I have to start off by saying we learned you can take a taxi ride to/from the Hilton to the aiport for $15 USD each way. You can walk down the hill a few steps from the Hilton bell desk and negotiate a rate with the drivers. Our favorite taxi driver was Felipe Gomez (who sometimes parks it in front of the Hilton waiting for business). You can ask for him or have the hotel call him for you. His cell is [--].
We stayed at the Hilton Cancun 4 days 3 nights in June. It was a Ghost Town due to the Swine Flu scare.
I found that Hilton Honors members do not get their own check in area/special treatment, you have to wait like everyone else. Also, you do not get access to the spa, only the gym. So if you are looking for that VIP H.H. treatment, don't be suprised that you wont be pampered like usual.
The hotel however was beautiful! The pool is spectacular, warm, clean, and enormous. Not to mention they have a swim up "pool bar" in the center. Two hot tubs on each side of the pool (one warm and one hot). Hammocks were tied all around the resort which was so nice to lay in at night and look at the sky. The beach had tons of seating/tables and umbrellas for Hilton guests. You could also order food on the beach. We spent most of our time in the pool area and had a blast.
First two nights we stayed in room 259 which was an King Ocean View room.
Personally I feel this is the best view in the whole joint. It has a front and centered view of the pool/ocean (see pictures). Down side is that the TV is very blurry (but who cares you're in Cancun), our shower had a bad leak and we had to get it repaired because it was flooding the bathroom, carpet was very dirty, and we had to call multiple times for service.
The last night we upgraded to room 532 which was a Spa Suite. We checked in and we had dirty dishes outside our room that weren't removed until the next day. No big deal just another reason it felt the hotel service was not the usual Hilton...Our Spa Suite had no pool view only beach. The jacuzzi on the balcony was an experience! This room was much larger with an enormous balcony complete with seating area, tables, and tons of space to hang out.
Our King Ocean View was $89.00
Our Spa Suite was $219.00
The two most annoying things about staying at the Hilton that you might want to weigh before you book your stay here:
-The hotel is just far enough from everything that it sucks to walk anywhere. The bus is only .60 cents but it was annoying to have to take it (or a taxi) to get anywhere. Because the Hilton food is a.) expensive to eat at three meals a day and b.) not very good at all! you will want to eat out or at least run to the 7-11 to get booze and snacks. Wished the hotel was a little closer to ANYTHING.
-The food in our opinion was terrible (and I am not a picky eater, neither is my friend).
My bacon/cheese omelette taste like paper and the bacon was literally bacon bits. The service was so bad that I had to get up to pour my own refill of OJ and also to ask for our check.
Our room service Pancake Breakfast came with three BITE SIZE silver dollar pancakes which were cold...you get the picture. Let's just say we were very excited to eat at the airport on day four instead of the Hilton.
The drinks at the hotel were great but we waited at a table for 15 minutes and then tried ordering again at the bar for another 10 before we could get the bar tender to finally give us our drinks. 25 minutes for a drink was a bit irritating especially when he kept saying he got our order ...made us wait...then came back and asked what we wanted again.
Food and servicewise the hotel was not up to par.
Everything else about the hotel- the pool, the beach, the views, the spa suite were all perfect. It was a love/hate stay at the Hilton Cancun, just wanted to share my experience.
*Swine Flu P.S. - We traveled the early part of June and Mexico was still taking Swine Flu precautions. We still had to go through the Health Department at the airport in/out of Mexico, complete with extra forms, and temperature reading. Also, airlines stopped giving out pillows so bring your own if needed.
