My new husband and I were at the Hilton for 3 days in April for part of our honeymoon. It is extravagent. We don't have a lot of money, but wanted a luxurious honeymoon - and we can proudly say that's very possible! We payed big for the Hilton, which meant skimping on other things, but it was well worth it!
We loved our room (see pics) - especially the view! We ate breakfast in our robes on our patio every morning and it was glorious.
The beach is gorgeous (see pics), but beware of the waves if you go into deeper water.
The pool is spectacular (see pics) - all connected by cascades and little walkways. Swim-up Palapa bar and an infinity pool - very pretty!
To save money, we were VERY glad we had brought our own bottled water and juice - the prices in the room were horrendous! We also never ate at the hotel restaurants because of the expense, but the food looked and smelled good.
We walked down to the street and took the bus to restaurants every evening. They run 24/7 and are about .60 cents a person - way cheaper then any Taxi. Also to save money, we took the bus downtown (past the hotel zone) to where the big super market is. We bought food for breakfast (go to the bakery section and buy unique fresh baked rolls), beach picnic lunches (PB & J), and snacks there for 3 days - all for about $20 US. Can't beat that! While we were downtown shopping, we also checked out prices for an excursion to Xel-Ha. We went back and forth between 3 different booths, and finally got one guy so low that the other people said it was a good deal and we should take it.
Xel-Ha (see pics) is a one-of-a-kind natural aquarium. It is tons of fun and well worth the cost. You can usually get there cheaper buy taking a "Collectivo" (white vans). At Xel-Ha we did the all-inclusive option (splurged for this) – which was nice because we could eat what ever, when ever. To really enjoy the snorkeling there though, you have to go where the fish are (which is by the feeding places), other wise it gets old fast because, unfortunately, most of the coral is destroyed from years of destructive tourists. Snorkel up the river along the edges and you'll find some pretty sea life and caves. Cliff jumping along the river is fun, too, and tubing down the river is very relaxing.
All in all, we loved our time in Cancun. The Hilton is not a party hotel, and it's away from the clubs and "action," so go somewhere else if you're looking for that. Have fun in Mexico!
