I stayed here for a month while attending Spanish language school in the downtown area. I chose this hotel because it is a Best Western and it was close to my school. Well, what a misstake. I think Best Western should reevaluate this hotel.

The service is pretty bad and they "nickel and dime" you for everything. The air conditioner worked some of the time, and other times it just released warm air. When I requested a key for the safety deposit box in my room, they wanted a $100 deposit, if u can believe that. I constantly had ants in my room and hotel didn't seem to care.

Most of the people that stay here are not tourists. The hotel is across the street from the main bus station, which is the only reason someone would stay here.

In all fairness, I must say the restaurant wasn't bad. The food was good and the service good also. Other than that, I would recommend staying elsewhere.

I stayed at the Plaza Caribe, Cancun (city) last week. As other reviewers stated, the grounds are nice (gardens, trees, birds, spacious) and also a nice surprise since this hotel appears to be on a crowded block opposite the main bus station. .. you just don't expect that they will have any grounds! They have a pool and the restaurant is certainly tolerable. The rooms are small (I looked at a few), our windows didn't open, the hair dryer was broken, not enough toilet paper, lights burned out and no hot water. The air conditioning worked but the place was very dank....smelled like the whole place was wet and hadn't dried out for years/poor air circulation. I found the front desk staff very helpful and polite but I believe you'd have a problem there if you didn't speak some Spanish. The staff had very little English between them. This place USED TO BE a Best Western. I doubt that they could care less about bad reviews because their location is great. I also noticed a fair number of Mexican business travellers staying there. I spotted it on a previous trip and decided it would be a good place to stay if you were catching an early bus the next day but I will be looking around for some place else for the next bus trip..I can walk three or four blocks!

Apart from being near to the bus station, this 4 star hotel did not deserve its rating (or price). Most 1 star hotels would have been ashamed by the state of the room (dirty sheets, wet towels, poorly cleaned, insects). The cold shower and lack of anyone on site to complain to would make any sane person choose to pay for the taxi ride to a better hotel. This was the worst hotel I stayed in in Mexico.

We stayed at the BW Plaza Caribe overnight since we were scheduled to take the bus to Chetumal early next morning. I assumed that since it was a Best Western it would meet certain standards. Not so.
Pros: proximity to the bus station, inexpensive, nice receptionist. The pool area looked nice and the grounds were pleasant.
Cons: The room was dingy, the toilet did not work, room was in disrepair. The continental breakfast was marginal, juice, coffee and two pieces of toast. I'm sure there are other hotels in the vicinity that would be a better value for the money.
