Omni Review |
|
I just knew this would happen. I just booked the Omni for a week, and the very next reviewer gives it one star and says that it's terrible. Up until now all the ones were 4 and 5 stars. Now I'm thinking about changing to another hotel. Can anyone tell me if it's really that bad? I thought the Omni was a great place, but not according to the last reviewer.. |
|
I don't know much about the Omni. What I do know is you CANNOT change hotels because of one bad review. There are some people who will never be happy, who will always find something to complain about. If your gut told you the Omni is for you, then stick with it, I've heard many positives about it. Look at it this way. TA members LOVE Golden Parnassus. But the place gets slammed with bad reviews here and there from people who just didn't do their research and didn't know what the place was all about. it's not that GP is a bad resort, it's that it was a bad resort for the people who expected it to be the Ritz. If they had researched the hotel, they would have decided it wasn't for them. Sometimes the bad reviews are people who feel stupid that they just booked a place that wasn't for them, and use TA to complain. If you did your research and decided Omni was the place you were looking for, don't change just because someone else didn't like it. If you keep second guessing yourself you will be miserable. Have a fab trip, I'm jealous!!!

danny...it appears it was just front desk related...nothing about the food, beach or resort itself...definitely don't change because of poor front desk service...might have been a mix of the customers and front desks attitudes

OK let me see if I can help. I just went and read the most recent negative reviews for the Omni. The first one is from someone who insists on comparing the Omni Cancun to the Omni in Houston, Texas and says the check-in is too slow and there's no wireless Internet in the rooms(heathens!) Also, this person got pigeonholed by a time-share person and didn't react well to that. The person does seem to have one legitimate gripe about the A/C not working her first night, but apparently was able to move to antoher room after that. I had the same problem recently in a hotel right here in the US - A/C units can break down anywhere. The next one is from soneone whose chief complaint seems to be that under the AI plan, she and her husband were FORCED to PRINT and SIGN their names every time they ordered a drink. Good God! As I recall, I merely had to give my room number and sign - don't recall having to print my name. She goes on to complain that there weren't a lot of special kids' choices on the menu like French Fries and mac & cheese, notwithstanding the fast food places right across the street from the hotel. Also, her room was humid (you're kidding? humidity in Cancun?) She does have some positive things to say about the pools and beach, but complains there's no nightlife at the Omni - no kidding, anyone could have told you that. The final one is from someone who claims to be a travel agent with 16,000 customers. So right away you know they were probably a colossal pain in the arse. Anyway, this person's main complaint is that despite being a travel expert, he or she apparently didn't bother to confirm the room request for non-smoking, king size beds. So of course the hotel had trouble honoring that at the last minute. A more legitimate gripe is the mention of plumbing problems in their rooms and the front desk not answering the phone. I do seem to recall the front desk takes a while to pick up the phone at night. I suspect that some of the complaints about service may stem from the fact that the desk staff at night may not have as strong a command of English as during the day. Now mind you, there are plenty of glowing 5-star reviews also posted of the Omni. My rule of thumb is - Expect that every hotel is going to have at least one or two bad reviews. Read them and decide if the things that are being complained about would be as big a problem for you as for the reviewer. If not, then unless the hotel seems to have more bad reviews than most comparable places, don't worry too much. When I stayed at the Omni, I recall having two minor issues - one with my room and one with the front desk. Neither was enough to offset the great service and excellent facilities I enjoyed.

I agree 100% with Shelbs. Don't change because of a bad review, especially when you did your research. I stayed at CPC and loved it even though many of the reviews are less than glowing. If you know what to expect, you will be fine. Have a great time!!!

We are members at the Omni. Whatever you want to know, shoot me an email at ericravery@yahoo.com. We have been there 7 times and love it. Going back in 39 days.

Thanks everybody for making me feel better. I know I'm just getting paranoid and that everything is gonna be great once we get down there. I'll just feel a lot better when another 5 star review shows up for the Omni.... Thanks again..

Danny, thanks for asking your question about the Omni. I was wondering about the negative reviews after so many positive ones. The replies make me feel much better about our upcoming stay at the Omni.
