ok where do I start, several words you will need to know in Cancun and indeed Dos Playas . . . . "tips, tips and more tips" if you are taking £500 spending money then double it to get reasonable service anywhere, I have been in several resorts around the world and this is by far the worst!! even in the hotel the really ignorant and nasty on occasions evening bar man will treat you considerably worse if you do not deposit money in his tip bowl which is waved in your face on several occasions, pritty much everyone got this treatment except if you are spanish/mexican.
The hotel is extremely basic, I would say 2 star at a push, I near died when pulling up after seeing the others available and believe me I aint posh in any way!! the reception is very tired, however, found the staff to be helpful, the room has a dodgy air conditioner that looks like its had its last day, did work throughout the 2 weeks tho.
The room was cleaned every day, however, we did go just after the swine flu restrictions were lifted so it was very very quite, the beds were reasonably comfortable and we did get a balcony which did not seem to have chairs/tables in any rooms???
There was nothing stolen as we had read the other reviews and put everything in reception, the door looks like it could easily be opened with a nudge!! if you get a room with a deposit box you will be charged for using it.
The grounds are kept tidy and the pool is cleaned every day, however, if it was busy there is very little space, although we did spend every day on the beach which was a stone throw from the pool.
The Thai restraunt was not opened so cannot comment, the food was basic but I eat anything so enjoyed it, the 2 weeks had the same food with little alterations, fish, chicken and pork, there is nothing to control the flies but suppose you need to expect this overseas.
Once again a tip every so often is the only way to get good service, otherwise you will get ignored.
The snacks thoughout the day consist of burgers and hotdogs when on, there was nothing else the 2 weeks we were there.
Now for the extremely bad . . . the evening bar man is extremely ignorant and will not hesitate ignoring you on several occasions, other people in the hotel had agressive situations with him and reception did not want to know, we got told on several occasions that our drinks were for girls, when asking for a cup of tea you were told to get it yourself and that snacks were unavailable despite offering them to pritty females standing next to you!!
If you want all inclusive, forget this hotel, the bar closes at 11pm, although the evening bar man will make sure its closed 15 minutes before and should you ask for a drink at this time you will have the tip jar waived at you and comments made in mexican.

In a nut shell, if you paid £500/£600 for 2 weeks then this hotel is fine, any more than that you will wish you shopped around

Cancun?? the pre arranged nights out through freddie (entertainments) are ideal as he normally arranges transport, however, he will pick the clubs he is getting paid to recommend.
Coco Bongos - amazing night and great service, although make sure you get a table
Bulldogs - staff will demand tips if not served by the waiter then refuse to serve you if you do not!!
out and about - loads and loads of touts getting you into shops/clubs and guess what?? yeah tips tips and moe tips!!!!

I've been to Dos Playas six times already. Last time from April 2nd to 9th everything was perfect, as usual. It bothers me, though, that many people mentioned, that their stuff got stolen. It has never happened to me and my husband! I never use the safe! I have cameras, camcorders, passports-even the credit card laying around the room. Nothing, abolutly nothing has ever disappeared from my room.
Sometimes you have to watch other tourists as some of them tend to steal others belongings.Just be on guard!
Soon I will be going there again, as it's the perfect location and Playa Tortugas is the best for swimming (as the shore is protected by Isla Mujeres).
All of you, who will be going there, have a good time and use common sense.

Went 24th March 09 for 2 weeks. We were looking for a budget base, somewhere to rest our sore heads from the night before and we certainly found it here!

This hotel is not really suitable for honeymooners or people wanting to get away from it all in a plush 5* hotel..this really is basic, budget perfect for the 18-30 scene who like to party and who are pretty laid back with what they get / or the slightly older generations who will use it purely as a base to go sight-seeing etc (therefore have won't have high expectations and won't really stay in it much)

Ok so it's not the best looking hotel on the strip, reception rather tired looking (and receptionist pretty rude!) but ignoring its' flaws this is a great place..only if you do some bargain hunting and get it at the right price though-we got ours for £650 all inc for 2 weeks and we spoke to some people there who paid £800 for 1 week!..it certainly pays to shop around! Plus we spoke to some guys from a hotel down the road (can't remember the name..big posh blue and white one..about 2 or 3 hotels down) and they said their hotel was dead pretty much all the time..this one defo wasn't quiet or boring!

This is defo a singles place but we met all sorts of brill people, married, old and young..and made tons of new mates (some who i'm seeing this weekend!) the people are one of the best bits about it here!

Nightlife is absolutely mental!!!! I'm not a party person yet went out every single night without fail! The hotel sort out nights out every night, you pay a fixed price (very cheap considering what you get for it) and get a taxi there, own table (the clubs can get very busy!) alcohol on tap by your own waiter..we couldn't ask for more! I hated it coming back to england..having to actually queue up at the bar to get a drink was horrible after going out with the dos playas lot! And I absolutely, totally 150% recommend Coco Bongo too..so aweseome it's untrue! Basic is a good night out too, has a vibrating dance floor and Dady O's has a gorgeous rooftop terrace which is open til 9 in the morning! You do have to get your own way back but the buses are very regular and are 24hr costing about 7.50 pesos each (about 30p!) or get a taxi - haggle with the taxi men we did get it for like 60 pesos when others paid 150..say you only have 60 left and they will take you..start low..trust me!

