My fiance and I were at Sun Palace May 24th - 31st.

We booked thru a member so our airport transfer was included. We arrived around 8 pm Sunday night and had the van from the airport all to ourselves! It was a very quick trip from the airport to Sun Palace. As soon as we arrived, I received a carnation and we both received a glass of champagne. Luigi checked us in and since occupancy was low, he upgraded our room without even having to ask for it!

Our luggage went with us to the room along with a staff member (I can't remember his name). He gave us a tour of our room, explained how the lights and AC work along with the maid service/do not disturb lights. The room was immaculate! The jacuzzi tub was awesome! We used it almost every night. This was an excellent way to relax at the end of the day before going to sleep.

The first day, Monday, Zulema helped us to plan our itinerary for the week. She was so kind and helpful. I was disappointed that the tours to Coba and Ek Balam were cancelled. The occupancy was low due to the H1N1 flu, so they didn't have enough pepole to fill those tours. I spent the afternoon at the spa, while my fiance spent time getting to know Nestor at the pool bar.

Tuesday, we went on the Tulum tour and visited the Xpu-Ha Palace. Tulum was beautiful. I was sad that we were not able to get closer to the ruins to really examine the carvings on the ruins. But the view from the top of the cliff is amazing. Our tour guide did a great job of sharing the history of the Mayas and Tulum. Xpu-Ha had a buffet lunch for us that was just ok. We didn't do the snorkeling, but probably should have. Instead, we went to the pool and hung out at the pool bar for awhile.

Wednesday, we went to the sales presentation at Cancun Palace. They gave us lots of spa credit and the Jungle tour for our time. We didn't buy, but enjoyed visiting Cancun Palace. That afternoon we sat by the pool to read and relax. The staff checked on us constantly to make sure we had enough to drink. They really work hard to make your vacation the very best. There was a drum and fire show on the beach that night. It was amazing!

Thurday, we did the zipline. It was fun and scary! I'm not crazy about heights, but I'm so glad I did it! We were back to the hotel by about 10:30. We went to Wet-N-Wild and had the place practically to ourselves. We did not swim with the dolphins, but there were no lines and shared the lazy river with only 1 other couple. The food at Wet-N-Wild was not good. But we enjoyed a few drinks at the bars and got to know the bartenders.

Friday, we went to Chichen Itza. It was a long, hot day, but so very worth it. Archeologists were there starting a new dig. There is something under the big pyramid, but they don't know what it is yet. There were tons of vendors in the ruins, which was annoying. Our tour guides were totally awesome! They were excellent at speaking bi-lingually for the entire bus ride.

Saturday, I was back at the spa in the morning. All the staff at the spa were excellent. I think I fell asleep during my facial. We went on the Jungle tour in the afternoon. Since it was our last night, we went to the Italian restaruant. Johnny Colorado was our waiter and he was so funny! He had us laughing all night!

Most evenings we at the Mexican restaurant. Pablo was our waiter and he did a great job at taking care of our every need.

We did not want to leave "paradise". I figure as soon as I win the lottery, we can live at Sun Palace! lol

Definitely ask for a 6th floor room if available. The balcony is the largest and view is awesome. We cannot say enough good things about Sun Palace. The room was amazing and spa like, very relaxing.

Due to the reduced travel to Mexico, the staff greatly out numbered the guests. We did miss the ambience of having more people around us. But no lines! I'm not sure how it was before the flu scare. However, I'm sure the staff was just as likely to fufill special requests. Don't be afraid to ask for anything, the staff is eager to accomodate you. All the staff spoke enough English so that we didn't struggle to understand them. We really felt waited on hand and foot.

The food was yummy! The mixed drinks were perfect. Don't expect a "quick" dinner at the specialty restaurants. They take their time even with few people there. I think we Americans are in too much of a hurry, and the slower pace really helped us to savor our meals. Try the orange juice, my husband couldn't get enough of it.

We chose Sun Palace because of the beach which was perfect. No shoes needed. The sand is soft, cool, and relatively rock free. The waves were a little rough but tons of fun, and definitely suited for someone looking for a little adventure and who doesn't mind getting knocked down a few times. We spent most of our time here, and were amazed too that the staff will drag out your own personal lounge chairs and umbrella each day. The wait staff also serves drinks and food right on the beach, so other than going to the restroom, there's no need to leave the beach. We spent very little time in the pool, but it seemed nice enough.

The hotel entertainment was a little cheesy, but fun if you just don't feel like leaving the resort. We will be going back to Sun Palace for sure. I recommend it to everyone who is looking for superb service, food, and a relaxed environment.

My one complaint was, as mentioned in previous reviews, the time share traps. Beware the "hotel welcome". We wanted to get right to our room after check in. We didn't want to spend the first 10 minutes of our very short vacation listening to someone trying to get us to go to a time share meeting. If we had a longer stay (like a week), we may have sacrificed the 2 1/2 hours to get the free goods (like a snorkeling tour or dolphin swim).

My husband and I spent 7 days May 15 - 22, 2009. We had a wonderful time. We wanted an ocean front room with a large balcony and was a little disapponted when we were assigend to an ocean view on the 8th floor. When we asked to be moved to the 6th floor with the large balcony and ocean view Jamie at the front desk was happy to move us as soon as a room was available. We ordered room service for breakfast most mornings. We found the food fantastic. Yes, there are only 4 restaurants, but that only gives you the opportunity to try different things on the menu. I highly recommend ordering the Mayan Coffee in the italian restaurant, It's worth it just to watch them prepare it at your table. To add varitey the steak house was set up on the beach which was a very nice. The mixed drinks were great all top quality, just ask for your favorite even if you don't see it on the shelf.

The Beach was beautiful! All you have to do is walk on the beach and a staff member will put your lounge chair, table and umbrella any where you want, before you know it a waiterss is asking you what your want to drink or eat.

Our room was roomy always clean and the turn down service was great. I would suggest leaving a tip for housekeeping they do a great job.

The pools were OK not the best in the world but great for relaxing. The entertainment staff was very frinedly especially Nancy.

We took a tour to Tulum with a stop at Xup Ha, and did the Jungle Tour to snorkel on the reef. It was all great. Although be prepared the trip to Tulum is all day.

One word of warning. You will be aske to listen to the sales pitch for the Palace resorts. We went to Moon Palace (which is beautiful and very large), but be prepared they can be pushy. They wouldn't take no for an answer. Don't worry about hurting their feeling just be firm and say no, take the gifts the promised you and enjoy the resort.

Over all we had a great time, the all the staff is helpful, and very polite, with a smile on their face.

Definitely would return.

My husband and i, just came back from the sun palace, and it was all great. If you are wondering yourself if the other reviews are true, here's the answer. THEY ARE. Check in: eficient and easy. Luigi checked us in, he also gave us the honeymoon package, wich included a couple of t-shirts and a dinner. Since the hotel was not full, we were given a standard room on the 8th floor, but we asked luigi for a room on the 6th and 15 minutes later we were already in 624. Best room in the place. Thanks Luigi. Entertaiment was ok. The beach was amazing, Pools were ok too. Food: great. Staff: The best around the world. Everyone was so friendly. We are going back for sure.
