 Thomas Cook!!

Anyone actually had good service from them? They're so useless!

I called once to enquire about booking a hotel and it was like drawing teeth; I ended up hanging up and doing it myself on-line..

Then there's the appalling waits when you call: has anyone actually got through nearly straightaway? I've dealt with numerous other TO's and travel companies, and the longest I've waited for someone to answer is 10 minutes: every single time anyone I know has called, no matter what time or day, the wait is always 30-45 mins AND it's an expensive number!

Then there's the matter of my friend sending a cheque with attached form with our booking details to oay our balance; cheque is cashed, but a couple of weeks later they write saying we haven't paid and the booking will be canceled... Several (long and costly) phone calls later, and no apology, and still no further; eventually get an email to say 'thanks for your payment', but no phone call as promised...

Then there's my parents going into their local shop to ask a simple question and being told they can't help as they booked on-line (but you're Thomas Cook right? I never had that problem with Thomson or First Choice)

Seriously, never again! Their prices are often slightly cheaper and my guess is this is why!

Rant over lol

1. Re: Thomas Cook!!

I have booked my one and only package tour this year to Mexico with Thomas Cook.

I have for 20 years booked all my own holidays throughout the world. This time a particular bargain came up and it also included premium seats and direct flights.

From the moment of booking it to now having received my tickets everything has been superb and on time. I have used my local Travel Agent to conduct all the business and they have absorbed all the time if any on the phone (I wouldn't know).

Before I booked and paid anything I made sure that I had every conceivable answer to my queries.

For me personally in my vast experience of booking one holiday they are perfect and trouble free.

I am sorry you have had such a miserable time.

Why didn't you book it in your local shop ? if it was for cost then perhaps the service is different. You haven't paid for the personal touch.

Everybody and every company has bad dealings and bad days, I would be amazed if Thomson and First Choice have never screwed up a holiday before, perhaps not with you but with someone.

My advice is relax and enjoy the build up and preparation to a great holiday. Chilllllllllllllll maaaaaan.

Tbh at the end of the day they are all as bad as other and they dont care about your holiday, they just wat to make money.

If i had my way if people cancelled and they only hadhalf a plane they should be forced to fly with it for the pople who have booked.

A few years ago i had massive problems with First choice getting a refund, this year TC have been a bit of a pain but have come through in the end.

HI

I work for TC - in a high street store - I would just like to say that when we get customers in who have booked direct we answer any questions we can but if they are related to a booking made online or over the phone we are unable to access those bookings on our systems.

When phoning through to tour operators - TC or others we do spend along time on hold - if direct customers come in the shop we offer to let them use our phone to make the call to sort out their problem but are unable to get involved with the booking.

Like the other reply said - you do get a personal service booking face to face - when there are problems - we sort them out and just keep in touch - I have previously booked a holiday online and would never do it again - as had bad experience with incorrect names on tickets, mistakes on hotel vouchers and had a stressful time making phone calls & getting it all sorted.

Hope you have a good holiday!

I haven't experienced this with any other tour operator though (and I've used about 5 different companies in the last two years). Thomson for eg are on a local number and answer within minutes if not seconds; you can also go in to the store to ask about online or phone bookings.

I've also found that some TC people I've spoken to seem to know less about what they're talking about than I do..

Maybe just me, but I've had issues on two separate bookings now, so it isn't great.

I also don't believe a cheaper online price is a good excuse for poor customer service after the booking; IMO the point of paying extra in-store is for the help BEFORE you make your booking; any queries you have after should be dealt with efficiently and professionally regardless of how you booked.

Just my thoughts; others have clearly been luckier!

Looks like you have been unlucky.

You should have stuck with what you are happy with and booked a Thomson holiday rather than a TC.

I totally agree with you that the service offered by a company should always be of the highest and impeccable level, however sometimes it can go wrong.

I dare say the Swine flu out break has left call centres and agents absolutely frazzled. Can you imagine having to rearrange cancel or try and show good faith to the 10's of thousands of folks whose vacations were cancelled due to the government putting a stop to travel.

Regardless of wording this is why the flights stopped not because the TO wanted a rest. I reckon TC have been fairly good at dealing with the vast majority of cases but I am sure some slip the net.
