I know many people look at this site to get an honest answer for their trip. I did the exact same thing! Our trip was 10/9-10/14.

Here is the best I can give you..........an honest review from a 40 year old point of view.

We've been to many islands in the Caribbean....bahama's, aruba, cozumel, barbado's, st. thomas, st. john.......Cancun is a wonderful place. It has the atmosphere of being far away in a Caribbean island and still has the night life of a regular destination.

We arrived at the Sun Palace on Sat. The staff there is very very helpful. They are nice, quick to help you with any need and good with advice.

The hotel, however, is not even close to a 6 star hotel. I have no idea how Apple or any other rating system can give this hotel that kind of rating.

In my opinion, I would give it a 3.

Good points............

1) None, we checked out as soon as we could. We found another palace resort to move to.

Bad points...............

No beach...if you are going to travel to the Caribbean....you want to at least walk on a beach. (not the hotel's fault, but be warned)

No-one is staying there. I talked to several other couples at the other "palace resorts" and many said the same thing.....they went to visit the Sun Palace and no one was there....or they were to stay there and checked out to another location. They are at a 10% occupancy rate.

Pool.......is by far the smallest pool I have ever seen in a resort destination. So, even if you are not a beach person, the pool leaves much to be desired.......

Food...........dont know.........we checked out - although, 2 restuarants were closed due to "renovation".

Hotel room..........nice, but just average hotel room to be honest.

The only redeeming part was that the Sun Palace is part of the Palace hotels, so it was not a problem to move hotels. If I had to stay there for 5 days....I would have paid to move to another location.

If you are getting ready to go, have fun....Cancun is great, but you may want to take a second look at the Sun Palace. It is at best a 3.

Just got back on October 11th, This place was fantastic, great service. BUT if you are going to a place with the best pool, best beach sun palace is not your destination. The beach got washed out by a rogue wave so there is no sand on the beach just the rocks left on bottom. The pool is the smallest of all the palace resorts. The hotel staff was great. Cancun Palace had a great pool and a great beach so if you are looking for a beach and pool stay there. Palace resorts is great because you can go to all there hotels. Moon palace sunrise pool is fabulous don't go to the other side or you will see european older ladies with no tops on...unless you are in to that. Great place.

Went to SUN Palace for my honey moon week of Sept 26. It was a very nice resort. The staff was great, All nice, polite, ask anyhting you need.

Food was great but limited selection. The Restaurant by the outside pool was closed. The beach also is destroyed because of a hurrican so dont plan on going there. It was bad because you always hear how great the beach was at Sun, And I guess I wont know. Room service was great, 24 hr and you can get steaks, fish anyhting you want. The rooms were nice and if you like hard beds you will like this. The beds are very hard and pillows are very flat. Couldn't wait to get back in my bed.

The resort gives you 2 free adventures to pick from. They are not free, you go there then they get you on Snorkeling or tours ranging from 30 USD to 70USD per person.

At the lobby bar ask for Ceaser. He made out trip, He makes the best drinks and is the best Employee they have there. They switch bartenders every 15 days so I hope you get him. They also have 2-3 people that do events at the pool and at night. They were great. Getting people involved, like Volleyball, Bindo, triva, Casino night, and singing. We went to the Moon palace and dont bother. Wasy to big and not enough personal attention.

DO NOT GO ON THE ROMANTIC LOBSTER CRUISE. This was something that runined our trip. You pay 74.00 USD per person and the boat is old, Smells, If you sit on the deck you eat with TV trays, and If you sit under the deck on a table they sit you with another couple you do not know. The boat left at 8:15 and did not eat till 10:45 and it was cold. No snacks nothing. They will not refund any of your money even if something was a disaster to put everything on a credit card or room charge.
The local bus was O.K little scummy but got $.65 what can you say.

One last things is make sure you have Arangments to the Hotel befor you go to Cancun. When you get off the plane it is crazy. It is something you do not want to deal with after a flight and so many people want to give you the best deal that you herd of. Kind of funny!!

Overall besides the arguing if the lobster trip they were great.

My husband, 19 year old son,his 18 year old girlfriend and myself stayed at the Sun Palace Sept 2-7. Labor Day weekend is THE time to go. At the most there was maybe 20 people on the beach. The drinks were very strong, not weak like many of the reviews we read, and the room service only took about 30 minutes. Breakfast and lunch were pretty much the same each day, but the evening meal we ordered off the menu, a filet mignon, cooked just the way we liked it. The ONLY complaint we had was the slection of television programs. I would have like to have seen a US based CNN or Fox news. Everything in the mini bar is included (beer, champagne, liquor). We finished a bottle of champange and they replaced it with two bottles. Tulum is hot hot hot. I recommend renting a car for the day to do this tour, I cannot image taking this tour with a bus load, it only cost us $55 to rent a jeep for 24 hours. Enjoy! It was the best vacation for my husband and I and the kids. Oh, the water is clearer than any place we've ever been.
Also, we did go to the Moon and Cancun Palace, there were ALOT more people at those hotels. The Sun Palace is defintely a quieter hotel. The rooms are huge and beautiful, not a bad a view anywhere!

My husband, myself and my two children aged 7 & 12 have just returned from 2 weeks at the Sun Palace. (15th August 04-29th August 04) & have nothing bad to say at all about it. I have read the negative reviews from some holiday makers & seriously wondered if we were discussing the same hotel. If you have booked a holiday at Sun Palace, relax.. it will be fabulous.

My husband & I are both professionals, have very high standards and expectations and have travelled all over the world staying in wonderful hotels, This one was lovely.

The staff were so helpful and friendly, the pool crew are lovely and really try to make you feel comfortable and have a good time without being rowdy, Our room was beautiful and very large with balcony & jacuzzi (464), breakfast was fabulous with an endless array of fresh fruits, champagne, cheeses, hams, cooked foods, milkshakes, smoothies etc etc etc.

Lunch time in the main Aurora restaurant was equally as good as breakfast with an amazing salad selection. The chocolate desert section was out of this world every day & I confess that the word Carbs meant nothing to me for 2 weeks!!

Evening meals were slightly less amazing but still very good.

Alcoholic drinks didn't taste watered down to me. (I'm not an expert on alcohol though) but I met many people who seemed more qualified in drinking than myself and they had no complaints either. The cocktails were delicious and I had no problems getting drinks at the bar, Ernesto is very quick!!

The beach was fabulous & maybe I had the sun in my eyes or something.. but What rocks?

We visited Moon Palace one day and 1 hour after arrival we called for a cab and returned to the Sun Palace,

Sharing a pool & a seaweed infested beach with thousands!!!!!!!!!! of people is not our idea of fun, the place is huge & incredibly busy & we personally wouldn't want to stay there if we were paid to do so.

A FREE trip to Moon Palace should be avoided in my opinion unless you want to spend about 11,000.USD!! You really are only there so the reps can try & sell timeshare.

Xel-Ha is a must do trip.
Isla Mejeures also fabulous fun,

We were all really really sad to leave. Amazing holiday.
