 Question for locals on flooding

After being in the downtown area during Stan two weeks ago and seeing how bad the flooding was, I really am curious as to how the downtown area and Cancun in general fares during something even more severe. I've shown pictures to my friends of the flooding and of me wading through almost knee deep water and they were astounded by how bad it was. Now that it is looking like you may get hit by something much bigger, I am having a hard time imagining how bad it will be. Here's hoping it misses all land and everyone stays safe.

Most tropical cities "flood."

The soils are limestone karst (in the Yucatan, Florida, etc.) and

drain well. I imagine installing storm drains to get on top of an

innundation aren't feasible. Enjoy.
