“The food was horrible!”

I stayed at the Cancun Palace in August 1999. I only just recently found this tripadvisor site to investigate future locations. I thought the premesis and room was beautiful. We had a wonderful oceanview room.
We got a free upgrade to a room with a hottub, but we only got in it once since it was soooo hot in August. The bad thing about the hot tub rooms is you don't get a balcony. I think I would have preferred the balcony.

The thing that was the worst was the food! I think the refrigeration was bad or something because most of the food tasted spoiled, and yes, we got Montezuma's revenge within only a matter of days. (We know we got it here because we hadn't eaten or drank anywhere else) The food was bland and boring. Everything from seafood to italian to chinese to whatever they served had the same nasty spice on it. It all tasted the same. Even though we had all inclusive, by midweek we had to go out and eat elsewhere because we were so sick of the food.

And, we weren't the only ones. Couples that had arrived at the same time as us were ordering pizzas by the truck load. We heard lots of people complaining about the food. The formal restaurant wasn't any better. Don't know why we ordered a filet mignon (don't) but it was more like a hamburger with no bun. And, it was nasty. If you stay here, don't get all inclusive, as you'll want to eat elsewhere!

“Great Hotel”

Cancun Palace

My wife, two friends and I just got back from our stay at the Cancun Palace. The Hotel is top notch. We have stayed in the Mayan Riviera at the Aventura Spa Palace before and it is also a great hotel. But I do not know why you would want to drive an hour and 15 minutes from the airport when you can travel 10 minutes and have the same service and quality hotel with a beautiful beach. The Spa Palace has no beach. Just a nasty lagoon. I would highly recommend CP. It is very clean and the service is awesome. The furniture in the lobby is a little tacky but then again if you are interested in interior design try out for Trading Spaces. We stayed in an ocean front room with a jacuzzi. It did not have a balcony. We asked about the ocean front rooms with Jacuzzis and balconies and it is my understanding they are time share only. I had no complaints with the room, it was very clean, the jacuzzi was great the made service was awesome. I highly recommend the Cancun Palace.

“Not bad... but not as great as expected”

Got back from Cancun about a week ago, on Sept 7, with my darling sweetheart (Luv U, T!). Based on the great reviews this resort has received we decided to spend 5 days at the Palace. Right from the start I could tell this was not a 5-star resort. This is not to say that the resort is poor. Quite the contrary. It is very nice, modern, and clean.
Furniture is a little outdated and the marble is quite tacky... buy hey, you're in Mexico! Being the first week of Sept with everyone in 'back-to-school' mode, the hotel was relatively empty. The pool and beach were well attended and had lots of well-organized activities for everyone. The beach was absolutely spectacular. I have never seen clearer waters or felt softer sand. I swam at least a few hundred feet out and there was nothing but soft sand on the ocean floor. The staff, food and entertainment was wonderful. Our room was not the greatest. I had booked the upgraded oceanview room but got a lagoon-view room instead, which did not have a balcony. If you go, insist on an oceanview jacuzzi suite with a balcony. The jacuzzi-suite we received was clean and everything worked... thank goodness for air conditioning cuz it gets HOT! Even though some of the days were rainy, I never smelled the musky stentch everyone talks about. The drinks were great and always strong as I requested them... the drinks are free and if you get weak drinks, tip the bar/server $1 and ask for strong drinks! Don't forget to bring lots of $1 bills for tipping... I probably tipped $70 in total during my 8 days in Cancun and it definitely made a difference in service, especially for table service. The free tour to Chichen-Itza was nice, but the hotel told us our package only included 1 tour despite having been told at booking time that we had unlimited tours.
For Canadian travellers out there - DO NOT book through Sun Holidays (tour operator: Sunwing/Red Seal Vacations)... you will get second rate service and there will be many limitations. We spent the first three days in the Mayan Riviera at the El Dorado Royale and that is a true 5-star hotel. Then again, most hotels in the Mayan Riviera are better than the ones in Cancun. Anyone who gives this hotel top-rating obviously has not travelled enough to compare. It is very nice, but certainlt not top-of-the-line.

“Plenty of Smiles and Great Service”

Cancun Palace

This place is everything we wanted it to be and more. I think it's very important to see the people who are serving you smile. This is all we saw at Cancun Palace. From the check in desk to the guy who gave you a towel poolside. I've read the last 4 month's of reveiws on this place and I don't think some of the people were really fair...this has got to be the cleanest beach in all the carribian...who cares about the drop-off. And for the hot weather and humidity...who can you blame that on ? We stayed on the 11th floor from sept. 2nd to the 9th and slept under the blankets every nite. If you don't like the heat...stay in your room or in one of many of there air conditioned ones. There is one person there I would like to mention. He seemed to be filled with more smiles than anyone else. He is the bartender from 8 to 5 next to the pool and his name is Wilbur. This man has such a great attitude and a smile that just never stopped that he really made me take a look at just how life is too short. I'll leave this review with one good tip.
Bring plenty of one dollar bills to tip these great people with. They really do live on there tips... and they're all really good people. If you go, which I really hope you do...Tell Wilbur, Phil says hi.

“Swim with Dolphins = Ripoff”

Cancun Palace

Sep 8, 2003
11/11 found this review helpful

The Swim with the Dolphins adventure was misrepresented and personnel at that facility were uncooperative and deceptive in their practices. We booked an open water swim with the Dolphins adventure and were asked if we wanted instead to go to the Interactive Dolphin Adventure because the open water adventure was booked. We said firmly No, it would be the open water or nothing at all. Moments later we were told that a special trip would be prepared for our group. We were then led to two pens, each one containing a dolphin. Our group thought that this was perhaps an orientation to the open water session. Upon completion of our session in the pens with the Dolphins we asked when we would depart for the open water swim session. We were then told that since the open water session was booked that we were taken to the interactive session. We protested and were told that since we had completed the interactive session that there would be no refunds. This is astonishing, to say the least. We were quite clear and concise in our request and the communication of same and were ignored. Instead the facility staff took it upon themselves to accept our money, blatantly misrepresent themselves and then shrug off any refund demands. The Oh Well attitude was very unprofessional and severely tarnished the image of Palace Resorts.By the way, the hamburgers, fruit, salmon, and sandwiches are good from room-service. Avoid the steak and all else. The drinks outside are excellent (tip the bartender). Isla Mujares is a good trip, but go it alone via the Ferry and rent a golf cart. Have some scorpion tequilla (real scorpions) at the Nabalam hotel bar, but beware! Don't rent the mopeds at Isla as the speed bumps and sand= major accidents (especially after the s. tequilla). Enjoy.
