Hola!
Yesterday I sent an e-mail to the Omni inquiring about the hotel status and such and already got a reply back from them.
The management at the Omni just decided yesterday to extended their re-opening date from Dec. 22, 2005 to Feb. 1, 2006. The e-mail stated that they will update their web site with this new information sometime next week. They will take the additional time to completely renovate the resort, including all guest rooms. The Omni was great before, but now it will be better than ever and that's great news for all of us that enjoy staying there.
They said they still have some beach and it's growing little by little each day, so that's promising. There's exposed rocks, but they will be covered up again with time, as mother nature repairs itself.
The hotel owner is keeping all the staff employed during the entire renovation....awesome! The sense of community there was and is still tremendous. They are all joined together with a common bond to bring the Omni and Cancun back, better than ever, refurbished and more modern.
I have a trip booked for February 16-24 and am anxious to see the "NEW" Omni Cancun Hotel.
Well, that's all I know at this time.
