Avalon Baccara is a great place to stay! The staff could not of been nicer. The only thing I would change would be to have an Ocean side room. We stayed in 408, which was very nice, but an Ocean room would of been better. Going down to the beach was a lot of fun! We didn't want to leave. The worst part of the trip was the Taxi ride back to the airport. We can't wait to go back again.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A NICE HOLIDAY!! This is the first review I have even written and after nearly being on every continent in the world and staying in over 100 different hotels, hostels, and accomodation.... this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!! On arrival we were disappointed with our room but we stayed positive and thought "who cares... we will not be in our room much". It was dark and dingy and just unpleasant, although cheaper than the rest on the strip! So who cares. However it was the customer service that made this hotel unbearable. After complaining 4 times about the hot water and being told " it will be fixed", "it is not broken", and then finally "its mexican hot and you are just not used to it" (there is no such thing.... hot is hot, ice cold is ice cold), we still had no hot water. I found the staff unhelpful and it seemed they took gratification in our dissatisfaction. I could rave on about the disappointing customer service but simply " enjoy your holiday... don't stay here".

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The rooms and facilities are quite old, and there are major problems with lack of water pressure and hot water. However, we did get a room upgrade after we complained about the dank and dim first room that they showed us. At first the front desk person was belligerent, but he did upgrade us to a nicer room and we tipped him $20 for his troubles. The upgraded room was definitely nicer, with a view and an outdoor hot tub which didn't work (took about 3 hours to fill it up, probably had a leak, and the jets didn't work). The view was beautiful, though - nice pool area and view of the tiny beach that is in front of the hotel. This is a nice older hotel for the price (vs the other crazy ones on the strip) - an added plus is that you can use the Avalon Reef facilities at Isla Mujeres

We loved this small boutique hotel. We stayed in room 402. The king size bed filled the room with no place to sit other than the bed. Balcony(on lagoon side) was spacious with 2 chairs and a table. Bathroom was large with lots of storage. Shower had plenty of hot water but had to let it run for sometime to get that way. Staff were very helpful. Beach was non-existent. We walked down to the Melia and sat on their beach and swam there in the beautiful warm Caribbean. Pool at hotel is small but very nice. Drinks and snacks available were excellent. We were non-inclusive so ate at many restaurants on the strip. Not cheap though!! Bistro at hotel was nice for a small breakfast. We had a few meals at the Avalon Grand. Breakfast was 300 pesos (buffet) for the 2 of us. Only complaint from us is no internet at the Baccara. Must go to the Avalon Grand and I think it was about 50 pesos a day there. I have an Ipod touch so used that at Starbucks for free. Should be free at the hotel but it is not !! Oh yes, we found hotel very clean!! Beach towels and sheets are worn but clean. Our bathroom was very clean. To sum up, we loved it !!

Beautiful, clean hotel. Cool pool. Very helpful front desk. We booked a cheaper standard room facing the lagoon because we went exploring every day: Chichen Itza, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, downtown Cancun, etc. Our room was plenty large, with lots of windows and light, and a big patio with chairs and a hot tub. If you are doing the “all inclusive” or plan on spending a lot of time at the hotel, I would recommend getting a more expensive room facing the sea. But for day trippers like us, the cheaper room was fine. There is enough beach to walk on, and we swam in the sea, even though a red flag was posted every day. There is a nice reasonably priced Bistro at the front of the hotel with good American breakfasts and coffee, and you can sit outside if you want. You set your air conditioner with a remote control, and ours worked well. There is plenty of hot water -- you just have to leave it on for 30 seconds to get it. The sister hotel, Avalon Reef on Isla Mujeres, has a big beach you can use for free, along with towel service, chairs and umbrellas. Tips: convert your dollars to pesos before you go, since you will get a better price in pesos. Also, the Cancun bus system is cheap, efficient, and easy to learn.