Rooms were ok, like i say a good base. We didn't have a balcony but it didn't really bother us. Beds were not as hard as people make out..i'm a fussy sleepy yet i slept well (might have had something to do with the alcohol in me though lol) Towels changed often and room was spotless every single day (the maids did an awesome job (even if they did steal *see below*)..the state our room most days was just shocking!) Our T.v didn't work but who cares..we didn't go on hol to watch tv! Had many issues with our room card key..i think every time the maids went in with theirs it voided ours but a quick trip to reception was all that was needed (even if we did go down at least once everyday!)

Breakfast was amazing! Make the most of it if you can! Lunch and dinner - well like i say this hotel does good seeing as it's very low budget..food was very edible and somethings were quite tasty! Try the thai restaurant too if you can..that was a nice change!

Beach = amazing! Right on your doorstep! Sunrise is amazing! Pool area nice and clean, spacious with lots of sunbeds. For all you guys with a hangover there's a pool bar that serves burgers, chips, chicken, you name it..pure hangover food throughout the day..brilliant! Also drinks are worth it..try the strawberry daiquiris..they're so addictive (watch out they stain your clothes and lips red!!!!)

Entertainment team fantastic..especially Karen and horse man! They make the most of what they've got and if you don't want to take part they don't hassle..is very laid back and you can do as much or as little as you want.

Location is the best!!! Quick bus ride into main party area cancun (we didn't visit downtown cancun but heard it was very nice..good if you want authentic mexican!), next to a couple of supermarkets..great for early morning munch on crisps and god knows what else!..right next to pier for party ferries and trips to the dolphins (which we went on and was absolutely mind blowing..very recommended!..go see the guy down on the beach in his shack for good prices!)

I think that pretty much covers everything..although..

WORD OF WARNING!!!!!!!! look after your belongings at all times STUFF DOES GET STOLEN!! Me and my mate had our digital camera stolen 2 days before we left..every picture gone! Also i had my brand new ipod stolen, and our mates had cash, cameras and socks (yes socks!) stolen..use the safe in reception..cram as much as you can in there!!!!!!

Like i say even with its' flaws i'd recommend this place to all and sundry..and we cannot wait to go back next March!!!!!! LOVED IT!!!!!!

"Not worth the hassle! We checked in and got into our room which was awful. Really small and really realy hard beds. by the 4th night there my back was in so much pain. Our room couldnt lock and it took two days for it to finally get fixed. We tried to change rooms a few times but the staff was very unhelpful, even when trying to change the lock!

The main problem with the hotel is the chance of getting things stolen from our room! met 6 people who had cash, cameras and other valuables stolen from a safe in the room. It wasnt broken into which led them to believe it was an inside job! heard a few other cases which made us worry about our rooms therefore we took our valuables with us wherever we went which is also a risk!

Food was OK at best for a few days but a lot of the days it was really poor!

There are many other hotels in cancun nicer and regret not paying that little bit extra for a comfort."

Well where do i start ....I stayed at the Dos Playas in Apr 2008 4 2 weeks with 3 of my friends. Personally i would never stay here again even if you paid me.
When we first arrived didnt think it was to bad...i was wrong.
1st impressions of room seemed nice and was clean so couldnt really complain...although think through out the 2 weeks it was cleaned about 4 times and they never gave us enough towels.
Later on we also realised that the balcony door did not lock and there was a couple lights in the room that didnt work. we also kept having problems with our door key as it would either never lock or never open are door..this meant everytime it would happen someone would have to go down to the reception for them to re programme it..(we later found out that if the key didnt work it meant someone had been in the room with the master key which was rather strange)
Staff on the hole where miserable and not very helpful..Although i will say Marco (the entertainment guy) was brillant!!
Food was discusting huge dissapointment after the 1st day of eating there i had a really bad belly (both ends) for 3 days which meant i was very reluctent to eat much from there at all..I mainly stuck to the omelletes for breakfast as they were made fresh infront of you.

Half way through the holiday i then had my mobile phone and digital camera stolen from out of my room.("why didnt u put it in the safe i hear you say") Well the saftey deposit box's are the size of a brick down in reception and they only give you one..so what with there being 4 of us we could only fit our passports travel documents and money in there. There was no sign of forced entry so it meant it had to be someone with a key..when i went down to reception to tell them what had happend they were not very helpful at all. It was a kinda of its not our problem attitude which was so frustrating. This then made all of us extremely scared specially because on the same night one of the security guards followed my friend to our room and wouldnt go away from outside it. The next day we reported it to the police who didnt speak much english at all. luckily my friend spoke a bit of spainish so was able to say what happend.

Overall i couldnt wait to get home..the weather and the beach were lovely couldnt ask for nicer but this was probably the best thing about the holiday and that is saying alot for me as im not the fussy type. Yes you do get what you pay for but this was just something else...i have been to a few low budget places and never ever experianced what i did here.
