Thinking about keeping our Feb. reservations against our T.A's advice. Anyone seen or heard anything about the progress there??
As of today here is what they are saying. I think it likely the will be open 3/1. We will be there 2/25. We booked our flight and received confirmation from the Omni before we learn about the delay on this forum not from them. I am sure we will have fun anyway. We always do. If necessary we will try to go through the Mayan.
I am sorry Mr. Tubten!, it was not my intention offend you with my honesty, all the employees feel frustrated with this situation, the hotel was planned to be done on February 1st, and just the company in the contruction let us know 4 or 5 days before that, They have fallen behind due to machinery problems and the inclement weather days that ocurred in January (rainning). The beach area has eroded more due to this and has made their job more difficult in rebuilding the Piña Colada and Kuku´s, as they need to make sure these areas are reinforced to withstand the increasing powers of Mother Nature. I am also disappointed with this, as we have many guests, like yourselves who are affected by their set backs and if all things went perfect, we should have been done on time, but unfortunately, this is not the case.
What I can assure you is that once the resort is completed it will be beautiful and worth the wait for everyone. The improvements will only enhance value to our Vacation Club owners, who wish to enjoy a modern, refurbished hotel that is up to date, offering the very best installations with our renowned service.
We are going to have La Paloma Restaurant, Da Vinci Restaurant, Pool Grill (with Piña Colada`s Menu), Lobby and Pool Bar opened. However let me pass this suggestion to our Management in order they can get an access to the beach.
I apologize for all this situation you are passing with us, I let you know more details as soon as I receive it, and please do not hesitate in contact me if you require more information.

The e-mail I got today bascially said they had their meeting with the construction company and everything is still expected to open March 1st. And there will be beach palapas.
Thuben, I think you have a great attitude. That said, you're bound to have a wonderful trip. Enjoy!
thuben: Thanks for another great update. The Omni is a special place for my wife and I. Although she has her doubts I am trying to keep the faith. As I see it if the sun is shining, the cervesa is cold and I don't have to drink it under a palapa covered in a foot of snow I know all will be right with the world. See you there.
Hi All: I just got off the phone with Marisol. The latest is no guests until the 25th. The situation with Kuku's and Pina Colada sounds unlikely either will be open by the first week in march. Every thing else seems to be the same news as in the last week or so. See ya there!!!!
Hi All Again.
I spoke with Marisol from Omni Member Services this morning. She said that as of today, the news is the same. Omni Club Members will be able to arrive on the 25th. Still no Kuku's bar or Pina Colada. Beach access through the Oasis or the Royal Mayan has not been determined yet.(they feel it is unsafe due to the construction machinery and workers). Thats about it. Still can't wait to get there.
Later: Tom
We will be the test subjects. I am expecting the worst and hoping for the best. I sent email asking about plates, internet, payphones, and the store across the street. No response yet. I am bringing my own beach umbrella.
Just got a reply to my email. Here is what it says. Note this applies to my reservation 2/25-3/4 and if you are coming later then it may not be applicable to your situation.
Dear Mr. Thubten:
Recieve the warmest regards from the Member Services Staff, please see below my answers to your questions I hope this has been helpful. We are trying to do our best to have ready everything, We are planning to have La Paloma Restaurant, Pool Areas, Da Vinci Restaurant, Lobby Bar. We are not going to have ready Kukus Bar and Piña Colada Restaurant, and for that reason we are going to have closed our beach area for your own security since we have machines rebuilding those restaurants.
I hope you understand this situation and the bad wheater we had this months (rainning) which it did not help us with all of our plans for the reopening.
Please do not hesitate in contact me for any further assistance. I will be more than glad to help you.
Q. Will there be plates in the rooms like you had before?
A. Yes, we are planning to have all of our Vacation Club units available.
Q. Will there be Wifi internet in the lobby?
A. We are going to do our best to have all of our services.
Q. Will you have Payphones?
A. We did not lose them.
Q. Will the store across the street near captains cove be open?
A. That Dely or store and also our Dely both of them are opened, just the Restaurant Captains Cove is not open¡
I am hoping that it is all going to be o.k. for the vacations coming up at the end of February. Please let us know how it all was when you get back. Enjoy your vacation.
This is long, but I think it will help anyone that's interested in the Omni's status.
For those of you who don't know, the Omni is not only fixing up after Wilma, but they are remodeling pretty much the entire resort.
I have been very concerned about the Omni's condition for our upcoming trip this Friday, March 3. That said, I have been emailing them frequently (I'm sure I'm driving them nuts!) and have info to share. They also sent me numerous pictures, which put my fears to rest. The resort looks great overall. The beach is absolutely enormous!!!!!!! You really have to see it to believe it. I showed the beach pic to my 13 year old daughter and she actually said, "it's going to take us forever just to get to the water!" What a thing to complain about. LOL! I wish I could post the pics on this site for you all to see, but I can't get them to post.
I should also mention that Vic with Cancun Valet told me last week that he didn't think we should stay at the Omni because it was a huge mess (he has been there often lately for some reason). I totally trust his opinion, as he is a friend. He said the Omni needs a rubbing lamp with three wishes to get things in shape. That all changed fast, as he went back to the Omni and then told me that they must have found the rubbing lamp because they made some huge progress and he felt we'd have a nice stay there. Cool.
Here is what I know:
The Omni is open.
The beach restoration is completed at the Omni.
There is beach access, but not by the Jacuzzi bar area.
They began installing palapas today on the Pina Colada side of the beach and that will completed this Friday.
The Pina Colada is suppose to open Mar.8 or so. I personally think it will take longer, but that's just my guess.
The Jacuzzi bar is suppose to open March 15 and I also think this will take a bit longer.
The La Paloma, Pool Grill and Da Vinci's are all open.
I saw a picture of a room and it really looked beautiful.
There is beach and pool service.
I saw quite a few new shade umbrellas around the pool.
The kiddie pool has a fun fountain now.
The pool swim-up bar and that pool is closed, as they are still working on the roof part. It looks like it will open fairly soon. The other two pools are open.
The lobby bar is open and there is live entertainment nightly.
We just decided today that we will be staying at the Omni as of March 3. Wooohoo!
I agree with fun4ever.
Omni has made significant strides not only in Wilma recovery but overall overhaul.
I saw the pictures and it is impressive. I am looking forward to being on the beach and at the Omni next week!
I will send a link to pictures to show all the improvments, etc. after I return.
