Arrived at Dos Playas with my friends of which we were greeted by the reception staff shouting constantly my friends' surname in quite an annoying manor.
We had a bellboy take our luggage to our room, Which was comical in itself as it took him about 20 swipes to get our keycard to work on the door, It would take us 20-30 attempts each time to get into the door each day/night! Then for some unknown reason about 10 days into the holiday the card stopped working all together.
Got into the room and it was spacious with a balcony and a decent sized shower.
Towels were collected every day and replaced with clean ones, If you left the dirty ones on the floor. One gripe I did have was that their was no "Do Not Disturb" signs about and that one morning we had a maid knocking on the door at 8am!! Not welcome after a fairly heavy night.
The Food - Where do I start, A lot of people have slated it already and I'd agree with them. But to be fair the breakfast was fairly decent in terms of choice and no-one can go wrong with boxes of cereal!! The Lunch was woeful at best, Each day my friends described it as a "dissapointment" and whatever got left over from Lunch was then handed over to the Snack Bar where they seemed to serve meat free burgers and hot dogs. I tried the Burgers and they had next to no taste and certainly minimal meat in them.
My worst experience was the Saturday Night Themed Night (Grill) where I requested Steak, Pork and Chicken. The Chicken was PINK and the Pork wouldnt cut and when I eventually cut it, It was Red Raw, awful!
The Drinks were ok, Had to que forever to get one on a night and the bar would promptly shut at 11. The bar was just too small and manned by only one person who seemed to struggle, but fair play to him he always had a smile on his face
In terms of location the hotel is excellent, 5mins bus journey from the centre costing 7.5 pesos (30p).
The Entertainment was also great and many thanks to Karen for making it that way! She was a very welcoming person and you could see she enjoyed her job too. Not so sure about the other guy (Marco) his constant horse noises were funny at first, But very annoying after that!
The Pool was good, The sun loungers were very limited meaning getting up early to grab one. Otherwise lay on your beach towel. I also played Tennis on the courts and blistered my hand quite badly as the full grip of the racket was down to the wood, pretty nasty.
If your after a budget hotel, This is the one. I'm dissapointed as I paid a fair bit to stay here and could have gone 5* in Majorca or Ibiza for a very simiarl price. If I was to go back to Cancun again, I'd glady spend extra and go to one of the Spas or the Oasis Palm.
