Ronja I have failed miserably at updating! So sorry - having too much fun and trying to keep up with a group of 8! The boys did the zipline yesterday and loved it. Then they rented ATV's there. One of the boys (23, not young) was appalled at the way they kept the horses with their heads tied so they couldn't move or get any water (he lives on a horse farm and knows the care they need - ah but this is Mexico). If anyone goes, make sure to complain about it as itis the only way to get things changed!
We are oceanfron on the 8th floor and have a great view. Most all floors have a great view except the 4th which is just above the steakhouse & the 3 hottubs (pools?). The view is a little obstructed - you can see the ocean but not the pool. The occupancy is low. Yesterday was busy but I think there were a lot of visitors from other Palaces. There are a lot of people taking the "90 minute tour" that were brought in from other hotels and are using the facilities for the day. I am sure nobody will have trouble booking oceanfront. The workers here think that the swine flu was just a trick by the media trying to get the US to stay home and spend money there. But you can't beat it here. It is wonderful and they bend over backward to accommodate your every whim. The tours they are running are: Isla Mujeres, Chichen Itza, Tulum/
Xpu-ha, Zipline & Wet & Wild. They are offering BOGO Swim With The Dolphins. As members, they also gave us $100 spa credit & $100 golf credit - which was a first.
To answer the question, you don't have to be a member to book Miyaki. They do it in El Mercado now, not the lobby. It is fun, but the teppanyaki tables are hot and it is not as good as the US, but we always do it for the show. Our best meals have been at Leonardos, but be prepared for a long drawn out process. The Mexican coffee there is a great show.
The ocean has been calmer the last few days so I got in it yesterday. So refreshing, but when you get back in the pool it feels like a hot tub in comparison!
I will update you all after I get back (tomorrow night :-(
Ronja we are also thinking of January & June!
