 Sky Auction

Has anyone booked a trip with this company? I am looking at the Ready Set Go! It will get me a stay at a hotel, and I have to pay the all-inclusive fee when we get there. Thanks!

We won a bid on Skyauction.com for a cruise in Fiji. We paid US$450 for a cabin upgrade and US$80 for transfers to and from the airport. Neither of these 2 services were given to us and upon our return, they ignored our e-mails claiming simply that they were “investigating our case”. This has already dragged on for 4 months and I don’t think we would ever hear from Skyauction again if we hadn’t gotten American Express involved, asking them to reimburse us. Even so, Skyauction’s claims are simply unbelievable, saying that we were given compensations like drink credits on the cruise. What a scam!!

We have successfully used Sky Auction a number of times and 2 times for cruises. We spent more to upgrade the room category and had no problems.

I am always careful about making sure I understand the costs, etc. when bidding. I always thought everything was pretty clear in their descriptions. I make copies of everything about the auction I won and my paid for expenses. That way I can prove what I am saying if anything goes wrong, but so far all has worked for us.

I am not familiar with the REady Set Go auction.

I always had good luck with them and when I had questions they did answer my emails.

Good luck and happy travels!

I've used Sky Auction with fantastic results and have gotten great deals. It IS all about knowing the fine print and factoring in those costs. I have yet to see a good price on a cruise because of the additional fees, but resorts have been good deals.

I even had to cancel a vacation and they rebooked me for free and at no additional charges when I rebooked for a higher priced seasonal stay - so I would say they were awesome for doing that when they could have charged me surcharges.

Also, they do feature one deal that is not good. Maybe it is the ready set go deal. But if you try to put in any dates, you repeatedly get the notice that nothing is available - so blind bids are not worth it. Book on a specific resort and the resort will honor it. Their reputation is also on the line.

Just know how high to bid before it is no longer a bargain. I have a chart all worked out. I also do not bid until the last five minutes. No sense in driving up the bids.

lazy gal, if you don't mind giving away some of your secrets, what kind of a chart system do you have?

Thanks, Tricia

I have been using them for seven years and never once had a problem. Again, I an very careful to read all the fine print. Sometimes prices can go higher than you would pay booking through other sites. I actually think Ready Set Go is great!! I paid $300 for a beachfront condo in the Bahamas last year and $350 at a ski resort during peak season.

The Home and Away special is the bad deal, beacuse if you click on the link to see what is available, you will find that nothing is available - ever.

Tricia - it's really a simple system I made up to make sure I don't lose track of what I am bidding for - a bargain.

I have a flow chart of bid increments I plan on using, with all the fees/surcharges added in. As soon as I place a higher bid, I know exacvtly what the final cost will be by looking at my chart. I also compare it to how much the resort would cost by booking it on my own.

Often you'll see a resort at $1 min. bid - but by the time you loook at the surcharges, only a fool would bid on the package at all. I notice some resorts have their min. bid locked in, say $40 - no sense in bidding too much higher, because they are already revealing their break even point.

Again, cruises are never a bargain on skyauction. I did see one slide through and it was immediately pulled.

New resorts use Sky Auction a lot to beef up sales - these are great deals. I thought there would be more offerings with the flu set-back, but resorts are lowering prices dramatically on their own.

Tricia, I re-read your post and I'm sorry about my cruise remark - hopefully you got a very good deal. Truthfully, I quit even looking at their cruises. Living in Florida I can find great deals locally - we can park and go on very short notice - that's where the real savings are.

I won 2 cruises recently only to be told all sails date unavailable. I booked the cruise based on their stipulated dates as soon as I won. Skyauction should have withdrawn the auction for these 2 cruises since they were no longer available when auction was still active. They did tried to compromised by offering me other cruises but I have to pay $300 more. If they have principal they should not ask for more monies when they are the one that screw up the auction deal. Maybe that's their tactics to make monies? I am having second thoughts!

Avoid this company if you can. There are other more reliable and honest travel deals on the internet.

I bought a 7 night stay with sky auction. and a 1 night stay.. leaving this Saturday for temptations and one night at secrets.. I made sure I got the numbers for both and e-mailed the resorts and made sure our reservations were in tact I have received replys that everything was in order.. I bought my air separately.. It was a good deal for us because we paid for the resort and then saved up and paid for the air. They do have good deals but like everyone said you have to read the fine print I was looking for a holiday package but the surcharges for the holiday dates plus the per person per night fee ect was way higher then you would pay... you have to know the going price from other sites before you bid ..
