information the original poster requested.

As I plan my first trip to Cancun (which I am already excited beyond belief for), I am not really concerned with someone's spelling, math skills, or retirement account. If you have a difference of opinion on a topic, such as rental cars, I appreciate the different opinions and I am a big girl and can make my own decisions based on the information provided and my own research.

I am really hoping I can learn everything I can about Cancun as I plan this special trip for my husband and I, but at this point, I am almost afraid to open another post or ask my own questions.

I do realize that this is just a few people, so a big thank you to those of you who stay on topic and help newbies like me with their vacations!

Sorry you feel this way and I can understand why. It seems some people are a bit irritated today for some reason. Don't lose faith in TA as 99.99% of us are here to help and educate. Don't be afraid, post away!

Snoopy226,

I respect your views. I was guilty of asking the Cancun Dangerous? poster to look at the other thread becasue the same information was being discussed there, at the same time! I felt they could obtain the pros, cons and opinions all in one spot.

I am only using this as a suggestion that sometimes all the information you need is withing a scroll or two. Sometimes there are concurrent posts running on the same subject.

Please post your questions just have you have shared your thoughts here :)

I feel you OP (snoopy), I am new to the Cancun forum and am going on my first trip to Cancun in about a week or so, and I started a thread, found here: …tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g150807-i8-k29094…

the thread didn't get any hits, so I tried to "bump" it back to the top to generate some views and replies, but nada ...

what gives?

Cormac55,

Thanks for the encouragement! However, I certainly wasn't referring to your post - I was referring to the ones that digress into 2 or 3 people personally attacking each other completely off-topic.

Hi snoopy226 ... I understand your concern but I just wanted to say that this forum has been VERY helpful to me and MILD in comparison to some other TA forums. Oh, yeah, seriously, I could tell you stories. :-)

I have gotten some wonderful advice here from extremely nice people, who have gone out of their way to offer their insight. I am so grateful for it. Don't be afraid to start a thread with your questions. What's the worst that could happen? Someone disses you? Eh, shrug it off and move on. :-)

P.S. Then, once you are a veteran, you can join us crazies on the Off Topic Chatter forum!

Having been on here for a few years, and pretty much every day, I can agree that it gets a little childish and annoying sometimes. I think, overall, we are a big "family" over here. More so than a lot of other destination forums. At least from what I've noticed. It's a pretty active forum. So tensions and feelings can run high sometimes.

Like everyone else said - there are a lot of good people and good information to be learned from the board. Give us another chance! :)

snoopy, we went to Cancun for 2 weeks in February and I want to go again now. But, I can't book up because I'm skint (credit crunch and all that). So go, enjoy yourself and remember that there's lots of folk who wish they were joinig you on the flight

I agree with ZsaZsa. Hopefully you'll find all the info you need to plan another great vacation Snoopy.

Tip to Mempho to Diego ... many people might not have opened up your thread because the title leads us to believe it's a roll call ... meaning you are just looking for other travelers that that will be in Cancun at the same time as your trip. You might have better luck with something titled along the lines of things to do near Hilton, or check some of the "must do" threads.
