puntaconta,

Why would you have to stay away from the beach because of possible sea lice in the water? They might bit you, but again they might not. It sounds to me that 4 people could be in the same area and 1 gets bit, but the other 3 don't.

Don't stay away from the water! I've been there in May and nothing happened. I got attacked in February, so don't worry!

Just got back last night from a week at Crown Paradise Club. We spent hours and hours in the water each day with no sign (or side effects) of sea lice. Also swam at Puerto Adventuras, Akumal, Tulum ruins (icky because of all the seaweed), and snorkeled by Club Med and never had a problem.

Just got back from Cancun (Mid-May). Had no problems until the last day. Went swimming on the eastern side and the next day, when I was home, I had clusters of little itchy red bumps in several places. Maybe it was the seaweed that I got into since I don't seem to have any where my board shorts were. The other person I was with had no bumps at all. Go figure. I was swimming all week and this is the only time I had problems. It happens but who knows when and where.

The only times we have seen sea lice is in April. They last exactly one day and the next it is fine. First time we didn't know what they were until something was posted and then we just stayed out of the water that day and the next it was perfect. The sting can be annoying, but nothing that you really have to worry about.

Just got back from the Riu Yucatan. My husband went scuba diving on the Playa Del Carmen side as well as Cozumel. No sign of sea lice.
