Great Pictures Eric! Where were you in the pictures with the monkey, snakes, turtles, etc.? We will be at the Royal Islander in a few weeks and would love to walk over to the Omni for some drinks. Do they let people not staying at their hotel come over to their bar/pool area? Do they take cash/credit cards there or is it like the card system like the Royals? Thanks a ton!

maryse1228 - Its a great place! The hotels and all are at 30% occupancy because its the low season, the US economy is a little weak (sux in Michigan), and people have a perception that nothing is open. All major tourist attractions are open and many are better than ever after the rennovations. Las Isla shopping village is bigger now (they were working on expanding it). Its fully operational. Many of the big restaurants were gutted and fully remodeled. Its not Cancun at 30%....its the occupancy. Cancun's attractions are at 90%.

jan.d.smith - Omni will take cash. They dont care. The Jacuzzi bar is the place to go. I've walked over to several different resorts just to have a beer and check them out...not one has turned down my pesos! The pictures of the monkeys, snakes, etc is just before Puerto Morales in a Crocodile Zoo, If you travel south of the hotel zone, its maybe 15 minutes away. I think its simple called the Crocodile Zoo. You can take a cab for a few bucks. We did it through Joes Jeep Adventure. Its pretty cheap to get in.

Great! So if I was walking up from the beach how do I get to the jacuzzi bar? What do you recommend for drinks? do they have food there too? We never thought of going next door to try the bar out! We've used the exercise room but never thought of hanging out at the bar! Thanks!

jan.d.smith - There is a restaurant called Pina Colada. Have breakfast there.

$13 pp al you can eat with your feet in the sand...its great. Next to it is the Jacuzzi bar. Both are right on the beach. You really can't miss them.

Drinks, I like Blue Hawaiins and Tom/Tim Collins. They make pretty much anything.

--They will ask for a room number, just tell them you are checking out the Omni from next door and ask to pay in cash.

Did you book it online (Joe's Jeep) or did you do it when you got there? We have a group of 10 of us but don't know if everyone will want to do it. How were the Ruins ? Did you spend a lot of time there?

jan.d.smith - odd story actually. I was sitting in the Omni's lobby checking my email and fixing something for work and I decided to jump on Trip Advisor. I posted another thread that was entitled "Greetings from the Omni". After I posted the thread, I was approached my a man that asked me if I was on Trip Advisor. It just so happened that he was Joe from Joe's Jeep Adventure. He was on TA at the same time as me in the lobby. We were the only 2 in the lobbby! As it turns out, he is working at the Omni as a Sales Rep and running Joes Jeep Tours. I had told him that I had six people interested in going and he mentioned giving me a discount since it was a direct sale (no commisions paid.) He gave us a pretty good discount...I don't want to mention the actual price we paid cause I don't people printing this and saying I want that price or better.

I think Joe is from California if I remember correctly. Speaks perfect English if not. Call the Omni or call him directly from his website and ask for a discount. Tell him Eric Avery sent you to. He'll remember me. Or point him to this post.

The Ruins are in Cancun...its called Ruins del Rey. It's something you can do on your own but its the first thing you do. Its pretty small but still cool as it is in Cancun. Its in the lower part of the "7" or hotel zone if you will. If you really want ruins, Tulum or CI is the way to go.
