Just got back from my stay 6/10/09 -6/15/09 and had a great time. Weather was great. This was my first trip as a solo traveler and at no time did I feel uneasy. The staff were great, especially Carlos at the pool bar. I read the other reviews about the high schoolers being rude and I agree they were a bit loud, foul languge, etc. but, you can't choose who stays at your hotel! They were only hanging around the pool bar one afternoon and not for more than an hour or two. The hotel was at about 1/5th occupancy.
My room was spacious but the bathroom shower was cramped. I had a slight maintenance need , called it in and someone was dispatched to fix the problem within 10 minutes.
Pay attention.....If you want the free breakfast buffet and free evening cocktail reception you must be booked in the Royal Club. I was surprised by this thinking it would be free for me but it was not included in my Orbitz deal. The food and drink rates were reasonable. The evening reception is from 5:30 - 7:30 and is only $10.00 (US) and from 6-7 you get two for one drinks (my great Chardonnay was $7.50 for two). The pools were warm the ocean was sandy and clean and the beach view from the hotel was of the entire Cancun strip. You can literally see and walk for miles! Downtown Cancun is available by bus for 750 pesos (like 75 cents.) You can catch it right at the bottonm of the hotel driveway and they run all night. Downtown is jumping! The people were all very friendly. I have stayed in Playa Del Carmen and PlayaCar many times before and always shunned Cancun thinking it would be honkey tonk but and now planning my next trip to Cancun. See you there! PS; of the 5 hotels I have stayed at south in the "Playa" area, all of the had that mildewy smell at about a level 6-7 out of 10, the Westin however came in at about 1.5 out of 10 great job!

This was our second trip back to Cancun. We booked through Expedia two rooms w/ king beds with balconies in the Royal Beach Club. Did not have rooms w/ king beds when we arrived! Wonderful Manager "Martin" apologized and told us expedia hadn't guarranteed the king beds. After 1 hour on the phone with expedia, Martin gave us a the king bedroom we had booked and even upgraded the other room for my sister-in-law to the junior suite! He was very helpful. We stayed in the RBC room and what a view! Although the shower was a very small square (could barely shave legs) and the pillow cases smelled a little like mildew, the room was standard but clean.
The best part was the breakfast buffet we got upgraded to because the continental breakfast wasn't offered due to few rooms booked in the RBC. Very nice way to start the day. Could not say enough about Carlos the pool bartender. Nice, fun and new us by name after day 1. The ocean water was prefect! Not many waves. The pool temp was like bath water too.
Quiet location, only a fast 15-20 min. buses ride to shopping. 7 1/2 pesos. Make sure you have right amount. (makes it easier on drivers.) Everyone in Cancun was so nice and fun. The only problem was with disrespectful high school kids.
Skip ALL the chain restuarants! Visit Los Aluxes bar (in El Parador hotel) on the way to walmart.(out of the resort area) BEST deal for your drinks and we made such good friends that work there over the years that they know us by name when we visit annually! GREAT GUYS!! Cancun has the friendliest people and we've ALWAYS felt safe.
Go on the Jungle Tour in the little boats. You drive through the mangroves and snokel at a great reef area.Well worth the money. Stay AWAY from Xcaret. Very long ride,all day trip and cheesey. Eat at Silk in the ME Hotel and eat at what used to be called Maria Bonitas. Very authentic and fun. It's on the water at the tip of the 7.

We travel to Cancun every year just for the beach, and here you will find it very beautiful you can swim in the water without getting cut by rock and the waves are more gentle. Upgrade to the Beach Club with Ocean front view you will not be disappointed the rooms are very nice and also breakfast and happy hour is included in the price.

My sister and I spent five nights in the Westin (5/22/09-5/26/09) and found it to be a lovely hotel. We stayed in the Royal Beach Club, room 2515. The room was on the 5th floor and had an ocean view. The Westin isn't a Four Seasons or one of the more spectacular Aman resorts but it is quite nice and I would happily return.

Our views were beautiful, the room was very nice and of course the Westin Beds are wonderfully comfortable. The Royal Beach Club offers guests breakfast and a cocktail party from 5:30pm-7:30pm The breakfast buffet was large, well run and had something for everyone. The evening cocktails and snacks were readily available but the food was essentially junk (fried snacks, nachos, etc). The Sea and Stones restaurant was quite good and a bit of fun as you can cook your food on a hot stone.

This was my third trip to Cancun and the only time I have actually enjoyed my stay. I attribute my enjoyable trip to the Westin and its secluded location.
