Thinking about keeping our Feb. reservations against our T.A's advice. Anyone seen or heard anything about the progress there??
We have reservations for 2/20-27 and our travel agent seems to think they will be opening on time. I'm a little anxious, but don't want to cancel our plans so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
A few days ago someone posted that there was a lot of work going on at the Omni and it looked like it would be opening soon....haven't seen any other news about it besides that one and not even sure how much I can believe that.
Below is the current corporate official statement from the Omni along with their numbers etc. It's known that the Omni's beach was in very bad condition after the hurricane but work has been underway to repair the sea wall and clean up the remaining beachfront.
I'd recommend contacting the Hotel directly, to inquire as to conditions, availability of amenities and any lack of services, if such.

I'm booked for 3/4 and am hoping to hear some encouraging news myself.
We will be arriving at the Omni 2/22/06. I emailed the Omni directly with very specific questions (Their email address can be found on the Omni website.). They assured me that the hotel will be fully operational by 2/1/06, including the beach jacuzzi bar and the beach restaurant that were demolished in the hurricane.
Received this Today!!! Señorita Ryan,
Due circumstances beyond of our control, we will reopen with some of our
services still in reconstruction such as the beach restaurant and jacuzzi
beach bar.
If you would like to enjoy a property with all services normal operating I
would recommend to try our sister hotel at Puerto Aventuras. It is a
charming boutique resort nested in one of the most beautiful beaches at the
Mayan Riviera. Or you can try to switch your reservation by the end of
February.

That's a disappointing e-mail. Not the least be encouraging. Maybe it is just the way it is worded, but it almost seems like they want to you to reconsider staying at the Omni anytime soon.
What e-mail address did you use? I just now sent an e-mail to leticiaomni@hotmail.com to see if I get the same sort of reply.
Since we are a family of 5, we chose the Omni because we could get five of us in one room...any suggestions of another place to stay that would accomodate 5 in one room?
Sent E-mail to leticiaomni@hotmail.com We are now going to be staying to the Riu Caribe. They do have 2 double beds I dont know about rollaways or cots. Good luck!! I am so dissappointed. But the T.A. was really impressed with the Riu Caribe. And we saved $500.-!!

How long did it take you to get a reply from the Omni when you wrote? I send an e-mail on Saturday and haven't heard anything.
