Beautiful, clean hotel. Cool pool. Very helpful front desk. We booked a cheaper standard room facing the lagoon because we went exploring every day: Chichen Itza, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, downtown Cancun, etc. Our room was plenty large, with lots of windows and light, and a big patio with chairs and a hot tub. If you are doing the “all inclusive” or plan on spending a lot of time at the hotel, I would recommend getting a more expensive room facing the sea. But for day trippers like us, the cheaper room was fine. There is enough beach to walk on, and we swam in the sea, even though a red flag was posted every day. There is a nice reasonably priced Bistro at the front of the hotel with good American breakfasts and coffee, and you can sit outside if you want. You set your air conditioner with a remote control, and ours worked well. There is plenty of hot water -- you just have to leave it on for 30 seconds to get it. The sister hotel, Avalon Reef on Isla Mujeres, has a big beach you can use for free, along with towel service, chairs and umbrellas. Tips: convert your dollars to pesos before you go, since you will get a better price in pesos. Also, the Cancun bus system is cheap, efficient, and easy to learn.
