Caveat: our recent stay was during the height of the flu problem, when occupancy was very low.
We stay in the Club level, which is well worth the extra if you enjoy your peace and quiet, as well as appreciate NOT feeling like you're in a giant faceless resort.
Nevertheless, the reduced staff and facilities open did not do much to diminish our opinion of this establishment. The rooms were impeccably clean and well-appointed as always. Although Fantino & Club Grill were both closed, our dining experiences at the Caribe Grill was very good. Service being unimpaired and the food itself very good.
The morning after our arrival, there was a machine noise coming from above us. Management moved us into the master suite immediately when they could not figure out the source of the noise. The suite is similarly appointed as the rooms, only with a separate sitting area and more space. The separate sitting area has a connecting door, but as the bedroom is also separated from the sitting area by a door, there is no worry that noisy neighbors might intrude upon your peace.
The highlight of the stay was the extra effort the staff made to help celebrate a birthday. On their own initiative, the Caribe grill staff set up a seating area on the beach for the birthday dinner. While we cannot say for sure they would have done this had occupancy not been low, based on previous experiences here, we have come to expect the staff here to go the extra mile.
That being said, that is also why we were disappointed to only learn of the restaurants being closed upon arrival. We would have expected a heads up as our stay approached, especially since they normally contact upcoming guests to confirm arrival times and transport needs.
