my family and i just returned from grand coral beach cancun. we were a party of 14 adults and children. we have pretty high standards and like very nice hotels. we feel this hotel deserves it's 5 star/diamond rating. it is very elegant, clean and manicured inside and out. the pool is georgous, very clean and goes on forever ( just a little warm, my husband likes a cooler pool). the beach has very white sand and the water is clear and a very pretty color. the bottom is soft and sandy but there is some coral that you can walk into if your not careful, which is also good for snorkeling. the water is not flat, it is a bit wavy but not strong current that you would need to be concerned for your kids.
we ate mostly in the hotel zone restaurants except for breakfast which we had the buffet in the hotel and lunch at the pool bars. the breakfast buffet is delicious but 12 and over cost $25.00 p.p. which adds up after a week.
our kids are ages 10-16 so we didnt experience the kids club. it would have been nice if they had a teen club or disco since there was really nothing for them to do except go to the pool and beach.
oh, i read some neg. reviews on the beds being uncomfortable. we loved them! yes, they are hard but we all agree that we never slept so well as we did on these mattresses.
the maids were so sweet and do such a nice job, everyone was very accomodating. we would definitly go back and stay here again. the rest. we ate in were: carlos and charlies, marguaritaville, la dolce vita, ruth chris steak house, mokado japanese (so,so food). they were outstanding and noone got sick...
hope this helps, enjoy!

I stayed at the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Jul 28-31. The hotel was nice and a in a great location for shopping and nightlife. We had a total a 3 ladies traveling and had requested a rolloway before arriving. Upon arrival they had us booked in a king and showed no request for rollaway. Finally they gave us our double bedded room around 330p and by 800p there still was no rolloway. We finally received it about 10p after two more phone calls.

The only other disappointed was with housekeeping giving us "rinsed out" glasses every day. We also had problem with our rate when we checked out...but thankfully we had the fax from the hotel with the rate on it.

Food was average and drinks were expensive. Pool and beach are nice..but get there early if you need a shaded spot..since they have no umbrellas in the pool area.

Overall, a nice place,great location...but certainly not a 5 star hotel.

We just came back from a two week vacation at Cancun. The first week we stayed at Fiesta Grand Coral, the 2nd week at JW Marriot. The service at both hotels was good, but at Fiesta it was just great. The food was also much better at Fiesta.

If you like to be around the pool, the Fiesta has a much better pool. The pools are bigger, you can do a lot of activities, and each pool has it own bar/grill. The beach is more good for snorkling and drifing. Vs at Marriot the waves are much better and more suited for surfboarding. The pool is beautiful, however the only thing you can do in it is just to move around.

The Fiesta Grand Coral is close to the night life and disco's. You can just walk to them. VS at Marriot you have to take the bus or Taxi.

If you sign up online at Fiest Reward program, you get 10% discount on your food bill and also kids eat free. You also get one hour of free internet use per day and one free pot of coffee per day in your room. If you like American Coffee like Maxwell house, you better bring it. The coffee in Cancun is very strong.

I read in previous reviews that food was expensive, etc. However considering the quality and the level of service that is provided I thought it was quite reasonable. We ate all different kinds of food there from burgers, to Fajitas, to Pizza, to seafood, to fruit salad, to salad bar, to Mexican food, and all sort of desserts. They were all Excellent. I own three restaurants, so I know a thing or two about food taste and quality.

The rooms in Fiesta are bigger since they are all suites. The only negative which could be a big one for some people is that the beds in Fiesta are very very very firm. So if you need a pillowtop mattress to go to sleep you definitely need to reconsider. The Marriot beds on the other hand have a pillow top cover which looked like it could be removed if you don't like that.

If you like to excercise, JW offers free gym. At Fiesta you have to pay $8 per day to use the gym. I used the spa services at Marriott and got a swedish massage. The spa is immaculate and very top notch. They make you feel like a royalty. The massage was good but not exceptional. If you like to save money on your Spa, book it before 10 AM and you get 15% discount .

If you are worried about the effect of Hurricane Emily, Don't. In Cancun everything is working and you probably wouldn't even notice that a Cat 4 Hurricane had passed by.

One other thing, if you like to order food to be delivered to your room like Dominoz pizza, chinese, etc you can not do that at Fiesta. However you can order delivery at JW Marriot. The only thing I suggest is don't order Chinese food in Cancun, it is not Chinese food. Let me just say this, in two weeks, I never saw anybody from China anywhere in Cancun!!

One last thing, bring lots of $1 bills. This way you can tip everybody and take the bus to everywhere and not have to come home with a pocket full of pesos.

Hope this helps, Enjoy your trip.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights with my partner and it more than lived up to our expectations. The ocean front junior suite we got was on the 9th floor and every morning we couldnt wait to draw back the curtains for that view- it was amazing. I loved to watch the pelicans diving into the gorgious turquoise sea- every bit as beautiful as you see on the postcards.
We didnt like having to pay for making our own coffee in our room though, I thought that should have been complementary.
Every meal, snack and drink I tasted from the hotel was made to perfection. I would definately recommend the ceviches from the pool bar which were fresh seafood cooked by the acidity of the lemon juice- heaven!
We ate in Le basilic and La Joya both were fantastic and not overpriced. The entertainment in La Joya enhanced the dining experience firstly mariachi then two lady singers with their guitars.
We found all of the staff to be friendly and helpful. In particular the concierge who could not do enough for us.
We both enjoyed a wonderful stay here.

I've stayed at a lot of 5 star hotels. This is only one of 2 five star hotels in Cancun. I read a lot of reviews and I had to choose between Grand Aqua, Coral Beach and the Ritz. If I had to do it all over again I'd choose the Ritz. Coral Beach is a beautifull all suite hotel. The online pictures don't capture it's beauty; in fact I was afraid the hotel would be a dump when I looked at the pics online. The hotel and rooms are nice and spacious.

There are only two cool areas to stay in Cancun. The Club/resturant/entertainment zone and the snobbish shopping zone. Coral Beach is located in the club, etc zone. If your main goal in Cancun is to party or walk everywhere stay at Coral beach (though Cancun's mass transit system is the best in the world! ave wait time for a bus 2 min). If you just want peace and to shop at very upscale shops stay at the Ritz or Aqua (stunningly beautiful hotel, but I keep on reading bad reviews). If you stay at Coral Beach, stay on the club level!!!!! why? because the finger food is good and the alcohol flows freely (well worth the extra money). The servive was ok, but not exceptional (the Ritz has amazing service.....eat at the grill if you really want an amazing experiance). The hotel has maid and turn down service. Don't use the service desk for tours, instead use the conceige. The service desk is rented out to travel companies (how tacky for a 5 star hotel) and they will rip you off. The beach is severely eroded, but the water is calm (plus most people lay by the pool....and if you feel the need to go in the water, sand is not required). The pool is large and the chairs are adequate.

Side point: A 5 star hotel gains it's points through service and little things. I don't know how the rooms are at the Ritz, but I assume they are comparable to Coral Beach. My experiance in Mexico was less than stellar, but the Ritz's staff hit a home run with me. I made reservations at their resturant on the last day of my trip. (1) The Ritz is totally fenced in (Coral Beach anyone can get on the property) (2) The Ritz has a guard to let you up to the front of the hotel (Coral Beach - no (3) The Ritz is smaller (Coral Beach catters to large groups) (4) The Grill resturant (1 of 2 5 star on the island) has live music and an amazing servers (5) If you travel with a female they will recieve a rose and a box of chocolates (nuff said).

Would I stay at Coral Beach again on the club level again? yes
Where will I stay during my next visti to Cancun? Ritz Carlton
