We had a wonderful time at the Le Meridien! We are what some people would call "hotel snobs" and we truly had nothing to complain about at this hotel. First of all, the rate was fantastic. I am not sure if it was because of the Swine Flu scare or it being the off season, but we got a great deal off the Starwood website. When looking into hotels, the Le Meridien was actually significantly cheaper than the Westin Cancun resort and spa and I think it is probably a nicer hotel and in a better location.
The hotel was great for the low key, relaxing experience we were looking for. It is NOT a spring break type of hotel. Sure, you can stay here and then take the bus down to the bars but don't expect a lively night scene at the hotel. This was perfect for us. We saw mostly couples, families and groups of friends. Nothing too crazy going on! If you want the craziness it is so cheap and easy to take the bus down to all of the bars and restaurants in the hotel zone.
The room was very nice. We had a king oceanview with a gorgeous view of the pools and ocean. The bathroom was awesome- separate shower and tub. No, the beds are not heavenly beds but we had no trouble sleeping in them! The balcony was great also.
The pools are gorgeous and we had no problems finding chairs and umbrellas. We have stayed at other resorts in Mexico where it is nearly impossible to sit in the shade but we had no trouble here. The pool attendants are friendly and helpful- they bring towels down for you, set up your chair, open your umbrella, etc. In fact, all of the staff at the hotel is extremely helpful and friendly. You really are treated like royalty. The beach was beautiful. Nice, soft sand and the water is that beautiful torquoise color. The waves are fun and not that rough though I am not sure if our toddler would have been able to go into the water if we brought him with us...
The food at the hotel was SO reasonably priced. We had breakfast in the restaurant most days (we didn't do the buffet b/c we didn't eat that much) and lunch by the pool. Pool service was great. Even the drinks weren't overpriced. The food and drinks at this resort were significantly cheaper than many other places we have visited. Our last morning there we got breakfast in our room. They brought the food in and set it up on a table for us right near our balcony so we could look out at the ocean while we are, and the whole meal (we got eggs, coffee, juice, fruit, bread, etc) was only 35 bucks! For dinner most nights we took the bus to various restaurants in the hotel zone. Definitely try out Thai (that is the name of the restaurant) for a truly memorable dinner experience!
We had a heavenly time at the Le Meridien and would definitely come back. We would like to plan a family trip there next year. They do have a kids club that looked like a lot of fun and we noticed that they have a kids menu at the restaurant as well, which is nice. All in all, we had a fantastic experience in Cancun and at the Le Meridien!
