We have just returned from Club Med Cancun (March 18th 2007 after a 7 day stay) and after using Trip Advisor many times to choose Hotels/Resorts and not contributing I thought it was time to do so.
If your expecting a grand lobby and initial presentation you will be disappointed. Clean and functional is what I would describe the lobby. Upon our arrival the Reception manager greeted us at our van and acknowleged that my partners luggage hadn't arrived in Cacun.
Nice touch. A swift check in (only our party of 5 to check in at this time) and escorted by a member of the front desk to our rooms.
Ok the rooms aren't what we expected. We were in the Jade building (suppose to be an upgrade) and one of the two rooms were ocean front but fairly small. Note that the bathrooms don't have ventalation fans or windows so lots of moisture is created by taking a shower. Steamy mirrors and wet floor.
Lots of Hot water and the rooms are clean to a Ok state.
Not spotless by any stretch of the imagation but acceptable. ( I'm fussy) Reasonable closest space, Safe in the room and a small fridge with soft drinks and beer.
Now the good side. There are two Restaurants, one buffet and one Specality. We only ate in the Buffet Restuarant and the food was the best food that I have had at a Buffet regardless of it being at an All Inclusive Resort or otherwise. I have been to many 4.5+ star resorts and the food is way beyond those.
It was great that thr Buffet Restaurant had many different rooms to eat in all facing the Buffet so that you didn't feel like you were eating at the same place every night.
The GOs are amazing. Very friendly and helpful.
If you think that you will be acknowkeged by the rest of the staff walking around the grounds this will not happen.
Very rarely did anyone other than the GOs say good morning or even look at you with a smile other than when they were on duty.
This is the only all inclusive resort that I have been to (10 so far) that the bar service has been consistantly so good. Rarely had I had to wait for more than a couple of minutes for a drink and all the beeer and liquor are premium brands. The Wine is ok but again better than most resorts. Glass glasses are used in the bars. Reasonably large (10 Oz. or more ) disposible plastic glasses are used for outdoor service.
Nice pool with average seating.
The beach is very nice white sand running from the resort for many kilometers. There is always something going on at the Resort. Water areobics, dance lessons, Pilates etc. all day long.
You can be as active or laid back as you like.
There is a Trapeze which we didn't attempt, Tennis courts, snorkeling, sailing, water skiing on a lagoon using proper ski boats etc. We has a 8 yr old and the Mini Club was a hit with him. So go for the service, food etc. but don't expect Great rooms.
So far I haven't gone to the same resort twice but if I was going to go to one this would be it.
