Stayed from 4/23-4/26. Went with some guys (ages 27-30) for a friends bachelor party.

Rooms: We stayed in a one bedroom villa. Ample space for the 3 of us in the room. There's a king sized bed in the bedroom and a queen sized sofa-bed in the living room. Plenty of towels. Washer and dryer proved to be very useful when we thought we wouldn't need it. Some rooms have laundry detergent while others don't. Kitchens have small appliances, glassware and silverware. The bed is soooo comfortable. I have a bad back and I felt wonderful after a nights sleep. I found out you can actually buy them online. It's something I'm considering. All rooms have an oceanview.

Pool and Beach: The waves at the beach were pretty rough all four days we were there but we only made use of the beach once during the midday and there were lifeguards. If you want to use their boogey boards they'll give you a strong hint that they'd like a tip. The 2 main pools are huge and both 4 feet deep. The temperature of the water really depends on how much sun the water gets. I went in the pool everyday and sometimes it's cold and sometimes it's warm. Sometimes one pool is warmer than the other. The are two hot tubs with one of them fully operational while the other has only half the jets working. The water slide is simple but fun. Makes you feel like a kid again. They also have a volleyball net in one of the pools.

Restaurants: I only ate at the resort once and it was for breakfast. It's $20 USD pp for a buffet style breakfast. The cooks will make you omelets, pancakes, hashbrowns, and other various breakfast foods. Breakfast ends at 11am.

Tour Desk: It is located outside by the bus stop. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful and patient with us as we booked our tours. We did an ATV/Waverunner one day and a Chichen Itza Tour the next. Both were a lot of fun and highly recommended.

Misc: They didn't charge us for wireless internet in the guestrooms and they also have 6 computers in the basement that have internet access. Closeby, you'll find the fitness center and ATM machine. Construction was a non-issue. You can hear it during the day but only when you're outside your room in the hallway. If you're on the other side and lounging by the pool you won't hear it at all.

Tips:
The actual exchange rate at the time was 13.1 pesos/1 USD. The hotel's exchange rate was 12.4 pesos/1 USD so it's not bad. La Isla mall across the street has an even worse exchange rate at their counter (11.2) so avoid it at all costs.

If you're staying in building 6 and leaving the resort take the elevator to the basement. It takes you right outside to the street level. It's a shorter walk with a much easier incline/decline. Trust me, after a long day of excursions and tours every step you don't have to take makes a lot of difference.

My overall experience at this resort was very enjoyable. I have no complaints except for the fact that they need more electrical outlets in the living room and bedroom. The only room with available outlets was the kitchen and bathroom. I would only recommend this resort for couples and families. The atmosphere isn't catered to spring breakers or the party going crowd. The reason we decided to stay there was because one of them works for Starwoods and got us very good rates.

My family stayed at the Westing Lagunamar from Friday April 10 to Friday April 17. This was our first time in Mexico/Cancun. We really had been looking forward to this trip as Lagunamar had run into a delay and we had to postpone our original stay planned for June 2008. We couldn't have been more pleased and satisfied. The acommodations were grand. The view spectacular. The staff highly professional and reliable. If you want a beautiful rest and wonderful food and want to go to Cancun, this is the place.

Just came back from Lagunamar - this resort is really new and still under construction which is not annoying. I will try to sort good vs bad points:

Good:
Location - if you like shopping
Service - very good - hotel staff is really trying to make your stay pleasurable
Pool - if you came to Mexico for that
Value - we stayed for 4 nights for 200 USD and were given 100 USD voucher towards our stay.
Breakfast buffet is pretty nice

Bad:
Hotel is really new and there is almost no vegetation vs a lot of concrete
Location and hotel building complex - the location + the way hotel is built creates a Wind Tunnel effect - there will be constant wind blowing plus the waves will never calm down - the red flags on the beach are permanent fixture. If you came to Mexico for the pool experience - then it's no issue, however the pool area is very open and this plus the constant wind will make you shiver.
Mall food across the street - the restaurants are just food court quality for 4 star pricing - the Thai lounge is a good example.

We just returned from Cancun and the Westin Lagunamar Resort. The hotel is still under construction in some sections, but that was never an issue. We never heard a thing. Unfortunately the swine flu outbreak occurred just as we were arriving so we ended up spending more time at the resort than we had originally planned.
The rooms are amazing - all studios, 1 & 2 bedrooms. We had a studio and it was very well appointed, Westin's heavenly bed, flat panel TV, Bose Wave Music System, small but very functional equipment, great bathroom, whirlpool tub and separate stand-up shower. All rooms have a sea-view and walk out patio. We ended up making breakfast in the room most mornings and ended up sitting on the patio enjoying the start of the day, which was really nice.
On the resort grounds, the pool is the centerpiece. The infinity pool runs right up to the beach so you have a great view of the sea as you swim in the pool. As the resort is new the landscaping around the grounds is still a bit young and small.
My only complaint with the resort was the food. It was average for the most part though I did enjoy the ceviche at the lunch joint. Drinks weren't very good either though no complaints about the margaritas. The service was always good. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Housekeeping did a great job in the room daily.
Overall a very enjoyable stay and i would return to this resort.
