My mom and I recently returned from a short trip to Cancun (11/17/04-11/20/04) and had a wonderful stay at LeMeridien. The service was excellent, the room was very nice, and the bathrooms large (which is a plus for me). I have to agree with another reviewer in that I was surprised to have a nominal charge for coffee that I made in the room. Other than that, I have no complaints. Chairs by the pool and on the beach were plentiful, and we walked to several good restaurants close to the hotel. I thought the gym was excellent and used it every day of my stay! Both my mom and I also obtained services at the Spa del Mar, and couldn't have been more pleased. It does not have the glitsy, glamourous lobby and size of the Ritz and the JW Marriott that are near by, but is much more intimate. So if you're looking for a smaller property with all of the luxury amenities, LeMeridien is it. I will definitely return there when I visit Cancun next year.

Le Meridien offers a lovely, smaller property just far enough away from the insanity of the tourist strip in Cancun. When we arrived, we were greeted with fresh juice and cool towels. We were escorted to our room, which was lovely. It was extremely clean and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the separate shower and tub. We opted for the deluxe room with a terrace. It was nice with a view of the infinity pools and Caribbean. I have to say that even though breakfast is expensive in the dining room, it is top notch. Treat yourself at least one day of your stay. If you eat a lot at breakfast, opt for a plan where the breakfast buffet is included. It looked great! I ordered a la carte -- you must try the French toast -- it was fantastic. The juice is fresh squeezed, and the coffee is so rich and delicious it tastes like chocolate -- YUMMM! The service by the pool was quite good, and they have an AquaWorld representative there who can help to arrange diving, snorkeling, parasailing, etc. We dove with the AquaWorld team 4 times, and they are fantastic. They always send a guide with you, check the equipment carefully, inform you of the planned route and environment, etc. They were first rate. Overall, Le Meridien seems to be one of the nicest hotels in the area. We liked the smaller, more intimate atmosphere. The staff gets to know your names and are always there to help with anything you need. Definitely try out La Distilleria. If you head down after 7pm, they have a mariachi band. Also, consider using taxis -- though they are expensive, you will likely spend less than the $60/day it costs to rent a car. We usually rent cars on our trips, but decided not to this time. The taxis were dependable and readily available. Expect to pay $1 extra ($10 pesos) for the ride back to the hotel -- I think Le Meridien has negotiated rates when leaving from the hotel. The spa at the hotel is first class. They have some of the most exceptional facilities I have ever seen. They are very accommodating with scheduling, and the massages are wonderful. Make sure to schedule at least one treatment. Leave yourself extra time to use the steam room, hot tub, and cold plunge pool in the locker room! Enjoy your stay -- we definitely did.

Planning a trip for myself and my parents who were visiting from the UK, selected the hotel via the Trip Advisor comments (v.useful site!) and was not disappointed. Stayed for 7 nights from Oct 9th and found the hotel and staff to be great! Reception and Concierge staff polite and helpful; full buffet breakfast superb value for money; (only)restaurant served high quality food, comparable to good restaurants in Paris; pools - all of them - beautifully designed, lots of sun beds, towels can be swapped for dryones whenever required; adjacent beach, glorious; pool staff very attentive; rooms and bathrooms great (join their "Moments" club on line and then ask for an upgrade on arrival). A few grumbles - ridiculous additional charges for spa ($10 per day even if you don't want to use it) and $2.75 for every bag of coffee used in the room (take your own instead, probably tastes better too - regular machine so use either bags or coffee filter plus coffee). Much cosier hotel than the Ritz two doors up and much better price - find a price via Internet and then call the hotel direct to negotiate!!! (this tends to work wherever you are going). Compared to other hotels visited whilst in Cancun, should I go back, would definitely stay in the Meridien again! Note: this is NOT an American hotel so European customs tend to prevail - "Please" and "Thank you" will pay dividends for guests ....

My wife and I just return from our trip to Cancun and our stay at the Le Meridien Resort and Spa. It was a get away for my 40th Birthday and was a very nice place to relax. The reviews were fairly accurate in that it is a small, luxury hotel that is very comfortable in a beautiful setting.

The strongest asset of the hotel is the spa and athletic club. The gym is well above average and the spa is top notch. We had a package through our travel agent that gave us unlimited access to the gym, locker room and a discount on spa services. Well worth it since I believe the rates are high.

The pools are very nice. Two are kept very cool, however. So if you want to get a warm swim you have to head down to the ocean. Beach chairs, at least in November, were not overly crowded and generally available. Food by the pool is good and drinks great.

As with everything in Cancun, unless you have an all inclusive deal with your hotel, it is expensive. The food, especially at Le Meridien, is costly, but it is good. The breakfast is terrific, but I would recommend staying away from the buffet ($25 usd), and go with the American Breakfast from the menu. The American gives you partial access to the buffet, plenty of food and without having to wade through the line.

Check in and check out was easy, although don't ask for an upgrade to a suite as they wanted to charge us an extra $225 per night for a suite overlooking the lagoon.

The rooms are nice, but not large. Bathrooms are big and comfortable. We had the room with a small balcony. Try to get a room that is on the South side of the hotel (better sun and view of pool). Only the rooms on the East end of the hotel have a decent view of the ocean. Beacuse of this, I would call most rooms partial "ocean view".

My only real complaint about the Le Meridien is that they want to charge you for everything. Nothing comes with your room... no newspaper and no coffee in the lobby. Even the coffee for your in room coffee maker had a fee attached to it.

The upside of the property is that it is beautiful, well maintained and very well staffed. The staff was always friendly, helpful, and available. The concierge was excellent, giving us very good recommendations on restaurants and prompt reservations when necessary. All-in-all it was a great place to spend time as a couple and would recommend to anyone who wants a smaller, quiet resort that has an excellent spa and willing to pay the price for the extras.

We just returned from one of the worst Hotels stays we have ever experience-and that was the Meridien,in Cancun-I do not recomend you pay for services at their Spa unless you ask about all charges first-Second when you check in ask if their are any extra discounts for Hotel services-I bought a 2850 pesos package for the Spa,and only after I paid for it did I discover for the month of Nov. the Hotel at time of check in was offering a 20% discount on treatments over 1 hour-I question the guy at the spa,and was told he couldn't give it to me I would have to go to the desk-long story short I only received 10% off-They also added a 150pesos charge for towles-All I was told findly my the manager of the Spa,was that next week, they would be training their staff--The Hotel is nice but they will nickle and dime you to death-Cable did not work-Was woken at 10:15p.m.the first night we add been travling all day and they wanted to make down the bed-This marked the 3rd trip to Cancun this year -Never had a bad experience ever at the the Ritz and will go back to it in Mar.If you stay at the Meridien do expect a well below service level-Returned 11-11-04
