We chose to not go AI at the Omni as we would like to venture out and try the surrounding restaurants. Problem is, we're not sure if there ARE that many restaurants near the Omni. Just curious to see if anyone knows of any worthwhile ones to try out nearby. Thanks!

About a half Kilometer away is a wonderful restaurant called Laguna Grill. While there are a few fast food places nearby and Captain's Cove which I don't know when it is going to open for sure, there really aren't many choices that are in walking distance. While the hotel itself does have excellent food, I suggest that you not be concerned because there are many fantastic restaurants that are a short bus ride away.

Please name what types of cuisine you enjoy and you will get back several great suggestions soon.

Captains Cove is tentative November reopening.

While there's not much right near by, the nice thing is there's a bus stop right out infront of the hotel so it's easy to hop on and go to any of the many great restaurants in Cancun.

Yep. Nothing much within easy walking distance. My wife and I love to walk and we daily walk down to the Kulkakon (spelling) mall. Its 2 miles north on the strip. There are a couple restaurants along the way and a few in the mall.

Being that a bus ride is 6.5 pesos, its really a non-issue.

There are so many restaurants. Get a good map. I love the maps at http://www.cancunmap.com/ They cost $8 but are AWESOME.

While it is true that there aren't many restaurants within "walking distance" of the Omni (my "walking distance" varies with the heat and humidity), there is a McDonalds at the bottom of the hill, cross the street, to the left which also has two other fast food restaurants in the same little complex. Otherwise, everything is within 6.5 pesos and a maximum 10 minute bus ride up and down the hotel zone. If you want fast food, you've got it - Subway, KFC, McDonalds, etc. If you want Mexican, you've got that - Las Margaritas, Pericos, La Parrilla (to name a few). If you want excellent, romantic, you have that, too - Laguna Grill, Puerto Madera, La Dolce Vita, Lorenzillos. Everything you could want gastronomically is within a 10 minute bus ride. Buses run all the time up and down the boulevard right outside the hotels.

Go, be adventurous and have a blast. The Omni is gorgeous and a great resort. The restaurants in Cancun always make me wonder why people do Al Inclusive.......

Cheryl,

Because it's not practical to go to a restaurant every time I want a bottle of water :) I quite agree with you about the quality of the restaurants in Cancun and would encourage everyone to try them. However, if I want to stay at the Omni and they're going to charge me $3 for every bottle of water I have (never mind pina coladas), I still save money on the AI even if I eat out once or twice.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions! I stayed at the Flamingo last year and there were so many restaurants nearby, AI just seemed pointless. I was a little concerned when I booked at the Omni since it seemed all the resaurants were more towards the hotel zone...which we are not AS close to this year. But I have no problems with a short bus ride!

One more question: We purchased Brant's 2 for 1 card last year and it saved us a bundle on dining out. I checked out his website recently and it doesn't seem like the deals are as great. There aren't as many restaurants to choose from either. Is it still worth the $15??? Anyone know?

stratton,

I've never stayed AL. Does it really save you that much money over buying a six pack of pop and bottles of water at the grocery store? We usually stay at the Royals and the grocery store has reasonable prices so its' never crossed my mind. I've stayed at the Omni for a day or two here and there and really liked it. It's a gorgeous resort wtih good restaurants. I'm not being sarcastic. I just wonder.....what do you find is the break even point? Is it having several drinks and several bottles of water or what? I really haven't a clue!
