Hello, My husband and I are going to Cancun for the first time this june, and I really want to go on the lobster dinner cruise. for a romantic dinner. I was just wondering if we should go on the earlier time (5) or the later (8)? Which do you think and why? Also, do you have to choose either lobster or steak, or can you have a little of both , and is there a drink limit? Also, where is the dock located, and do you know about how far away that is from barcelo tucancun? Also any thoughts about the speedboat jungle tour would be great! thanks for your time!!

Can only offer a bit of help on your questions but the Columbus docks at the Royal Mayan Marina in the southern Hotel Zone about a mile and three quarters south of the Barcelo Tucancun under normal conditions. Regarding the time, I'd go at five so you can watch the sunset on the lagoon towards the end of the trip,JMO and stop at the nearby Tragara Lounge upon docking for a few drinks overlooking the lagoon.

As to the speedboat jungle tour, just stay out of the water in the lagoon as far as snorkeling or swimming and you should be fine.

Hi BC,

My wife and I did the Columbus Lobster Dinner Ccruise about 5 years ago and it was excellent. They grill the steak and lobster on a grill right on the deck, which was good for pictures and aroma. You have the run of the boat and there was no limit on drinks. Just like your All-Inclusive vacation. As for mixing surf and turf,.... I don't know. But the lobster meal I had was very filling.

I would recommend the evening cruise as the sun is VERY hot on the lagoon side, (where the cruise takes place), if there is no breeze, which there wasn't when we went.

 Enjoy,

  Wad

We did the Lobster Dinner Cruise a couple of years ago. Semi-casual is fine. As per time, you didn't mention when you were going to be in Cancun. The advise about seeing the sunset is good, but sunset times vary as per season. The sunset over the lagoon is beautiful. When we went it was rather crowded so I wouldn't exactly call it romantic, but definitely a fun and different thing to do.

We did the lobster cruise on Sat., 4/22. Went on the early one, and got tremendous shots of the sunset. Although we just had the steak, which was remarkably good, most had "surf & turf". Drinks are unlimited, although hard to find on the way back after dinner.

One other word of advice - the crew announced that dinner was served, and ushered people into the enclosed area below deck, which was cramped and had no ventilation. We later found out that if we had stayed on deck, we would have been served there.

Overall, well worth the $$.

In addition to what everyone else has said, I would suggest the later cruise if you are looking for something romantic. Our initial reasoning was that also being from the east coast, we didn't want to eat so early, but we found that there was better reason for taking the later sailing. The later cruise was mainly couples. We were waiting to board when the early cruise came in and it was full of families with screaming kids and grandparents.

They say unlimited drinks, but it is impossible to get drunk. The drinks are small, weak, and infrequent.

Still all and all, I would say that it was a very nice night out. The food was very good and the setting was very romantic.

We did this cruise in July of 05 so I would guess that the sunset timing is close. When we returned from the early cruise, we tried to take a pic of the boat. It was so dark that the pic is nothing but black with only the boat lights showing.

i would think that you will be fine in dress shorts (as youare in most places in Cancun).

Also, be sure to head to the deck when you board. Once you are on board, it was not very easy to change places. We sat at the front of the boat. Although there were 4 couple seated together, we had a wonderful evening. We had excellent service and food.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the quick reply! Also was wondering if the heat was tolerable on the earlier cruise? Do you get a nice breeze, or any shade? Were there alot of children, or mostly adults? thanks again!!
