My husband and I (both 33 years old) went to Wet 'n Wild on May 13th, 2008. It was an included tour with our stay at the Sun Palace. We really had a great time!!! Our Elite Tours transportation picked us up at the hotel @ 9:30am and since the Sun Palace is just a short ways away, the ride was pretty quick. When we arrived there was a Wet 'n Wild respresentative there who gave us a return ticket showing our transportation would pick us back up at 2:50pm.
LOCKER RENTAL/TOWELS:
Soon after you walk in, you will find the locker rental and the towel stand. The lockers are $4.00 USD to rent + a $10.00 USD refundable deposit on the locker (they will accept USD) We paid in USD and it was nice to receive our deposit back in USD. They give you a locker key on a strap you can wear around your wrist that tightens so it won't come off your arm. Sinc we were staying at a Palace resort (and Wet 'n Wild is owned by them) we brought our towel cards and were able to get 2 towels to use during our day at Wet 'n Wild. This is nice so you don't have to bring your own towel. However, I'm not sure how it works with other resorts....I did see some people with RIU towels so they must have just brought their towels from their resort.
FOOD:
Since we were staying at a Palace resort, we were able to eat and drink all day and it was included. They just needed to see that you were wearing a Palace resorts wristband. There are a couple of bars that serve frozen drinks, mixed drinks, pop and beer (only Dos Equis). For lunch time they have a large snack bar and the items you could pick from were: Chicken sandwich (excellent---it had cheese, pickles, tomato and onion and they have condiments such as hot sauce, mayo, mustard, ketchup you can use), Cheeseburger, Chicken nuggets, Chicken Fingers, Pizza (Cheese, Pepperoni, Margarheta---w/tomatoes), French Fries, Nacho chips with cheese (really good---cheese wasn't spicy at all which was nice), Salad (caesar, tropical fruit and there might have been 1 other selection). Since the food was included for us, you can get as much as you'd like. Later on after we had eaten, we didn't realize there were 2 other eating stations. One was over by the water ride the Space Bowl. It was somewhat hidden and not advertised so you'll have to look for it. Here they have a buffet line set up with silver chaffing dishes that had Mexican fare (lamb or chicken tacos, rice and all the fixins). Then we saw over by the Wave Pool they had some people cooking Paella. So be sure and check out all your options before you decide to eat lunch. I was still fine with the chicken sandwich because I thought it was very good. Near the locker rental there is also an ice cream stand.
WATER RIDES/SLIDES: As other people have said, there aren't a lot of slides but if you go in knowing that, you won't be dissapointed. We had a great time anyway. It was really an enjoyable day and we are glad we went. They have 7 slides (but really 4 different ones...since some are duplicated): 1 & 2 Kamakaze (2 slides next to each other---
so you and a friend can race if you'd like--although they only had one running) This ride is bascially one that you lie down on (without a tube) and you go down a couple of dips (one pretty straight down). It was fun. 3 &4. Twister (2 slides: this one is for 2 people and uses a tube that is included). This ride was also really fun. Not scary or any big drops but just a fun ride. 5 & 6. Space Bowl (2 slides for one person at a time) This was located behind the wave pool. Imagine that this ride looks like a big funnel. You shoot down an enclosed tube and it shoots you out into this funnel where you spin and spin around until you drop down the center into the pool. Lots of fun and we saw lots of small kids really enjoying it too. There are 2 options for this ride. One that is open air and one that is completely closed in. We only went on the open air one. 7 I forget the name of this one but you can only go on it if you have at least 3 people. So we weren't able to go on this one. It's a pretty high up slide that you go down on a huge inner tube. It looked fun. You also don't have to carry the tube up the stairs b/c they have a conveyer belt that takes it up for you (this conveyer is on this ride ONLY).
WAVE POOL: Not too much to say about this since it's pretty self explanatory but it was fun. Next to the wave pool they have a kiddie area that looked fun for the kids. Behind that were bumper cars.
LAZY RIVER: You can rent tubes for $5 each and use them in the lazy river and wave pool. They are not necessary, however. We did not rent the tubes and were just fine floating down the river and riding the waves in the pool.
ACTIVITIES: They were having a water balloon toss game over near the Wave Pool and they also had an activities board posted to show other things they would be doing throughout the day.
SWIM WITH THE DOLPHINS: We did not do this; however you can pay extra if you'd like to swim with the dolphins. They do have an observation area where you can watch others participating. It looked like a lot of fun!!
Overall, we really had a great time. I've been to much bigger water parks in the past with numerous slides. But it wasn't a problem to me that the Cancun Wet 'n Wild was on a smaller scale. It was a fun relaxing day. It was not that crowded either so you really have no wait to get on any of the slides. There are several loungers throughout the park you can sit on (the majority are by the Wave Pool but there are several around the lazy river). You can find ones in the shade or the sun.
I would really recommend this place if you are looking to have a fun day!!!
Oh, we were at the park for about 4 hours and that was about enough for us (it was very hot this day). So we opted to leave before our tour transportation came back for us. It is no problem as you can pick up the city bus right next to the parking lot in Wet 'n Wild. So remember this tip that you can take the city bus if needed.
Have fun!
