The sun palace was very nice resort. I would say it would be appropriate to say it is 4 stars.
We had a jr suite on the 1st floor overlooking the pool with a ocean view, at first we were upset to not have a room on a higher floor but it ended up being nice not having to take the elevator all the time. There are rooms on the other side of the building overlooking the Thai restaurant that would have a horrible view, so try to avoid staying on the north side of the building on the first floor anyway. The bed an jacuzzi were very nice, however the bathroom toilet area did not offer very much privacy to the rest of the room ( a sheet of smoked glass). The hallways were also very noisy from footsteps, but it seems like its like that at every hotel that uses marble in the hallway. The food was good, but after you eat at all the restaurants once you get tired of it. we stayed for 7 days and ended up eating at the Mexican buffet and the Thai lounge twice for dinner. you can always ride the bus down to the beach/cancun palace and eat there too. The entertainment staff was very nice, we went kayaking with miguel in the lagoon and had a great time. the drinks were good, not to weak, not really all that strong either.

we did do some of the included excursions: we did the chichen itza tour, it was nice, a neat place to go but it is a very very long day, i wouldn't say its a must see if your going on a short trip. We did the zip lines an holkon kingdom, was a blast, must do. and we did the dolphin swim and tour to isla mujeres was horrible, i would say if your going to here go on your own, you would have a much better time without the ridiculous time restrictions the boat tour has in place. if you get a free dolphin swim from the hotel i would definitely suggest using it at wetn wild instead if they still offer it.

all in all we had a great time and would maybe go back a few years down the road, unless we find a better place in the mean time.

Just got back on May 18th and wanted to let everyone who is thinking of going to Cancun to not cancel your plans and GO!!!! It was wonderful and I never thought for a single minute that I was going to get sick or kidnapped by a drug cartel (what a bunch of crap!!)
Everyone at Sun Palace, Beach Palace and Cancun Palace treated us awesome, I have no complaints and wanted everyone to know that everything is good and the people of Cancun need your business. Don't believe the hype!!! Go and have fun, it is truly a beautiful place.....we've been 4 times. :)

just back last week from the sun palace 5/4-5/9- me and hubby had a great time. service was the best. the room #729 had a fab view looking down the beach toward the lighthouse. water and sand were rock free and warm. when we arrived, before we even checked in we were handed two glasses of the bubbly as a welcome. and it was just the begaining of a wonderful week. it was our anniversary on wednesday. they had a cake and bottle of chilled wine in our room. and at the italian restaurant another cake with best wishes for us. so thoughtful - and the sax player came to our table and played just for us (very romantic) thank you pedro and johnny what great service. thanks to carmen for the care she took each day with our room and turn down service each night and to all the guys and gals for the excellent service with smiles- pablo in the mexican restaurant - arturo and jorge at the steak bar-b-q- and luis at the thai. they all made it great fun.and a special thanks to aron the super hero entertainment mc what fun. due to the swine flu alot of public places, government run ruins and such were closed also for cino de mayo things were closed. we didn't see any sign that the flu was in cancun we went to the mall on the city bus and didn't see any masks.there were a lot less tourist because of themedia hyp- so glad we didn't listen and stay home, we would have missed the best vacation, if you want to feel pampered and relaxed stay at the sun palace. can't wait to go back

We just got married on the beach on Cinco de Mayo at the Sun Palace in the middle of this "pandemic" and we could not be more grateful to CNN for making it the most wonderful, non crowded, relaxing vacation we and 17 of our closest friends have ever had! The service, the food, the wedding planner, the spa, the photographer, the bus drivers - everyone was amazing. We had the best time and they have the hardest working staff I have ever seen. A bad day at work at my desk is exhausting. I cannot imagine how tired those girls were after feeding us 200 drinks in the sand were! Thank you ladies! I have been to Moon, Sun, Beach and Cozumel Palace and this is my favorite if you are going with adults only but they have all been great. Writing this I need a pina colada with an extra shot of dark rum on the top by Nestor, our favorite bartender right now! The only complaint...the french fries stink! LOL But really, what an incredible day, week, we have been asked by all of our guests to renew our vows every year!
