We enjoyed our dinner at La Madonna in the La Isla Shopping Plaza. The decor is really strange, but nice. Gigantic statues, all around the main room and a painting of the Mona Lisa that takes up an entire wall. But after my initial thought that it was strange, I became comfortable with it. There are several intimate ables for two on the second floor in little terraces overlooking the main dining room, which I understand must be reserved in advance. If you are looking for something romantic, you might consider reserving one of these tables. The bread and olive oil for dipping were excellent. I had tomato soup and my girlfriend had lobster bisque. Both made and served beautifully. Entres were seafood, and both were good - nothing really outstanding. Wine was by the glass and a good Italian vintage. Dinner was somewhat expensive. Four glasses of wine and our dinners came to $130+. No complaints, but for Cancun, we thought it was somewhat expensive. Service was excellent, but may be due to the fact that we were somewhat early, and there was no crowd. We would go back.

I'm a tough grader. My husband runs a restaurant / entertainment business in Boston.
The fact that this is rated #46 in Cancun speaks well of the dining scene there.
This food was very good, service was excellent, and the atmosphere great. My young sons had a pizza and pasta pomodoro - both delicious. Adults had a spinach, pancetta, mushroom salad, seared tuna and pasta dish as well as lemon chicken with fresh spinach fettucini. All were great.
Additionally we had a fantastic, difficult to find wine, La Vendimia, from one of our favorite wine makers, Alvaro Palacios.

After seeing other reviews, we were looking forward to a high quality meal. The service and surroundings were good, but the entrees were very disappointing. We had the fetuccine with shrimp and it was drowning in a brownish sauce, not particularly appealing, with very few noodles ("slop" was a good description). The other entree we chose was a risotto that had local snapper and clams, but this turned out to be more like a soup with some rice on the bottom, not what most would think of as risotto. Wouldn't go back based on the main courses we selected.

Ate at La Madonna last Friday night with my husband on a recent trip to Puerto Morelos. Had eaten there 7 years earlier and was so impressed with the food and atmosphere that we had to return. Upscale establishment, but everyone was dressed casually.

Our waiter was attentive, pleasant and made great suggestions about the specials that night. The drinks were excellent. The tuna tartar was exceptional. I ordered the Tagliolini with truffles and cream sauce. My husband had Linguine with Vodka sauce, Lobster and Shrimp. Unbelievably good!

We topped off dinner with the Fresas Flameadas (Flaming Strawberries). Tableside cooking and presentation was incredible. The strawberry creation was poured over vanilla ice cream. Imagine the sauce inside a cobbler without the crust. Incredible!

Make it a stop on your next visit to Cancun. It is located in the La Isla shopping center. You won't be dissappointed.
