We went to the Dreams for our honeymoon between 6/15-6/21. We are both in our late 20’s and weren’t looking for a spring break type hotel which this wasn’t.
The Hotel/Room: The hotel was always very clean and it was large enough to feel like you can relax by yourself. The room was nothing more than a typical hotel room with a great view. We over looked the dolphins and every morning was treat to see them playing and swimming with each other.
The Staff: Most the reviews that I read people seemed to agree that the staff made an effort to remember guests by name and make their stay extra pleasant. We did not experience this. Even though we tipped we didn’t feel like more than just an average guest 99% of the time. I will make a point that every staff member was polite and never did anything to lessen the experience. Maybe I was just expecting more based on reviews. The consigner did have a birthday cake delivered up to our room after I asked for it the night of my wife’s birthday which was awesome.
The Entertainment Staff: This was the best part of the hotel experience. They always had events planned and we defiantly took advantage. The bike ride tour and volleyball were our highlights.
The Food: The sushi bar and seaside grill were always great. We made a point to eat dinner at both places more than once on our trip. The world café is a buffet with a few decent options every meal. Don’t go expecting A+ food, but it was defiantly good enough for breakfast and lunch.
The Bars: My only two complaints were that their choices of alcohol were limited to bottom shelf brands and the bartenders were slow/overwhelmed most of the time. However, it is Mexico and we were on vacation, it’s not like we were in a hurry.
Location: Great Location, the beaches were a little small but the hotel was in walking distance to the clubs/shopping. We never used a bus or a taxi to get around. However, if you want to go to Margaritaville or Bubba Gump you probably should catch a bus/taxi.
Spa: On my wife’s birthday she went to the spa for a hot stone massage. I can’t review this first hand, but she did enjoy it.
Pool: Small. We only went in one time. It’s where most the kids spent their days. Stick to the beach and you will be fine.
The Dolphin Swim: The experience was fun but too short. The dolphins are well taken care of and the staff was very nice. They try to sell you pictures at the end $25/ea and $144 for the set. A bit of a rip off if you ask me, we didn’t buy.
Where the Hotel Missed: My biggest disappointment was that I had called five days prior our trip to make sure that they had us down as honeymooners which they confirmed. When we checked in we were escorted past numerous rooms with a “honeymooners” banner on the door. However we did not have one on our door which put a bit of a damper on the vacation from the start. It took me hounding the consigner for two days until they finally set us up with the banner and a decorated hotel room. Also, I guess we checked in at the wrong time since we weren’t offered a hot towel and cookies as mentioned in other reviews. 4:30 pm = too late?
