Check in:
We arrived at Dreams before noon. We were originally booked for supersaver room, but I asked for a room 3rd floor or above in hopes to have a little bit of an ocean view. I was told only 1st floor was available. Since it was early, I asked if something might come available. Jorge said come back at 3pm and he might have something. Came back at 2pm to check and he told me he had a room for us in the TOWER!!! Just goes to show, a little politeness and patience go a long way! Also you don’t ask, you don’t get!!!
Our room had the most fabulous ocean view! Every room in the tower has a fabulous view. I didn’t find the room dated like many people have stated. It was very clean and well maintained. They restocked our fridge everyday and we had maid service 2x a day. Everyone was so accommodating. Our luggage arrived and off we went to the beach.
Beaches:
Dreams has 2 beautiful beaches. The tower side has waves, but not as rough as further south on the strip. The beach on the pyramid side is calm with a rock climbing wall.
Pools:
The most unimpressive thing about Dreams were the pools. The small pool on the tower side was nice because you can sit along the side and relax. The other pool was very active and a lot of people smoking in the pool turned me off. I actually preferred the small pool.
We saw about 9 weddings that week. They really do a nice job and it did not interfere with our stay in the least. Actually the kids enjoyed watching them from the balcony in the evening.
Dining
The restaurants were mostly good, with Himitsu being exceptional. I usually don’t care for buffets , but World Café had a nice variety and the food looked fresh. All the ala carte restaurants are ocean side dining with gorgeous views. We ate at Seaside grill for lunch a couple times, but you must be 18 for dinner. 2 nights, they offered theme dining in the lagoon area with shows. We skipped the Caribbean themed meal, but caught the live show afterward. We did the Mexican theme. The food was decent, but a little crazy at the buffet.
Shows and entertainment
We went to most of the shows. The hypnotist was very entertaining and the kids had fun doing karaoke. The 70s and 80s show was a bit cheesy. The outdoor entertainment was fun and we always found lively activity at the resort, either an acoustic singer in the lobby, or music out at the lagoon near the swing bar at night. During the day there were lots of activities if you choose to participate. Kids liked the salsa lessons. My daughters loved the entertainment staff! They really made sure they were having fun!
They also have a bungee trampoline for the kids, which, many seemed to like, but mine were not crazy about. We also took advantage of the excellent location and walked around punta cancun.
My husband played in a Texas holdem tourney at Dreams and won us a 25 minute couples massage. He didn’t take his, but I took full advantage. I have to say it was one of the best massages I ever had! I wish it was longer! The spa is really nice!
I just want to mention a great excursion is the Selvatica tour with ziplining and swimming in the cenote. I’ll post a review for them as well.
Service:
A few things I want to mention…Someone posted in a review that the management was horrible. This couldn’t have been further from the truth for us. They gave us anything we asked for and more. They were always there offering us another drink, pulling out a chair for us, sweeping up a broken soda bottle in our room at a moments notice. Our room was always spotless! The reviewer also mentioned that the restaurants are closed during the theme nights. That is also not true. They have the theme buffets in the lagoon area, but the other restaurants are also open. All in all a great vacation!
