We have just returned from Club Med Cancun (March 18th 2007 after a 7 day stay) and after using Trip Advisor many times to choose Hotels/Resorts and not contributing I thought it was time to do so.
If your expecting a grand lobby and initial presentation you will be disappointed. Clean and functional is what I would describe the lobby. Upon our arrival the Reception manager greeted us at our van and acknowleged that my partners luggage hadn't arrived in Cacun.
Nice touch. A swift check in (only our party of 5 to check in at this time) and escorted by a member of the front desk to our rooms.
Ok the rooms aren't what we expected. We were in the Jade building (suppose to be an upgrade) and one of the two rooms were ocean front but fairly small. Note that the bathrooms don't have ventalation fans or windows so lots of moisture is created by taking a shower. Steamy mirrors and wet floor.
Lots of Hot water and the rooms are clean to a Ok state.
Not spotless by any stretch of the imagation but acceptable. ( I'm fussy) Reasonable closest space, Safe in the room and a small fridge with soft drinks and beer.
Now the good side. There are two Restaurants, one buffet and one Specality. We only ate in the Buffet Restuarant and the food was the best food that I have had at a Buffet regardless of it being at an All Inclusive Resort or otherwise. I have been to many 4.5+ star resorts and the food is way beyond those.
It was great that thr Buffet Restaurant had many different rooms to eat in all facing the Buffet so that you didn't feel like you were eating at the same place every night.
The GOs are amazing. Very friendly and helpful.
If you think that you will be acknowkeged by the rest of the staff walking around the grounds this will not happen.
Very rarely did anyone other than the GOs say good morning or even look at you with a smile other than when they were on duty.
This is the only all inclusive resort that I have been to (10 so far) that the bar service has been consistantly so good. Rarely had I had to wait for more than a couple of minutes for a drink and all the beeer and liquor are premium brands. The Wine is ok but again better than most resorts. Glass glasses are used in the bars. Reasonably large (10 Oz. or more ) disposible plastic glasses are used for outdoor service.
Nice pool with average seating.
The beach is very nice white sand running from the resort for many kilometers. There is always something going on at the Resort. Water areobics, dance lessons, Pilates etc. all day long.
You can be as active or laid back as you like.
There is a Trapeze which we didn't attempt, Tennis courts, snorkeling, sailing, water skiing on a lagoon using proper ski boats etc. We has a 8 yr old and the Mini Club was a hit with him. So go for the service, food etc. but don't expect Great rooms.
So far I haven't gone to the same resort twice but if I was going to go to one this would be it.

Just returned from March Break with 10 & 7 year old daughters. For the price, it was less than we expected. We had adjoining rooms with the girls. The beds were very comfortable but the rooms were always damp. Their TV did not work and did not get fixed even though we called the first day of our stay. The beach was beautiful and probably the best part. Food was ok. Several of the reception staff were not at all helpful - they were generally nice but could not help us with some simple things (i.e. how can we find out if our plane is leaving on time 1-800 numbers don't work in Mexico) For a Club Med price, we expected more.

We stayed at Club Med Cancun the week of February 11-18 with 2 adults and 3 teenagers (12,14,15). This is our second Club Med and we loved it. The G.O.s are fabulous. We want to say thanks especially to Marc, James, Lucas and Julie. They entertained the kids through sports, activities and lots of laughter for the whole week. They with our children from 9:30 AM until 9:30 PM daily and they never wanted to leave. There were many activities from Snorkeling to Windsurfing to Trapeze and playing games at the pool and ocean and many more. The food was amazing! We had 2 adjoining rooms that were very clean, spacious, and beautiful. The location of this Club Med is great with with the ocean on 3 sides and the lagoon for waterskiing on the other side. Compared to other all inclusives you cannot beat club med for their food and activities. The G.O.s are wonderful young people that always keep you entertained. Overall Club Med Cancun is spectacular.

We stayed here in late January 2007 and really enjoyed ourselves. We'd never been to Club Med before and frankly, we were a bit reluctant. I was worried that we'd be trapped with bad food with no options. But I was pleasantly surprised. We booked our own flights.

The resort is pretty, having been renovated recently. It's hip. It has a good pool and a nice swimmable-beach, although i have to confess to not wanting to go in in late January when I thought it was a bit cool. But my husband loved the water and thought it was a good temperature for swimming.

There is one main restaurant and one smaller one that you reserve to eat at. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were served at the main one (lunch and dinner at the reservations-req one) with sumptuous buffets of everything you could possibly want. For example, at dinner you could choose from salads, fish, and meat entrees, with a whole 'bland' food area with pizza, pasta and food that was more applicable for children, or picky eaters! The wine served at lunch and dinner was a so-so -- it's all included, so you can imagine they wouldn't want to serve 1949 Rothschild but more pedestrian wine.

We worked out in the gym everyday which was very good, not huge but perfectly adequate for trying to stave off the effects of such good food... There are lots of sports options for people who are interested in doing more stuff.

The kid club was pretty great for our 4 year-old, but since he is a reserved kid he had some trouble getting into it. However, by the end he was loving it and the staff there were really dedicated and great, they really seemed to establish a great rapport with him. They have loads of different things to do including trapeze and circus, but my son was too hesitant to do that.

The ONE downside was that I thought the room, while beautifully decorated, was a touch damp. Just a touch. It could have been our room only, or maybe I'm more sensitive. Some of the rooms are in buildings that are built over a lagoon. some of the rooms are on the land and so they may not suffer from this, I have to emphasize though that this might be a personal thing, not shared by someone else. It's a tropical climate after all. the bathroom was really nice and had a great shower, the bed very comfortable, and the pull-out that my son slept on was really nice too. The beds have great halogen reading lamps that allow you to stay up long after your kid has gone to bed and read, without disturbing anyone.

“This was the best”

Club Med Cancun Yucatan

We've just returned from President's Week break at the resort; Dad, 14yo girl, 12yo son--and it was a grand slam homerun. The resort is beautiful, the food fantastic, and the staff attentive and helpful. Although the resort was full, the property has been designed such that you never feel crowded. We never waited in a line of any sort, even at meals. Having been to several family all-inclusive resorts, this one clearly stands above the others. Interestingly, the age group that is typically the most cynical and difficult to please--the teens--were the happiest of all. And I can't tell you what a positive "vacation changer" that is. My teenage daughter found friends from around the world, and they spent their time day and night with each other. Most importantly, they were supervised by the staff every minute. As a single parent, I am worried to distraction about my daughter, but I learned you can relax here. Club Med is on them. And they feel great thinking they've been set free and are on their own. This was the best thing I ever did, and the kids have already announced that this is where they want to go next year.
