We stayed here for 8 days this June. Everything was as good or better than we had hoped.

Check in: It went very well. We received an ocean front room. Greeted warmly but it was only 11:30 so we had to wait an hour or so until the room was ready. We went and had a snack until then.

Room: Lovely and always cleaned properly. We were never awakened for them to come in to clean as one reviewer stated. The drawback was it was very near the elevator and a bit noisy on occasion.

Food/drinks: We enjoyed all the food. Drinks were good. I couldn't get a Mojito at all though due to lack of the resort having any fresh mint. Trust me, I found other replacements :)

Staff: one of the best parts...friendly and the service was awesome. My ten year old stated early on "they sure are nice here"

Spa: We had one couples massage which was awesome, and the free services for members were great bonuses.

Beach/pool: The beach was small but it existed and thank goodness! It truly was beautiful. We visited the Moon on our stay and I'm glad we didn't stay there due to their beach. It's just not what I'm looking for in a tropical beach vacation. Pools were clean too. The Beach Palace pools were also worth visiting.

Tours: We did a lot of included tours and loved them. The ferry ride to Isla was hysterical with Isla Palace staff, but I don't recommend the added cost tour around the island once you get there. It's really boring and costs extra money.

:( The biggest problem was check out when they insisted on charging us twice for the same boring tour, but after we returned home it was taken care of.

Ask any questions if you have them and I'll try to help...Stay here if you are considering it!

“Fantastic Vacation at Cancun Palace”

Cancun Palace

Jun 30, 2008
10/10 found this review helpful

My husband and I were in Cancun from June 7-24, 2008. We stayed at Cancun Palace with our 3 daughters (ages 14, 17, and 22) from the 7th to the 13th (we moved to Sun Palace after the girls left from the 13th to the 24th). At Cancun Palace we had adjoining rooms 546 and 548 which were in the center of the building. I posted photos of the view from our rooms. The rooms were very nice with a large balcony. They supply you with Biosilk shampoo, conditioner and skin cream, toothbrushes and paste, a razor, q-tips, cotton balls, nail file, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, robes, slippers, etc., etc. Also, a fridge with sodas, water and beer along with a mini bar with bottles of alcohol.

The pool was large and the water was warm and refreshing, never too cold to just get right in. If you want loungers up front by the activity side, you need to get your towels there by 8am. No problem getting seats on the quieter side or a farther row by the activities, though. There are swim up bars on both ends of the pool. Watching the daily pool activities was a lot of fun. My youngest daughter (14) would have liked to see more activities for her age as a lot of the fun activities included drinking alcohol. Wait staff came by often and will get food or drinks – anything you need is never a problem for any of the staff.

The beach was closed off while we were there. They roped off the steps leading to it (on June 15th I posted pictures of the beach). You could still climb down to the beach and swim, though. The beach bar was also closed while we were there. We did climb over the caution tape and walked up and down the beach. Most beaches we walked to were small and rocky. They get wider as you go south.

They have 5 restaurants. An international buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A Mexican restaurant by the quiet side of the pool with a buffet breakfast and lunch and a la carte for dinner (you have to go down the steps/ramp for the buffet and bring back up to the tables). The Italian had a continental breakfast and a la carte for dinner (for breakfast you could also walk down the ramp to the international buffet and bring back up to Italian restaurant where it is less crowded). The Oriental was open only for dinner. You could either sit at their tables or make reservations to sit at the hibatchi grill. They take reservations in the lobby from 11am-3pm for the grill seating. The Steak Restaurant was only open for dinner and is buffet style. You pick your cut of meat and they grill it for you.

Definitely try the flank steak sandwich for lunch at the Mexican Restaurant buffet. We found it better than their other cuts of beef and they season it really well, too. They don’t really have the best cuts of beef there, but not the worst either. The rib eye was good one night and not so good another.

Both sides of the pool also have snacks, burgers, and ice cream that you just walk up to, get what you want, and eat at your lounge chair. You can also go to any open restaurant and get a ‘to-go’ box, fill it up and bring it anywhere. They also set up a buffet by the pool in the late afternoon. In other words…food is everywhere, always! Everywhere you walk, something is set up with food or snacks – no dieting at this place!

They had daily entertainment by the pool and evening shows which were all very nice. The shows were either held in the theater, the lobby bar or by the pool. In one of my forum posts, I listed all the shows and where they took place. For a charge of about $40, they also had an evening bus with staff to take you to a different club each night. It leaves at 10pm. VIP seating and drinks are included. You are on your own for transportation back, but staff is there if you have questions and cabs are right outside the club. My oldest daughter went to Dady’O with the resort and had a great time. She shared a cab back with other guests. She also got VIP tickets to see Lil Jon at O’Briens. This was not part of the resort events, but they arranged it for her and some other guests she met.

