Went in June 2009 and the hotel is beautiful. It was only about 10% occupied which was nice we didn't have crowds. The pool was great, the food was good but the service was not so great.
When we booked the hotel, they were offering that kids eat free. It also stipulated that it was kids under the age of 17 who ate off the kids menu when an adult ate off the regular menu. Well, this was a battle all week. When we arrived, they said we got 15% off our meals in the hotel restaurants. This was true the first couple of days, then all of the sudden it either no discount or 10%. Everytime we ate and the kids ate with us, they charged us for the kids. I had to argue with the waiter each time which took up to 20 minutes going back and forth.
We finally went to the front desk to complain about the kids being charged. The guy behind the counter first said "It is only for children under 12 years old." To which I made him pull out our reservation that I had to present at the desk when we checked in. This was his response "Well, Sir, children's ages in Mexico are calculated different than U.S. ages." to which I replied "What did you just say?!" I was appauled that he would even try to feed me that crap. I began to get upset and he realized that his ploy wasn't going to work. We asked for the manager and gave him the once over that if we had one more issue with our bill in the restaurants, we would eat out the rest of the trip. He assured us that everything would be correct from this point on and it was. Just sad that you have to throw such a fit to get things right. It was like they never heard of the "Kids eat free" promotion they advertise.
Once everything was settled there, the rest of the trip was great. I would recommend it again, but bring all of your documentaton on your perks.
We did have issues with the room, such as electrical outlets not working, A/C wasn't very cold, balcony door wouldn't lock, but when we called about them, they were quickly repaired. We didn't complain about the bed, but it was worn out! I slept in a hole. I'm sure they would have replaced it had I complained, but I was tired of complaining.

The hotel was in a great location. We wanted to stay away from downtown Cancun and the party zone. The beach was alright... didn't spend too much time at the hotel's beach the waves were just too rough to swim in. The room was nice, although they put us on the Sun Tower side where the GRADWEEK kids were. Had to complain a couple of times due to loud party. Eventhough we bought our hotel room at discounted rate, and the hotel wasn't full at all... they should have accomodated us and move us up to the higher floor or on the different side. We are not honeymooners but we were on our wedding anniversary trip. Most staff were very friendly, many didn't speak English well so it was challenging when communicate. The bed was horrible just like anyone else said. I like stiff bed but their bed was giving me backache everyday. It was interesting to see that they don't have a fridge in the room. Strictly wanted us to buy their stuff in the hotel. We didn't have an ice bucket or anything either. If you're staying on the bottom floor, DO NOT leave the sliding door open!! The security guy will come knocking on your door to make sure nobody had broken into your room. They asked for our room number when we came back to our hotel at night, and that was very annoying. We're thinking they do that so kids from other hotel doesn't come party at theirs. We really liked the pools... fun to swim in and relaxing. The food was just okay, not up to 4 stars hotel standard in my opinion. We were in Playa Del Carmen, Downtown Cancun, and Cozumel most of the time. The food was much better and cheaper! I wouldn't stay here again though... it didn't impress me. I'm glad we didn't pay full price although we had a great time on our own! PS/ do not buy any excursion at the hotel because they are extremely overprice. We found ours once on location and at ADO bus station to go to Xcaret. It was cheap and definitely a fun adventure.

We enjoyed our hotel, we had no problem with our service. although we did prefer to eat inside the city instead of at the resort (the food was better tasting and priced). The pool was great. There wasn't a lot of beach and the waves were rough, this was probably because we visited in late August (close to hurricane season). I would visit this hotel again.

We come to Cancun regularly. Right now the hotel is empty, presumably because of flu fears. This morning not a sould was anywhere around any of the pools at 11am. Last night the room service guy said there had only been six calls for room service the entire day! Nonetheless we did not get upgraded. However the standard room was nice and very spacious. We have a view of the lagoon, not the ocean. But that is OK, because we are very convenient to the lobby and the pools.

When we arrived, they took our luggage and valeted the car, and everybody was very gracious. As we were checking in some other employee started explaining about the discount card they offer. We didnt want to deal with it then, and we were not going to be n property for a few hours anyway, so we told him we would get it later. That night we were exhausted, and another lady bothered us about the card. We agreed to get it the next morning. The next morning they called my room about 9am to check if we got the card. So when I went down I got the card. There was no presentation or anything, just giv your name and they give the card. It only offers small discounts, but I just wanted them to stop bothering me to get it. Of course then later I was approached about excursions. I think it is mostly a symptom of there not being enough guests to focus on.

It seems that people are spending most of the time standing around waiting because there is nothing to do. Several times it was very apparent that workers started to clean something when they saw I was there. Of course, if they didnt do that I would have just assumed that there job was to jut stand around anyway.

My husband commented that although the place was pretty the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral really made him feel special. I did remind him that we spend 5 times as much at that hotel (granted it was high season went we went ther (Christmas eve) not flu scare season)

Business center was closed, but you could use PCs by the concierge. Cost is 40 pesos for half hour. In town it is 10 pesos per hour, but it isnt worth making a special trip to town to do that.

All in all I think the pool and oceacn are beautiful, and the room very nice, and the price a steal! I would recommend it.

For us the location is a disadvantage because we go into town every day, and it is quite far down the beach. But you need to be in this section to have the brilliant blue water!

This review is a little late, but we had a great time at the hotel so I definitely wanted to share. My wife took me to Cancun for my birthday at the end of March and we stayed at the Fiesta American. She was a little skeptical about staying there based on some of the negative reviews, but I had always wanted to stay at the hotel due to its unique style. We had a great time at the hotel. A fabulous breakfast buffet (with champagne and vodka) was included every morning. The drinks were reasonable and the bar staff at the pool was top notch! Also finding a chair near the pool or near the beach was never a problem.

The room itself was well appointed though the bathroom was a little small. Many reviews have noted that the beds are firm and they are, but not uncomfortable. Also the AC does not get as cool as we like it in the US, but the room was never balmy.

The staff was friendly and our room was always cleaned promptly. Encountered no problems whatsoever with the front desk staff either. However, as mentioned previously the guys at the pool bar went above and beyond!

There is a beach (though it is still eroded from the Hurricane) and swimming was possible while we were there in March. The hotel is not far from La Isla and many fine restaurants. We ate at La Distilleria and Ruth Chris and had excellent meals at both places. The hotel is probably a 15 min. ride from dowtown and access is very easy via the busline.
