Stayed here in Feb. 06. It was great. Rooms were great and all had an ocean view. The pool was wonderful and staff was helpful. The only problem was there wasn't much of a beach. This is possibly because of the hurricane but you can take the shuttle to other resorts for free to use there beach. Although they were pumping sand when I was there so the beach might be there now.

I would definitely stay here again. Loved it!

“The cleanest resort I think I've ever stayed in”

Seriously. Not what you would expect to hear about a timeshare but it's true. The pool was crystal clear 24/7 , every day we were there. I watched them scrub the tile on the outdoor showers on a daily basis. I watched the housekeeper pull the bed away from the wall and mop the marble floor beneath it. I don't mean to sound like a "clean freak" because I'm not, I was just amazed at the importance they have placed in this area at this resort. From what I gather from other vacationers I sat next to at the pool, all of their resorts are like this.

The restaurant by the pool served good food at reasonable prices. The servers were polite but just fair in my opinion. I tend to rate service on drink refills and this was a slow process and one you always had to ask for. They were VERY quick to remove your dirty plate however so it wasn't a "mexico pace" kind of thing.

The staff you would pass throughout the resort would always speak and have a smile on their face. I would say cordial would be a fair description. It was hard to get in much of a conversation because I don't speak Spanish and many employees don't speak English.

We were only able to trade for a "studio" room due to this being a last minute vacation. It served the purpose but was no where near the same experience if we would have had the entire 2 bedroom villa. It would have been great to have the kitchen and seperate living room.

The hurricane damage is visible at neighboring properties but only in the palm trees at Royal Sands. The beach is indeed wider since they pumped the sand but it's kind of a course, sandy beach and has a 5 foot dropoff to the oceans edge.

The weather was beautiful, (perfect) with sunny skies, 87 degrees and a very nice breeze. There is an indoor mall 1/2 block away and an outdoor mall about 1/2 mile down the street.

Business is down considerably and I was surprised it wasn't busier since it was still spring break for high school students. The resort caters to families with kids of all ages and there didn't seem to be a problem with loud spring breakers.

I would go back to a Royal Resort if I could get a 2 bedroom villa. It was a very nice vacation.

My husband and I were guests of our very good friends, who have a time share, which they traded so we could stay at Royal Sands. Although, we have all been to Cancun before, we had not stayed with Royal Resorts. We were all pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the Royal Sands was and how clean the staff keeps it, from the rooms, to the grounds, to the pools. The beach was huge and very well kept. We were all just into relaxing, so we spent a lot of time by the pool or beach. We ate at the Sands, Mayan, Caribbean and Islander. The food was good. I am sure there are better restaurants in the area, but we just wanted the convenience of being shuttled by the Royal Resorts bus. We all enjoyed the Sands very much and would definitely go back there. Our only excursion was to the Royal Resorts new time share, The Hacienda. We were not pressured and went because we were interested in purchasing one. We didn't, but want to go there next year. We stayed in the two room villas with a living area. Again, everything about the resort was enjoyable and we loved being there. Can't wait to go again!

Without a doubt the best resort in Cancun. The customer service is the best of any resort or hotel I have ever been to. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking.

We just returned from a week at the Royal Sands 3/18 - 3/25. We have been members of the Royal Mayan since it opened (19 years) and this was our first stay at the Royal Sands. As is the case with all the other Royal Resorts, the Sands was fantastic. There are 5 of us in our family, wife and I and our three children 11, 18 & 20 and this time my 18 year old son brought two college buddies with him. We were very comfortable in our villas as there is plenty of space for all with the comfortable Murphy beds in the living room in place of a sofa sleeper. Food and tropical drinks were great as usual and the newly restored beach was fabulous. If you have not stayed at the Royal Resorts, you will be impressed with the high quality service, extreme cleanliness and incredible friendlyness of the complete staff; you can't help but improve your attitude after just a couple of days interaction with the resort staff at every level. We always hate to leave at the end of our week. On this trip, we visited some of the other "big name" hotels and in our opinion, they don't match up to the Royal resorts for quality and how perfectly manicured every aspect of the resorts are maintained. It's no wonder that two weeks after Hurricane Wilma, all the four Royal resorts were back in operation along with a few other hotels throughout all of Cancun.