I posted a list of the included tours in the forum if you are interested. My two youngest daughters did the free zip lining tour (which is not advertised on their website nor in the welcome package brochure). Just ask guest services about it – also ask if there are any other un-advertised excursions for the week that you are there. My girls had a blast zip lining. They got picked up at 7:45am and were back by about 11am. There was also the option of staying longer and doing ATV or horseback riding, but there is a charge for that and you won’t return to the hotel until about 3pm.

We took the bus which is right out front and very easy to use (only 65 cents) to do some shopping. We went to Isla Mall, Kukulcan/Luxury Ave Mall and Flamingo Mall. The Kukulcan Mall has a slot machine and sport book casino in it called Play City, which we visited a couple of times. The slots only pay back in pesos, but the sports book pays American money.

We also visited the Beach Palace which is also very nice. We found that there were more families there with younger children. They have a huge screen over the pool where they show movies at night. The sky bar and pools have a beautiful view. They have no beach at all, though. Just a little bit at the south end, which is really more in front of the hotel next door.

If you need any more info, just send me a message or check through my forum posts from while I was there and when I returned – just click on my name, my contributions, my forum posts.

We had a great time and would definitely return.

“Fantastic vacation”

Cancun Palace

We were at the Cancun Palace for 6 nights (Jun 21st - 27) with our two teenagers (13 and 15 years) and we had a wonderful relaxing time. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and I don't recall ever being asked so many times if I wanted anything to drink. I was particularly impressed by how hard-working the staff was - they never waste a moment being idle. They work extra hard to make sure you can relax!

Overall the food was good, with lots of choices. The International restaturant was where we had the most meals. The Italian place was excellent (you had to wear long pants) but I didn't care for the Chinese. The Hibachi was good too - our chef at the hibachi was a first-timer, so we made sure that we sat alert - I didn't want a super sharp Hibachi knife flying towards me. But there were no mishaps.

The room had a Jacuzi with bubble-bath and my wife and daughter loved it. My son loved the fact that the hotel had free Internet connection (WiFi), so he stayed connected with all his friends back home. The phone calls from the room to landline phones in US and Canada are also free (not to cell phones) and we called US a few times at no charge.

They have a show every evening at 8pm at the Theatre. I loved the Magic Show and the Circus. The Mexican show was okay, nothing to write home about. The Michael Jackson show was overrated.

We went to Wet-n-Wild (this is included in the All-Inclusive package since it is owned by the Palace resolrts and the food, drinks, ice-cream etc. are all free) and the kids had a blast. Take the bus - it costs you less than a dollar, the taxi I was told was $10. The kids did the "Swim with the dolphins" and they were quite thrilled. The rides are pretty good too.

The time flew by so fast. The worst part of the vacation was that it is over !! :(

P.S. You must order the "Mayan Coffee" at the Italian place. The demonstration of how it is made is amazing. My daughter video-taped the demo. They light the alcohol on fire and pour it from one container to the other and you can see the blue flames while it is being poured in your glass. The coffee is a mixture of coffee, alcohol and vanilla ice-cream.

I booked a stay May 25th - June 2nd (check out date). Our entire stay was marvelous and we enjoyed our vacation for these 8 days UNTIL check out. Upon arrival, everyone greeted us very well and welcomed us. They placed the yellow bracelets on us and told us not to lose them. When checking out at approximately 2:00 pm, they would not let us leave due to the fact that we had taken off our bracelets the night before prior to departing because there was no other use for it - after 8 entire days of wearing them we took them off because we no longer needed to have them on. When checking out the reception desk wanted to charge us 150.00 (75.00 for each bracelet!) claiming that upon arrival we were warned about this. Never once did any employee advise us that these PLASTIC BRACELETS! would have to be recycled/returned????? The staff made a scene including a man that claimed he was the manager: RAYMOND. He argued that we must pay 75.00 each to obtain a new bracelet, but per the contract that we have signed upon arrival it said that "guest will pay 75.00 for each remaining night" we had ZERO remaining nights, therefore, 75 x 0 = 0 due to the reception! They would not let us leave and we had to catch our flight back home. Due to all the commotion the hotel made, they caused us to miss our flight and wait an additional SIX HOURS! at the airport for the next available flight including a 100.00 re-booking fee by the airline! The even WORST and MOST EMBARRASSING part was that the staff RAN after us like we were criminals, told the taxi driver NOT to take us to the airport, when we walked away advised the security personnel at the entrance NOT to let us leave, security then let the manager know that we were leaving anyway and the entire staff RAN AFTER US like we were CRIMINALS!!!! They threatened to call the police and have us arrested if we did not pay them!!!! THere are witnesses that were at the bus stop that we took their names and phone numbers of if the staff denies their wrong doings. At this point, I want A) refund of the 75.00 charged to my credit card, B) compensation of 200.00 for missing our flights and half reimbursement of our stay for the trouble, embarassment and loss of time. I just got the response back from the hotel and theyre not even admitting to their wrongdoings!!!!
