My partner and I stayed at this resort for a 1 week vacation. We knew it was a 2-3 star when we booked it so that is what we expected. However, we were pleasantly surprised!

The rooms were average but they were clean.

The food was okay. Breakfast was great and lunch and dinner were fine, but by the fourth day we were tired of the buffet. The wait staff, especially Armando, were outstanding. They were always pleasant, constantly clearing tables, serving coffee and tea and getting us drinks, etc. However, we did see several examples of rude behavior toward the staff by guests, which was totally uncalled for. Just a bit of patience and a smile really won't kill you! We only experienced waits for the evening meal and the wait was maybe 10 minutes.

The drinks were great - not watery or weak as other people have complained about and the bar staff were great. We used the bar by the children's pool a lot and the service was great.

The actual location of the place was great. It was very easy to get into Cancun using the bus and we were close to departure locations for day trips, etc. The grounds were very well maintained and the beach was beautiful - not rocky and cramped like I heard some of the other people from the higher end resorts complaining about.

We definintely enjoyed our stay here and can't wait to go back next year.

Arrived at Dos Playas with my friends of which we were greeted by the reception staff shouting constantly my friends' surname in quite an annoying manor.
We had a bellboy take our luggage to our room, Which was comical in itself as it took him about 20 swipes to get our keycard to work on the door, It would take us 20-30 attempts each time to get into the door each day/night! Then for some unknown reason about 10 days into the holiday the card stopped working all together.

Got into the room and it was spacious with a balcony and a decent sized shower.
Towels were collected every day and replaced with clean ones, If you left the dirty ones on the floor. One gripe I did have was that their was no "Do Not Disturb" signs about and that one morning we had a maid knocking on the door at 8am!! Not welcome after a fairly heavy night.

The Food - Where do I start, A lot of people have slated it already and I'd agree with them. But to be fair the breakfast was fairly decent in terms of choice and no-one can go wrong with boxes of cereal!! The Lunch was woeful at best, Each day my friends described it as a "dissapointment" and whatever got left over from Lunch was then handed over to the Snack Bar where they seemed to serve meat free burgers and hot dogs. I tried the Burgers and they had next to no taste and certainly minimal meat in them.
My worst experience was the Saturday Night Themed Night (Grill) where I requested Steak, Pork and Chicken. The Chicken was PINK and the Pork wouldnt cut and when I eventually cut it, It was Red Raw, awful!

The Drinks were ok, Had to que forever to get one on a night and the bar would promptly shut at 11. The bar was just too small and manned by only one person who seemed to struggle, but fair play to him he always had a smile on his face

In terms of location the hotel is excellent, 5mins bus journey from the centre costing 7.5 pesos (30p).

The Entertainment was also great and many thanks to Karen for making it that way! She was a very welcoming person and you could see she enjoyed her job too. Not so sure about the other guy (Marco) his constant horse noises were funny at first, But very annoying after that!

The Pool was good, The sun loungers were very limited meaning getting up early to grab one. Otherwise lay on your beach towel. I also played Tennis on the courts and blistered my hand quite badly as the full grip of the racket was down to the wood, pretty nasty.

If your after a budget hotel, This is the one. I'm dissapointed as I paid a fair bit to stay here and could have gone 5* in Majorca or Ibiza for a very simiarl price. If I was to go back to Cancun again, I'd glady spend extra and go to one of the Spas or the Oasis Palm.

Me and my partner went here last year as a treat. We had just moved into our first house and needed a special break. Cancun itself was lovely. The beach's were clean, the sea crystal clear, the hotel, well that was shocking!
We spent two miserable weeks here. After the first day we wanted to move but we decided on giving it a chance. I think in two weeks the food was edible, not nice, for probably two days of our entire trip! We spent an absolute fortune on food outside of the hotel. This was especially a pain as there isnt that much choice to eat out as the hotels are all-inclusive! Thank god there were options out there else i would have been deathly skinny by the time we left!
We met quite a few nice people there. Like us they were in their early twenties and looking for a good time! They too could not stomach the food and spent a fortune on eating out. Most days you would have left overs! They would serve things like bolegnese for breakfast! Last nights bolegnese i may add! The reason they can survive being cheap is by cutting corners and not letting any food go to waste! They even give you funny looks if you dont eat everything on your plate! Thats because they cant serve that to you again!
We were lucky with our room as it was very spacious and had a balcony. Many didnt have alot of space or they didnt have any balcony. I cant count the number of people that had to move rooms for a variety of reasons. One group of girls moved four times before they finally gave up trying to move!
The enterainment is reasonable during the day but at night its absolutely dead. They turn the lights out and the bar closes at about 11 sometimes earlier! Even when the bar is open there is no music or entertainment. If you like quiet evenings and early nights then come to Dos Playas! We spent most of the time in our room watching TV for something to do!
I understand it is a budget hotel and if your easily pleased and want to come to the clubs every night then this may be your kind of hotel. If having a relaxing break with nice food and light entertainment is your cup of tea then please stay away! We wish we had listened to the reviews and paid the extra to stay in a nice hotel. Trust me we spent more in the long run staying here and some of the hotels in cancun are beautiful!

Just come back fm Spring Break 09 we the lads, we had a great 2 weeks over there, room was fine, cleaners were very good, hotel grounds are decent, its on the beach so we were very happy.
Food was terrible tho, we ate out most of the time, waiters were crap, very slow, we had to que up for dinner all the time and sometimes we had to wait for plates and cutlery.
Bar is tiny but we were out most of the time, but in the day there is another bar which was fine.
Entertainers were very good, they really look after everyone and they organise nights out to all the good bars with free drinks every night. The main entertainer was a girl called Karen and she was fantastic with all the guests.
This is a hotel for lads n girls especially during spring break and the summer, if we ever go back to cancun I will defo book a more expensive hotel like the grande real cancun, my mates stayed there and it was amazing!

I just love the place. This was my second time to the dos playas. They have cleaned the place up a bit since my last visit 3 years ago. This is not a big fancy resort. Its asmall personal place.I think there is only 103 rooms.Within the first day you know every one there and every one knows you .You can always find a friend to do something with.We meet some of the best peaple i have ever meet on a trip.I want to give a shout out to Bob,Chopper, Gar,Mikey,Grason,Travis and Stacey. What a bunch of great fun loven peaple.
Ok as i said before this is a small place on on a great beach without the big waves you get on the easterly side on the island so you can actualy get in the water without getting plowed over by the waves. The rooms are small but do the job.If you arent happy with the room you get just ask nicely and maybe give the guys at the desk $5 and they will be happy to take care of you .Just be NICE to them they are good peaple. The grounds are keeped very nice and clean. The drinks are fowing all day after 10 am.The food is not to bad other than there is a line from time to time. But you can also go next door to the sister resort and use there facilitys also.If you want to have a large selection of food and bars then dont stay here .This is the place to go to meet great peaple relax and have fun.
